Nissa nods at the tall shrew but does not pause in the doorway, "We come seeking shrew and mice from down mountain," she says, marching up to the table mice. "One of you is Nodder?" She pulls her hood down, revealing scars and tattered ear, then reaches in and twitches the napkin aside, daring them to stop her.
The little shrew nearest you throws herself over the covered object and shoots a glare in your direction. A stout, capable-looking mouse on the far side of the table looks on without expression, saying, "Aye, that would be me- Yosef Nodder. And no need for introductions from you, Ranger. What business is it of yours whence we hail?" A look of sudden hope cross his bluff face. "You find my boy?" he asks keenly.
Craven, arms also folded behind his back, but with the added effect of a cape, which makes him cooler than the shrew, eyes it up, “Yess... Storms, predators, malcontents, things that go bang, crack, thrum in the night. We like shelter from such things, yup yup.”
The lean innkeeper looks round with his long shrew nose raised in the air. It hits you all simultaneously- he's blind. "...Yes, yes indeed. That's an... interesting accent you have, young master. Tell me, from what corner of Loamholt have you traveled to Skygate?"
Mazer grabs a wooden rod and raps it loudly on the desk, right next to the sleeping novice's head. "Atten-TION!" he barks in his captain's voice, displeased. "On your feet soldier!"
The little tenderpaw flies backward in a blizzard of loose paper, her helmet skittering across the stone floor. She bounds up and salutes without thinking, shouting, "Weren't sleepin', Major! Weren't sleeping'! Only restin' my eyes for to better review these-" she finally notices that it's Mazer standing in front of her. "Who in the name of the King's fuzzy red acorns are you?"
The mouse eventually introduces herself as Cuff. She is apprenticed to Kordo the Mace, an old legend among the guard (and several steps above Mazer in rank). "Th-the light on Firewatch, yeh say? Shine my wicker, Cap'n, but that's a frightful thin', idn't it? Pardon my askin', but what are yeh headin' up there for? Don't yeh know there's monsters about??"

Nissa gives the little shrew a withering stare. To Yosef, "We were not told of your boy when we were sent by the Guard. Our concern is for the light on Firewatch, and your safety should our paths coincide. Now," she turned to the shrew. "You will allow me to see what you are keeping hidden, citizen," she says, "And you will tell us why you are keeping it hidden."
She hasn't thrown around this much authority in forever. If ever. Where's Mazer, she is wondering.

Eli will try to calm the party down, but keeps vigilant, eyes peering around for any sudden movements.
"Please, we are here to help. The mouse guard has charged us with seeking the same thing you were, and we wish to know what you have discovered. We saw tracks of members of your party leading in a different direction earlier. Was that your son? Do you know why they split off?

"We know about the monsters, but the guard must respond,"answers Mazer in a firm voice. "What kind of monsters have you seen here? I need a full report. What have you seen, when did it start?"
In response to Nissa's threat, the little shrew sticks out her tongue, grabs the object under the cloth, and bolts out of the common room and into the darkening evening. (Nissa, mark experience! Also, decide whether to pursue her)

Yosef is silent for a moment. He looks pensive as he takes a small tin of tabac from his pocket and places a dark leafy pinch in his cheek. "There's a dark business in that light. A storm's coming- and not just what's brewin' o'erhead." He spits. "Aye. My boy took off after a demon this morn' as we made near Enhara. A demon what looked like a dormouse tenderpaw, black as ink." He looks at you all with a shrewd eye. "Yeh wouldn't know what I'm jawin' bout, eh guardsmouses?"
The little tenderpaw's eyes alight with excitement. "What monsters?? Why, there are fierce bloody creatures from the mists of the past what've invaded our time! Ancient barbarians what ride massive stoats big as foxes! They's all folded o'er in pig iron from tips to ti-" The little mouse remembers whom she's addressing just in time. "Uhhh, they's well-armed, Cap'n. We first saw them up the Peak the night before the light appeared. Master engaged one o' the blighters all hisself, and we sent word ta the Keep straight away."
Her excitement ebbs and worry crosses her face. "Are yeh not here because of our message? We sent it AGES ago..."
Nissa will let the little shrew go, just watching her scurry off. "We met the shadow mouse as well," she admits. "What do you know of the green light?"

...And something curious happens. There's a flash of lightning outside, and in the wake of its glare, the air is tinged a familiar shade of green. You wait for the roll of thunder, but instead a ringing silence fills the room- as well as the entire the settlement of Enhara. Mazer, the silence rolls over Cuff and you at this moment, as well. The papers that had scattered when she fell continue to swirl in the air... But now they're swirling faster. One slices across your snout, cleanly clipping short a pair of whiskers and drawing a bright line of pain over your nose (0 harm). You hear a muffled shouting outside- but everything is muffled- almost as though you have cotton stuffed in your ears. Cuff opens her mouth to jabber wildly, but you can't make out what she's saying.
Back to the others at the trading outpost, a naptha lamp by the front door falls and bursts (still silently), spreading green-tinged flames across the floor!
Is there a cloak nearby to smother the fire with? Not one anyone is wearing? If so, Nissa will grab it and attempt to smother the fire before it grows too much and gets out of hand.

The lamp is destroyed, and still too hot to touch. It's the least of your worries, though: the green-tinged silence still suffuses the settlement. You hear muffled shouting outside...
Poking your head out the door, you see that the settlement is in a state of disarray. A nearby ladder has broken, causing the shrew atop it to tumble painfully to the ground. A gust of wind caused a flagline to snap, cutting a shallow line across an old mouse's face from ear to jaw. A half dozen other scenes of minor chaos are playing out, as well, and over everything is the green light and its curious silence.
