Ellis will gladly accept any food before watching the exchange between Darion, Robyn, and Erro as he chuckled a little. He smiles, happy that at least for now they can relax a little and hoped that they were still making good time as well.
Rawk watches the display with relative enjoyment and lets out a rapid series of high pitched chirps in a what you suppose is a laugh. "I suppose we could. Though I don't think they are quite as effective as those." she says to Erro pointing to the well crafted oars from Kainui. She will engage in conversation if mentioned but will stay mostly silent, still upset that her actions likely caused a delay in thier travels. She'll look out to the lake and attempt to catch some fish for Elia to cook and if successful save a smaller one to swallow whole.
Darion shifts uncomfortably when Erro asks him a direct question, and you can almost see the shutters coming down. However, Darion is feeling relaxed and reflects perhaps there is not much harm in talking about himself, at least a little bit.
He nods in answer to Erro's question "Yes, he's taught me a lot. Found me on the streets, saw I had taught myself some simple magics...." he uses prestidigitation to conjure a small flickering flame in his palm "Met my mum, and one thing led to another, I guess! Got an apprentice and a wife in a 2 for 1 deal!"
He stares off for a minute "He's a good man, worked against the Yuan-ti when their proxies ruled the city. Always seems to see the best in people, perhaps sometimes too trusting though."
He stops, clearly uncomfortable "We could use some of his power now, but he and mum won't even have figured out what happened yet, as I was supposed to be gone for a couple of months anyway, collecting things, learning. Luck was not with me!" he smiles bleakly.
When he has finished speaking to Erro, he will go and sit near Rawk, he gives her a friendly smile "I just wanted to say - you look as if you are still beating yourself up a bit over those oars. You really don't need to to, it was just bad luck and an accident. I think people often blame themselves to much for things beyond their control, it is sometimes better to accept that much of what happens to us in this world is not because of our doing, but the vagaries of chance. What matters is what we do with that - like flying off bravely to repair the damage, and crafting some fine oars instead!"
Darion isn't great at this sort of thing, and it probably comes over as a little intense and awkward, but the sentiment is genuinely meant.
"Thanks." Rawk chirps back softly staring out over the lake. "I just hate that I cost us time. The yuan-ti could be attacking dom-gar soon and what if I caused us to be too late. It was a mistake but not one I plan on repeating. I appreciate the gesture. I think Erro's looked a good bit better than mine. Neither of us stand a chance against Kellar." she says holding up her carved oar. She was very appreciative of Darion's words but her fiery nature wouldn't let it go for a while. She would burn on the inside for a few more hours, perhaps through the night. Luckily she knew how to direct her anger, onto enemies and into her work. She wouldn't let it consume her, she'd keep it at a level where she could use it to her benefit later.
Your hour passes in a mixture of conversation, eating and relaxation. You watch as Rawk flies high into the air and soars for a few minutes before rapidly diving and catching a huge bass. She plops the fish onto the platform and Elia set to work gutting and preparing the fish while Rawk rejoins the clouds. She successfully catches four large fish in total eating one whole before setting off to the side as Elia finishes searing the meat. The aroma of the fatty meat and herbs causes your mouths to water as the afternoon sun bakes your skin. The clouds provide brief respite from the sun rays and at the expiration of an hour you return to your duties.
The catamaran had drifted slightly into deeper waters while you ate but Erro quickly course corrects and you make good time thanks to Elia's spell and the rowers efforts. The evening sun begins to fade and you wake Kellar, who looks a bit tired but is ready and willing to take the helm after eating a portion of food you set aside from him. "We've made good progress since the morning. If all holds well we should reach Dom-ryn tomorrow evening." He takes a moment to speak to Rawk alone, if you could be alone on the small vessel. "You did a brave thing... something none of us could do. If you ever return to Kainui, I'll teach you how to make oars like this one." he says and turns back to man the rudder. You each row for another hour gliding across the calm lake surface. Your muscles are now sore from prolonged use as the second straight day of sailing takes its toll. When Kellar gives the signal to rest you happily do so and make your preparations for the night.
I need everyone to make a constitution save, one person to roll a d10. If you are staying up to take a watch, roll perception.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Darion- Your muscles ache. You struggle to row that last hour and feel so tired. You think there's no way you could stay up for a watch tonight and as the sun sets you lean back and immediately nod off.
