OoC: Sorry, my bad for missing the request for a short rest there. Darvin promises to do his best to keep any bad guys off of Gilbert and to heal him if he goes down, and we'll definitely plan on a short rest after the next fight (or if we don't encounter anyone for a bit and there's another good spot for one)?
Injured as he is, Gilbert inspects the door and finds no traps. Pushing it open the party continues to wade through the shallow water that has filled this section of the dungeon.
The flooded, rubble-strewn tunnels leading to and from this room narrow to a width of 2½ feet in places. Four rotting wooden beams rise from the murky water to brace the ceiling here. Rubble piled in the northwest corner contains nothing of interest.
To the north the passage continues.
Murky, foul-smelling water surrounds an open stone sarcophagus resting in the middle of this crypt, its stone lid lying broken in three pieces under the water north of it.
Although bloodied and bruised, the tiny verdan would quickly trudge through the water with his wand-like staff straight towards the sarcophagus. "OOhhh. I wonder what is in here... " He would add with a small smile that reveals his black blood covered teeth. He would then climb up and look into the stone coffin.
"Tymora preserve us. I'm sure that one of GIl's ancestors was a cat! He certainly has their curiosity and number of lives"Tibi mutters as he gets read for whatever is in the sarcophagus.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Gil would look closely into the goo.. even sticklming the end of his staff into the gross slurry trying to slot anything valuable or useful inside. "It is pretty gross over here.. but since it seems like a dead end.. we may as well investigate."
"Well that was unexpected! I suppose I can live in hope that one day he stop poking things but I may never be so lucky" Tibi mutters as the battle axe appears. He sheathes his rapiers and pulls out his light crossbow and loads it with a bolt before aiming (he'll shoot next round) at the battleaxe.
OoC: Is Darvin before Whistler? I'm seeing Gilbert with 2 HP, but is that before or after taking this damage? Also, is positioning such that it would be possible to shove the axe away from Gilbert?
(OOC: I don't think I was down to only 2hp. I think the DM applied the damage to my character. I think I was at something like 6 before so it would make sense)
Darvin rushes at the animated axe with his rapier drawn, and tries to make some progress in de-animating it, while creating some distance between it and his nearly dead wizard friend.
Attack: 10 Damage: 15
(If hits and the space allows, using Mobile Flourish, to do an extra 3 damage and push it 5 ft plus the d6 roll, preferably away from Gil, and follows to stay next to it. If positioning doesn't allow for pushing away from Gil he'll skip the flourish)
Gil would gasp as the axe slices through his body.. his black blood dripping into the dark goo in the sarcophagus. Clutching his wound, he would quickly misty step out of the room and 30ft down the hall. As the verdan disappears in a multicolored mist, he would reappear and quickly shoot a ray of frost towards the spectral weapon as his spectral bat helps to distract it before moving quickly around the corner and out of sight of the ghostly weapon.
Bonus action: Misty step action: ray of frost Attack: 23 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.
Gilbert is certain that his blast of cold air is well placed, and it indeed is, but it passes right through the ax leaving it unharmed. He then slips out of the immediate room and around the corner.
Tibi is up.

Gilbert looks inside the coffin. Exposure to the dampness has rotted the bones in the sarcophagus, reducing them to black sludge.
Gil would look closely into the goo.. even sticklming the end of his staff into the gross slurry trying to slot anything valuable or useful inside. "It is pretty gross over here.. but since it seems like a dead end.. we may as well investigate."
investigation 7
As Gilbert sticks the end of his staff into the sludge a ghostly battleaxe appears above the sarcophagus and attacks!

The spectral axe launches an attack against the one who poked around in the coffin and it swings at Gilbert!
Attack: 23 Damage: 4

Whistler pulls out his sword and slashes at the floating axe.

Both Whistler and Darvin swing at the battle axe but their weapons pass through it and it is unharmed.

OOC: what penalty should TIbi apply for an aimed shot that pins the battle axe’s haft to the wall
