"I was told that the mountain was dark and contained an evil presence. I was also told that no one has entered the mountain and returned, save for a creature called the Old Toothed, which we would call a wolf."

"That's similar to what we were told as well; undead are being risen from the altavar influence. Though, it seems they have made it about a quarter mile in, isn't much, but something is something, right?" Demetrios sounds a bit hopeful in the regard. "We will be receiving a map for reference. As for this 'Old Toothed', did they happen to tell you where they may be residing? Perhaps we could... seek guidance from the creature?"

"Unfortunately I was not given any information on where it lived or whether it would help us. I was merely told that he led his flock inside the maze and only he returned. Animals can be helpful when you speak them, but their perspective has a tendency to be...limited? They aren't looking at things through the same eyes that we are. We see some things they don't, they see some things we don't." Meiara shrugs. "It would be much easier if I could turn into a bird or something that could fly up and see what's going on inside the maze."

The soldiers deliver a map to you that contains a simple map of the first quarter mile of the maze, with all traps and such that they know about marked carefully.
It is currently late afternoon. When do you plan to enter the maze?
Talaak nods, "A quarter mile is better than nothing, though we should wait for morning before entering to minimize the immediate danger. As for your 'Old-toothed', I have no real desire to have us enter this place and have only one person return. Seek them out if you wish, but even if you can find them, they may not be of any help."
"They should." Vusgaar chimes in as he casually kept watch of the immediate area. "If we ask around the general barracks area, one should be able to point us the way. It's not as if we're 'guests' in the traditional sense of the word."The ursine shifter scrunches up his face ever so much at a word, then looks to Demetrios for the marching orders.

Sure enough, you're able to get beds in a dorm to sleep in for the night. The next day, you enter the maze, a tangle of corridors surrounded by mile high walls of black stone. The entire place feels threatening, as if the maze itself is regarding you with malevolence.
OOC: Okay, give me any preparations you make before entering, and then we'll get into the meat of this.
Mechanic: You have a map for the first quarter mile of the maze. After that, you'll either have to expand the map or have a really good memory to get out. I will roll encounters for each hour you're in the maze, the likelihood of an encounter will depend on your location (for example, in the well patrolled first quarter mile, you gotta get a nat 20 to get an encounter). Let's go!
Meiara will request that Demetrios give her the map, although she will make sure to consult him frequently, as two heads are better than one. She also makes a point to acquire a writing utensil so that she can add to it as they explore.

"Does anyone have chalk or some other implement we could use to mark the path we came from? I could light a torch and use the charcoal, but if anyone has anything else on hand, that would be preferable."
Aside from the usual morning prep, Vusgaar reunites with the others bearing a sleepy-eyed fly fox hanging off a shoulder, and some of the strange sigils and lines of the armor he wore lit up for the next hour(ritual casted comprehend languages). "I apologies, but no. Most of my preparations were towards overcoming potential obstacles within barring navigation. And what little ink and spare parchment I have is far too limited to be of much help." Vusgaar confesses with brows furrowed consternation.

Although you hear a few noises, you manage to avoid running into anything nasty as you traverse the first quarter mile. Soon you reach the edge of the map.
Meiara creates a quick bonfire to generate some charcoal and breaks a piece off to use as a writing utensil. She looks at the map, ready to update it. What lies before her?

At the end of the maze's mapped area is a choice between three paths-to the right, straight ahead, or around a bend that leads in the opposite direction from where you are going.
OOC: I'm not going to do this for the whole maze, because it will quickly get impossible for me to keep track of, even with my map, but I may do it every now and then at a few key points.
Whichever direction the others are the most keen to go down, Vusgaar gestures down the path, prompting the flying fox(Bat) to fly ahead to investigate the course ahead. In fact, if it comes down to it, he even asks to bower Demetrios shoulder, so that as they walked forward, he would be able clasp a shoulder to at least continue walking behind blind.

Demetrios gladly hands the map over to Meiara, finding that since she was more intuned with nature, she probably had a better idea of how to navigate through the maze. He offers his opinion when she needs help weighing in on which direction they should head down. "Let's keep moving forward..."
As they make way, the paladin now sees the little bat creature flying overhead to get an overview of the maze, noting that it was the others familiar. "Good idea, Vusgaar." He has no issues with the wizard using his shoulder as an anchor as they move forward, hoping that he didn't just lead the group to a dead end.

As a precaution, as I'm fairly certain it is reasonable assume past Edgewalkers have tried to scout out the mazes by flying above in some fashion, Ba-Taro sticks to be just below the top of the walls, but flies at least sixty feet roughly ahead of the group normally. But will for now be scouting out the three passages from left to right up to 100ft before attempting to return.)
