Edgewalkers Campaign Thread

Meiara:

"Don't let him go. His masters aren't going to open up a portal with us behind him. He'll just run away the minute we let him go." Meiara said, keeping her scimitar up.

Vusgaar eyes narrow to dangerously slits at the culitist. He lets the man sweat for a few moments prior to finally regarding the others with an inquisitive brow raise. "A good point. If they can divine things in the maze, it would be... difficult to redirect their focus while we slip into their company. In either case, seeing as there is time, we may wish for a short rest at very least. I, and perhaps you, Meiara, could use one, if only to recover some of our magical reserves." As the two deliberate, he then looks down to the unconscious other cultist. "... And do we keep both?"

"I'd say no to keeping both, unless you're confident that the other cultist is going to provide us with information that this one didn't."

"You hear that? One less competition for you." Vusgaar said upon turning back to the cultist. Leaving the others to keep an eye on him, he pulls the unconscious one in close to his lips as first, jaw slowly opening as if readying to rip out their throat. This he does in clear view of the conscious one. Yet, after a few tense moments of silence, the shifter adjusts his grip about unconcious one in his hands, and snaps their neck between his arms in a more 'civilized' act. "Without reliance on the portal, we will have to make do in finding some other unspoken signs and symbols." He said to the Edgewalkers, then leered down at the man. "With your ongoing cooperation, of course."

Turning back to Demetrios specifically, he asked, "As we at least have some time. But I would not trust fully having a day. I will begin setting up an alarm further down the path we take. Once rested, we can press forward until we at least find clearer signs."He states, and if there are no objections, walks off just ten feet further ahead and startslaying out a silent sensor. Batican he sends off in an opposing or adjacent path to keep watch there as everyone takes a short rest.

Short rest: 17

Meiara meditates upon the power of nature, regaining physical and spiritual energy.

Vusgaar enters his own meditative state once the alarm is fully operational. Through the mantra and a reminder of 'Today is a good day', he slowly began to regain the focus needed to press further into the maze.

(Used Arcane Recovery to regain a spellslot)

Sneaky Cultist: 16

Partway through the rest, the cultist manages to slip his hands out of his bonds and make a run for it.

Demetrios seethes when he sees the cultist escape and run for it, the paladin quickly bolting right after him!

Athletics: 8

Meiara extends her staff and casts Create Bonfire.

DC13 Dex Save or take 3

Vusgaar cracks open an eye, sighs, and then almost casually draws out and flicks his dagger into the back of the man in one smooth motion. Whether he succeeds or not, if the man should escape, Batican tries to follow quietly behind to mark the man's progress.

Dagger Throw - Attack: 9 Damage: 4 of piercing.

Batisneak: 11.

Dex ST: 20

The man manages to dodge the bonfire and the dagger, outpacing Demetrios. Ahead, shadow (just darkness, not the monsters) boils out of the wall, forming a dark portal that he makes for.

Meiara casts Create Bonfire again.

Dex ST: 19

He dodges again.

Demetrios huffs and tries to catch up to the cultist and tackle him to the ground!

Charlie horse! 22

The cultist goes down under Demetrios! He grunts and struggles, but the elan is able to securely pin him to the ground. The portal pulses slowly, still open...for now.

"Dangerous, but now's our chance." Vusgaar glares down at the cultist with baleful eyes. "We must go least this window closes on us. Take him or end him, but decide quickly." Without waiting for an answer, Vusgaar stalks closer to the portal, but sends Batican ahead on through. Only after Demetrios and Meiara have jumped through themselves however will he follow in their wake.

Meiara knocks out the recently re-captured cultist.

Down he goes! Back into the sweet darkness of unconsciousness and stuff.

“He may be able to tell us how to open these portals with a bit of convincing...” Demetrios considers aloud then, using some of his rope, he reties the cultist and throws him over his shoulder. “Better safe than sorry.”

When everyone is ready, the paladin leads them through the portal that definitely won’t lead them to their certain doom.
