Darion is also impressed by the skill and discipline of their new allies. He will gratefully take time to rest, not speaking much to the others tonight but playing with Robyn, who flies down and lands near them. Darion will pick her up up and blow on her tummy, and spend some time throwing crumbs of food that Robyn plays at catching. He will turn to Ellis "Ellis, could you do one of your songs, something soothing and calming to help rest after a long day?" he will ask.
When it comes time to settle in, he will send Robyn to scout as well.
Ellis is thankful for their new allies, so synchronized and organized unlike any villagers he has ever seen. With all of their forces combined, they will definitely be able to stop the Yuan-ti once and for all. Then he had heard Darion, nodding back as he smiles. "Alright, sure." Ellis says back before he starts to sing a soothing and calming song with his angelic voice.
((Yes, Merry Christmas to all! As Ellis sings Silent Night to bring peace to a troubled year. Foof I hope COVID 2.0 is sparing you and yours over there. I’m spending the holiday holed up at home.))
As the moon slides up the sky and casts a glowing white beam across the lake you sit and listen to the waves and sails flapping in the wind. A single voice pierces through the quiet in a soft gentle melody. Ellis's voice rises slowly above the ambient waves and spreads across the open water. You can see movement on the other vessels in the flickering light of the longship's flames. The song rises and falls, a song of a heroes return home from a great battle, matching the calm waters you sail on. As the song comes to a close a few seconds of silence pass before you hear the drumming of weapons on shields and against the wood of the ships. "They wish to hear another song." Kellar says. Ellis obliges and begins a second song, a song of valor and bravery. His voice carries over the wind and you feel the intense silence during each rest between notes. The second song comes to and end and you hear the sound of a single drumming of a sword on a shield. Thump Thump a few seconds pass before the same series is mimicked by all of the warriors. THUMP THUMP.... THUMP THUMP. The silence that follows is nearly deafening but no sound other than the waves breaks the silence. "Get some rest. We still have a few long days ahead of us." Kellar says softly.
You gladly obey this final order and settle in as comfortably as you can. The early night passes and around 1am the wind shifts direction due north. A small rain storm to the south approaches and by 3 am begins to cry its heavy tears onto the fleet. Sporatic but large raindrops fall causing small splashes in the lake with each impact. The heavy droplets fade into a warm gentle rain that resembles heavy mist than rain. Despite the uncomfortable situation you manage to rest, though you occasionally take a raindrop to the face, and pass the night. You awaken to a heavy fog that obscures your vision of the area around you. You can just make out the darker outlines of the catamarans adjacent to you. Only the glowing fires of the longships reassure you of their presence nearby.
I need two Sailing checks and two perception checks! (You can add a D8 to your roll thanks to Ellis' performance last night.)
Erro frowns at the sight of the fog. “So much water that it even crowds out the air. Maybe the desert isn’t so bad after all” Erro says as he bobs along, humming the song from the previous night that was stuck in his head.
The fog glows in the morning sun and the cool dense mist slowly vanishes as the heat from the sun bakes it away. You eat a hearty breakfast and prepare for the day’s travel. While eating you begin to see the fog slowly dissolving away and can see about 40 feet beyond the entire fleet. The burning pyres of the longships still acting as beacons, you can see the formation is quite looser than it was the day before. Whether due to the fog or by choice the ships are all spread out roughly 30 feet from another. The minutes pass and the fog fades further and the golden orange sky to the southeast struggle against dark clouds to the north. Kellar takes a short reprieve from his post to eat and you feel a cold wind blow through from the west.
As you finish your meals you feel another gust come through and can see in the distance the tall dark clouds of a storm forming to the northeast. A further gust carries away the remnants of the fog cloud away and you are left with bright clear skies to the west. You hear the familiar horn from the lead longship blow and watch as the sails fall and catch the now sustained winds from the west. Kellar aids Rawk lowering the sail and you feel the jolt as the sails catch the wind and the catamaran surges forward across the water. You each man your stations and begin to row in pace with the others. The first hour passes with relative ease while Kellar squints and watches the threatening storm. Darion, you can tell the storm is many miles away but is also quite powerful to be sending gusts and sustained winds this far away. “We are making excellent time. Though the storm is quite troubling. I’m going to rest. Wake me if I’m needed.” Kellar says and lies down on his cot quickly falling asleep from the long night.
The second hour of rowing passes and you get a break. You each look out towards the approaching storm and look to the sails which still catch the strong wind blowing from west to east. Darion, you can tell the storm is approaching but at an angle rather than directly. You know enough about storms that you wouldn’t wager a bet, but you think it might just pass by. As your break nears its end you see the two flag bearing warriors ascend the mast and begin signaling the rest of the fleet. Once again a single catamaran glides nearby to shout, “Sails at ¾ and man the rowing stations but do not row until the horn blows.” And just as before the catamaran returns to its position in the formation.
You sit in your stations at the ready and watch as the storm grows closer, but it also fuels the wind that swiftly guides you westward towards your destination. Darion and Ellis, you both notice the clouds to the northeast are set to pass you by but about a mile or so into the storm you see a strange dark circle forming and the clouds swirling. Minutes pass by tensely as raindrops begin to fall. The vast majority of the storm resides to the east but the storm clouds stretch nearly 2 miles in front of you. The circular swirling clouds now lie a few hundred feet to the south of the fleet. You can see the water near the edge of the shore begin to lift into the sky. Another few minutes pass as you watch the swirling mass of sand and water begin to stretch and twist upward towards the sky. A similar funnel of swirling clouds stretches down to meet the spinning mass of debris. The heavy rain pelts your faces and begins to sting. You hold up your hand and feel the impacts of cold hard rain that turns to hail about the size of a dime.
You hear the horn blow loudly across the air and watch as the two funnels connect and begin to carry up larger pebbles, shrubs and small trees.
Athletics: 20 (As per Tasha’s I don’t have my bonus HP feature anymore, but it is replaced by Canny, which gives me expertise in a skill and I chose Athletics; first time it has come into play so I thought I’d mention it!)
“Ohhhhh myyyyyyy goddddddddds!” Erro shouts as he looks upon the sight, furiously rowing or hanging on or whatever he is doing.
Darion half strands up in his seat, amazed at the sight "Magnificent!" he mutters, in awe, then suddenly realises the danger they are in, muttering a particularly foul curse escape his lips.

Erro was amazed by the precision and show of force from their new allies. He was starting to thank the Yuan-ti wouldn’t stand much of a chance. Good.
