The boat floats aimlessly for a bit as you all patch up your wounds. Pip falls asleep almost immediately after he's bandaged up, clearly needing the time to recover. The clouds slowly start to break up apart and rise off the surface of the water, leaving a similar gray sky. Cadmael can finally start to fly a bit higher, and sees no sign of danger on the water - or in it, as far as he can tell. Bits of the larger ship's wreckage float by once in awhile, mostly pieces of wood and some tattered cloth.
You can all perform a short rest. Effort, give me an arcana or religion check with advantage.
Feeling the energy fade away, Kurama felt a wave of exhaustion hit him as he managed to scramble aboard the life raft; quickly falling into a psudo-sleep. Eventually coming to once the sky had returned to its normal endless gray, Kurama lifted himself up and leaned his back against the side of the boat. "I am glad we all survived that... somehow... It seems we all have a knack for surving impossible situations. I suppose that'sa good trait to possess based off of our mission." he eventually commented. After a beat, he continued, "What do you propose we do now? Return to the mainland and search for another vessel? We have no idea where or how far away we are from the last Sister and I worry about being found by those amphibious creatures again. We cannot defend ourselves on a ship this small should they find us..."
A knack? Yeah, a knack, mutters Brask as he briefly tends his own wounds before focusing his attention again on Pip. Pip, I'd tell you to stay back and stay hidden more, but maybe that doesn't work on boats. So I guess, once we're back on land, we never get on another boat, how does that sound?
So, no, not back to the mainland. If this stup... if this Sister wants to save the world, or wants us to save the world, or whatever in the hells we're doing, she can bloody well show her face. He raises his face to the sky and speaks, though not too loudly and with no evidence that anyone is listening.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Effort nods in agreement with Brask. "There is no turning back. We came out here knowing it would be difficult to find her. But turning back means death, not only for us, but three planes of existence. We find her or we die trying," she says curtly, still upset by the loss of the much more comfortable larger boat.
Turning to Cadmael, she squints at the owl. "Can you take to the air and tell us what you see around us? Even if it is just a strange patch of mist or fog in the ocean, or unusual activity underwater, it would be of great help." She scratches the bird on the head before he leaves, giving him guidance: You have been a great help to us in that incident, my brave companion. I thank you for saving Brask and Kurama. And ask that you now do so once again.
Pip nods and attempts to smile through the pain and grogginess. "Good...have had...enough boats..."
Of course. Cadmael cocks his head to the side as he looks at Effort briefly before taking flight once more. The sky is dark and seeing into the distance can't be easy. Even with his exquisite eyesight, Cadmael strains to see as far as possible. The vastness of this blue-gray ocean and gray sky are disorientating, and for quite some time there doesn't seem to be anything worth noting. A few hours pass by as you float somewhat aimlessly along. Pip sleeps for most of the time.
Hm. Cadmael thinks. There...yes, there is something on the horizon. It appears to be small, and moving slowly. I see only one figure in the vessel.
"Searching," Effort says in response to Brask. Eventually, her brows crease as Cadmael reports back. "He's spotted a boat on the horizon, with only one person upon it. ... It would be prudent to try to move in that direction, I believe."
Cadmael... help us find this other vessel,Effort asks, even as she casts about the boat for something to row or sail with.
The little skiff has two paddles tucked underneath the benches, so you can certainly row in the direction of this other boat. There's a single small mast with a sail as well, but it isn't particularly windy at the moment.
It doesn't seem to be moving with any focus, Cadmael observes. Just drifting. The figure appears to be humanoid, though it is difficult to say from this range. It looks to be at least slightly larger than average.
(Sorry I've been M.I.A the past few days. It been a rather hectic time at work the past few months!)
"I am uneasy doing so, but at the moment, that seems to be our only option..." Kurama commented before moving towards a spot where he could pick up one of the paddles. He'd wait for Brask to take the other one before beginning to row. "I am not as strong as you in this form Brask, so do not over exert yourself or I suspect we will end moving forward very slowly in circles." he'd add to the minotaur.
(Oh my gosh, sorry, I thought I posted something after Cadmael reported back, but apparently I didn't? Whoops!)
"Try again," Effort says curtly to Kurama, giving him guidance and then helping him, while directing the group towards Cadmael. (maybe you can get that over a 5 with another advantage roll and a d4, lol)
Cadmael... can you drop just a bit closer to see who it is on that vessel? Effort asks as she rows.
Brask's initial stroke is massive, throwing the entire vessel into a rocking, spinning motion. Kurama struggles to balance and get his oar in the water as the minotaur grins, plunging his oar into the water again and pulling back. Eventually the monk steadies himself and gets his own oar into the water, slowly correcting the spinning ship. Brask eases up a bit.
Eventually the other boat comes into view, even to the rest of you. Cadmael at this point is able to get much closer, and Effort sees through his eyes.
The figure is muscular but hunched over. A dark cloak and hood hides any distinguishes characteristics. Cadmael tries to fly down closer to the water and get a better angle - perhaps a bit too close. The figure snaps its head upward but makes no movement toward the owl. Effort, you immediately recognize them. This is Namar, your old gang's sworn enemy and the one responsible for deaths you remember all too well.
Effort visibly recoils at the sight, and jher lips draw back in a reflexive snarl, before she sets her face back passively.
"Namar," she says, tension still present in her voice. "The person on the boat looks like Namar. The orc I killed personally on our plane. He cannot possibly be here, for he is dead. Yet there is something wearing his face." Her eyes narrow. "An illusion?"
Sightlessly, she touches her forehead, still peering at Namar through Cadmael's eyes as the bird circles overhead.
Cadmael circles the small boat as Namar tracks him in the sky. Effort, you can't sense any illusion magic here. He doesn't make any other movements, until eventually he sits back and slumps up against the side of the vessel. His hood drops off onto his shoulders and he scratches under his chin. There doesn't appear to be anything else in the boat - no oars, weapons, or other beings.

Short rest: 15 hp back
Arcana check with adv: 17
(Also cast Armor of Agathys before resting, so it's gone if nothing happens when she wakes up, but 15 thp if the rest is interrupted)
Hit die for Short Rest: 19

Well, that's me all out of ideas, he says.

Brask grabs an oar. Don't worry, I'll go easy on you, he lies as he gives the oar his mightiest pull. Try to keep up.
Both of you, give me an athletics check.

Kurama athletics (take 2) w/ guidance: 15 + 1 = 16.
With Effort's help, Kurama found the right technique to row, generating much more force than he had previously.
