As you crouch down and start your final approach, Burik steps on a loose rock, sending a miniature avalanche of pebbles and stones scurrying down the mountain slope. In the otherwise silent, crisp air, it's the only sound. You all freeze, looking up at the silhouettes. They're frozen as well, looking toward you but not making any moves. A minute goes by, and they turn back to the fire, eating and murmuring to one another. You take another step forward, and Brask fully trips, his armor clanging against the rocks as he slams against the ground.
This time all the figures immediately spring into action. You hear them grabbing metal weapons, and the silhouette of a large, hairy figure steps up onto a boulder, looking in your direction. It growls in your direction, "Whoever you are, you just made the last mistake you'll ever make." They start advancing toward you.

Burik will charge forward, moving to attack the biggest target (or the one that looks most like it could be the leader). He'll summon Spiritual Weapon behind it, while attacking with his hammer from the front.
Spiritual Weapon Attack: 8, Force Damage: 4. The weapon takes the form of a grim reaper, scythe and all.
Hammer Attack: 6, Bludgeoning Damage: 4 + 11 Necrotic Damage from Channel Divinity - Touch of Death.
(If he is charged first, he'll hammer attack, then touch of death if they're not dead, then spiritual weapon behind his attacker if they're still not dead. If out of range of melee Chill Touch instead which is +1 to attack and -2 damage from the hammer attack rolls and no touch of death)

Effort holds in a mental sigh; they really should have just charged in with fire and brimstone at this rate.
Effort Initiative: 7 Cadmael Initiative: 17
(I will wait to see the field before I post an action. Since Burik is already doing a melee attack and Cadmael is in front of him, Cadmael can help Burik attack, which will give him advantage on his Hammer attack roll.)
You all attempt to focus and ready your weapons, but they're seemingly on top of you instantly. Three of them are bigger, with hairy manes and broad chests. As the first of them reaches you, you can see it's another gnoll. Similar to the ones that came through the cultist portals in the depths beneath Lovilra, but this one is more crazed. It's canine mouth shows foamy, razor-sharp teeth, and you see a long necklace swinging from his neck. Fingers, teeth, ears. A collection from past victims, in various states of decay. It's truly grotesque. Under the necklace is some makeshift leather armor. It raises a shortsword as it growls at you.
As you all reel back, surprised by how quickly they were able to react, an arrow flies past your heads.
Attack: 10 Damage: 10
It narrowly misses the beast's head. "Shit!" Burdan shouts from behind you. The gnoll comes roaring forward, swinging his short sword down at Brask, and then biting at the minotaur as he gets back to his feet.

The second figure emerges, long robe swinging behind him, as he swings a scimitar down on Effort. "Non-believer!" Attack: 13 Damage: 4
As the cultist attacks, the largest of all the figures leaps over a boulder and lands in front of you all. It's another gnoll, bigger than any you've seen before. A long reddish brown mane runs down its head and back, with bits of piecemeal metal armor stained dark red from past battles. It snarls as it thrusts a glaive toward Burik. "Die, little dwarf!" It pounces off its muscular legs, snapping at Burik as well.
Glaive: Attack: 14 Damage: 12
Bite: Attack: 22 Damage: 5
It rears back its head, somehow laughing and growling at the same time. As its horrible voice fills the air, the first gnoll snaps its head toward the leader, foaming at the mouth. (Incite rampage) It swings its shortsword down at Brask again...
If I parsed the battle order correctly, Burik is currently attacking Cultist Boss Leader, while peon Cultist 1 is on Brask and peon Cultist 2 is on Effort, and peon Cultist 3 has yet to take a turn.
Therefore, Cadmael's reaction will remain the same for now :) He is using Flyby to get away of course
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Whoa, whoa, these aren't peon cultists! Well...one is. The others are all different classes of gnolls. :)
Cadmael can give Burik advantage. If Burik doesn't update with another roll by his turn, I'll have Cadmael give Brask advantage instead. Cool?
Turn order (sorry, should have posted this):Burdan > Gnoll Flesh Gnawer > Cutlist > Gnoll Pack Lord > Cadmael > Gnoll Hunter > Effort > Burik > Brask
-------------------
As everyone becomes engaged in battle, the final gnoll climbs back up on the boulder that the leader lept off of and pulls an arrow from his quiver. He fires it at Burdan and quickly reloads, shooting the second at the hulking form of Brask.
Attack at Burdan: Attack: 19 Damage: 8
Attack at Brask: Attack: 23 Damage: 7
Both arrows whiz by their targets and bounce off rocks behind them.
Effort, you're up! I guess great initiative doesn't matter if all your monsters roll terribly on attack rolls...
Before the cultist can raise his scimitar again, Effort Misty Steps herself to safety, at the maximum range (30ft) of her spell where there is some cover, such as a tree, yet still a clear line of sight to the combatants.
She then narrows her eyes and aims at the gnoll hunter with her Eldritch Blast: Attack: 8 Damage: 13
Burik brings his hammer around toward the gnoll pack lord while simultaneously summoning his spiritual weapon behind the beast. The ghastly form of a grim reaper appears, floating and swinging at the gnoll's back. It connects, sending him lurching forward, but he's quick to recover, and dodges the hammer blow.
Brask, you're up.
Effort is behind a few medium-sized boulders, and Burdan is kneeling behind a smaller one. They're both behind the front lines about 30 feet from the action. Burik and the Gnoll Pack Lord are fighting it out, while Brask and the Gnoll Flesh Gnawer are engaged in combat. The cultist is between them all, with Effort having misty stepped away. The gnoll hunter is on the opposite side of the fray, about 30 feet from his companions.

Brask's maul connects with the ravenous gnoll flesh gnawer, smashing into his upper thighs. It sends him sideways for a moment, but the beast lands on his feet, readying to pounce again. As it rears up, Burdan fires an arrow toward it.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The cultist sees the minotaur in pain and joins the flesh gnawer, swinging his scimitar down at Brask's shoulder.
Attack: 6 Damage: 4
Meanwhile, the pack lord thrusts its glaive at Burik, twice in quick succession.
Attack: 7 Damage: 10
Attack: 7 Damage: 7
As he does so, he howls, trying to incite more rage in his companions (recharge on 5-6): 5
This time, they don't seem to notice as they're all engaged in close combat. The gnoll hunter is ready, however, and fires two arrows at Burdan, knowing how dangerous a skilled archer can be.
Attack: 10 Damage: 8
Attack: 9 Damage: 7
One of the arrows sticks firmly into Burdan's left shoulder as he yells out in pain. Wincing, he notches another arrow...
Cadmael is up, followed by Effort (I took the hunter's turn a little early to expedite things)!
(I can't see my dice rolls by hovering over them any more, but I think Brask's damage of 7 must have been a 1 and a 2, so I can reroll both (from Great Weapon Fighting):
OOC: Yeah, that function has been busted the past few days. Kind of frustrating. I applied the full 15 damage to the flesh gnawer. He's still alive and attacking, but that maul shot did more damage than Brask originally thought. Probably snapped a femur.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cadmael will give Brask help this time on his attack.
Effort will focus on the gnoll fighting Brask and hex it, imposing disadvantage on its strength checks.
She will then try to eldritch blast it: Attack: 19 Damage: 10 force + 2 necrotic
If there is even more cover further back, she will move further back behind more cover, but still stay within 120 feet of the overall battle, or wherever she needs to be to have a line of sight to the combatants.
The blast's energy narrowly misses the gnoll, crashing into the earth behind it, sending pulses of energy crackling upward. Effort carefully waits for her moment and retreats back another 60 or so feet, behind more boulders.
Burik is up, then Brask with advantage.