Erro, Rawk and Ellis- You are sore but push through the last hour of rowing and settle in for the night knowing a good rest will renew your strength. You see Darion pass out from exhaustion and Elia does her best to make him comfortable using a rolled up cot to prop him in a safe position. The clouds glide over the moonlit sky and periodically cast the lake in almost complete darkness. The scene is beautiful and terrifying as you surf across the water.
Erro- Your back feels surprisingly good, though it still is sore around the puncture wounds. Perhaps the change of pace and workout from rowing and sailing is helping strengthen the muscles that were damaged.
Rawk and Ellis- you notice a change in the cloud from thin grey and white puffs to tall dark clouds that seem to completely cut off the light. Miles to the east you see flashes of light from within the clouds and almost a minute later low rolling thunder.
Rawk's first watch passes by without issue and she watches the flashing clouds slowly creep closer. Erro's watch passes and he too now notices the approaching storm clouds but nothing happens during his watch. Erro wakes Ellis for his watch and about 10 minutes in he feels the first rain drop followed by a cool breeze. Kellar looks back to him and says in a soft but firm tone. "Make sure the oars are strapped down tight and try to secure the other's equipment." As Ellis moves to begin a bright flash from above illuminates the lake. In the distance you see a small island off to the north with a single small tree trunk that doesn't appear to have branches of leaves. There's a deep low rumble of thunder... another flash occurs a few seconds later and the island appears to be getting closer and the tree trunk has shifted. Perhaps its a large floating object. Ellis begins checking the straps over the oars and manages to secure them tightly to the platform then turns to look around at everyone's stuff. The vast majority is put up but there are a few things that are loose. Another flash, this time accompanied by a loud crack of thunder that awakens everyone but Darion.
Ellis- You turn to the north and catch the first good glimpse of the floating object. It isn't floating, it's swimming... towards you. A long neck cranes out in front of a large body that you assume is mostly underwater. It's hard to tell distance across water, let alone in the blink of an eye but you think it's between 100-200 feet away.
Everyone Roll Initiative! (No combat yet but going ahead and knocking this out.)
Ellis was shocked, seeing the thing now swimming towards them. Oh no, this is bad! "Everyone, wake up! Something huge is swimming towards us!" he yells, very worried and knowing that he doesn't have anything he can really do at the moment until that thing gets closer.
As Ellis shouts you all begin to shake off the grogginess and find your weapons. You look out at the dark waters in the direction Ellis indicates but see only darkness and water moving. A tense moment of silence passes before Elia and Kellar shout in near unison "There!" and point to the northeast. A bolt of lightning arcs down far to the north and you see a large long necked creature swimming to cut off your vessel about 100 feet away. "Do we fight or do we run?" Kellar shouts.
(If you fight we go into initiative. If you try to run everyone make a sailing check!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Pulse quickening, Erro grabs his longbow. "In these conditions I don't see how we could hope to outrun such a beast! But, perhaps we can drive it away?"Erro doesn't stop to debate, deciding to leave craftier ideas to the spellcasters in his group.
Attack 1: 16 Damage: 4. Attack 2: 11 Damage: 6. Slayer if first attack hits: 2
If attacks need to be made with disadvantage due to the stormy conditions here's a disadvantage roll for each. Attack 1: 18. Attack 2: 13.
At Ellis's cry Darion starts up "Sorry Mum" he mutters, then looks around confusedly before remembering where they are. It takes a few moments to collect himself, but as the long necked creature is highlighted by the lightening his eyes widen "Not good, not at all!" he mutters, reflexively casting the first spell that comes to mind, seeing Erro's arrows lance out.
On his turn, he will cast Magic Missile at 1st level, doing 12 force damage
(All attack rolls made will be at disadvantage until the plesiosaur is within 20 feet because none of you have darkvision. Ironically only Kellar and Elia do.)
Erro's first arrow sails into the darkness and you have no idea if it hit or not. You aim basing your shot off the sight from the lightning flash and release. A second passes before you hear a low roar of pain from the creature.
Ellis, then Rawk!

Erro is jumpy. Storms here were powerful and unlike anything he had seen back home, and to face one on the lake made him feel quite disconcerted.
Darion gives a snort, and shuffles still asleep, muttering something about "Reversing the polarity of the thaumatology flow"
I'll roll Darion's initiative with disadvantage as he is fast asleep!
