((Happy new year! Yes, let us dearly hope. I’m sorry to hear that foof... though I’m sure we’ll be there too before too long. Not locking down of course, just letting it rampage out of control even more, you know.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Yes, wishing you all a better year. Apologies for the delay, been without heat since Wednesday and have been working on that through the holidays.)
The horn is nearly drowned out by the loud roar of the swirling mass of debris and air. You watch as all of the sails are immediately drawn up while others man the oars and begin rowing directly away from the funnel. The longship to the north has its sail torn by a large branch of a tree but it manages to lurch forward. Rawk easily handles the sails using her flight to quickly bound them up before returning to the rudder. Kellar wakes up to the commotion and peers in awe at the sight then begins to look around for where to assist. You all begin rowing away following the fleet. You watch as a small tree, roughly 15 feet tall, impacts a catamaran about 40 feet away. Wood splinters and cracks while bodies are crushed or thrown into the waters. The hail beats down on your fingers but you fight through the pain and focus on escaping this torrent of wind and water. Ellis- you take 2 bludgeoning damage from the hail. You glance back and see another floating pile of wreckage from another catamaran. Then you see it, far behind you a catamaran that was too slow to bind its sails. The tornado seeming pulling the small craft towards the swirling mass through its sheer raw power. The catamaran disappears behind the swirling mass of water and debris then you catch glimpses of the sail or people or large chunks of the destroyed vessel.
The tornado funnel twists and contorts while you strain to move away from the howling winds. You thrash the water with your oars for about 15 seconds before Rawk begins squawking a tempo. Everyone except for Ellis quickly adjusts to the tempo and with Kellar's assistance Ellis calms and matches the tempo after a minute passes. You steadily move away from the tornado that seems to hover around the shore then turns southwest heading deeper into the jungle. You row heavily for 5 minutes and watch the devastation from the tornado as it carves a path into the dense jungle. The once light grey funnel of water now turns dark brown as it sucks up the dirt and decaying underbrush of the jungle floor. The hail subsides and turns to heavy rain as you continue to row at a steady, but less frantic, pace. A few more minutes pass and you watch as the funnel seems to break up in the sky partially then connect again. The roar begins to subside and the funnel once again severs in the middle of the sky. The dirt cloud near the ground shrinks and clears into a thick haze while the swirling clouds seem to slow and now glide across the sky rather than twist. After an hour of rowing a horn from the lead longship breaks the eerie silence and you look out at the shore. The rain lightens and through in the distance you see numerous people on the mast of the northern longship repairing the sails as quickly as they can. The scattered fleet takes a collective moment of rest. You breathe heavily and look around at the other ships. A few appear undamaged like your own vessel but there are many that have scattered debris on or stuck into the hulls or platforms. One catamaran sails through the fleet towards the lead longship with a bleeding sailor who appears to be impaled in the side with a large shard of wood from a tree branch or bush.
Darion looks around "Just shows you should never discount luck... our whole war effort nearly destroyed not because of the machinations of the Yuan-ti, but the mindless expression of weather..." he shakes his head in wonder, then turns to Ellis and Elia "Do we need to see if your services are needed in healing some of our allies?" he suggests.
Ellis hears Darion, nodding back as he was shocked to see the bleeding impaled sailor on another ship. "Yes, we should help heal them!" he says back, worried with how bad that storm was.
Erro is pale from such a close brush with his demise, but more so the thought of their whole chance against the Yuan-ti getting flushed downriver. Between this and his sea legs he was eager to get back on solid land for a long stay.
“Dreadful fate for some of these mates. Let’s pitch in and help. Rawk, do you think any of the men thrown overboard are still alive? Perhaps you could survey from the air?”
"Yes" Elia replies simply and calls out to the catamaran as it glides by and you watch them cock their heads in confusion but turn and head towards your vessel. Elia leans over the injured sailor and examines his wounds with Ellis. As the sailors carefully board your vessel carrying the injured sailor you can tell it's a woman. A 1 inch wide jagged branch nearly 10 inches long juts out from her left side. A dark stain grows around the wound as bloodied hands apply pressure.
Ellis- make a medicine check with advantage.
Rawk- if you agree to search make a perception check. At advantage if Robyn assists.
Darion- Robyn can assist or make a separate perception check.
While Ellis and Elia look over the wounded sailor, Rawk and Robyn take to the skies to try and find survivors.
Ellis: While the giant splinter is quite large it doesn't appear to have hit the woman's liver or spleen. You hand her a wrapped up bandage to bite down on and with the help of Elia, you successfully pull out the splinter in one piece while Elia simultaneously casts Cure Wounds sealing the puncture wound closed. You look at the large splinter and can tell by the blood stain that it was embedded nearly 3 inches deep into her body. The sailors watch this display of skill and magic with a sense of awe and respect. The impaled woman now very pale from blood loss passes out. You check over her body for other injuries but guess the fainting was from shock rather than another mortal injury. You sprinkle a bit of cool water from the lake across her forehead and instruct the other sailors to transfer her back to the other vessel, ensuring them she will be fine with some rest.
Rawk & Robyn: You soar into the air flying above the wreckage of the two lost catamarans being that there's no visible remains of the third that was sucked into the funnel. You see the overturned shape of one mostly well preserved with a broken support beam on one side. The other catamaran lies shattered in large broken pieces that float slowly apart from one another. You see a severed torso of one sailor a dark pool forming around it. You see one other floating corpse intact but unnaturally contorted from the impact of the tree. You expected to see more bodies but after a few minutes of observation you discover the reason behind the lack of them. The partial torso is the first to be swallowed up by a large fish with gangly needle like teeth. It chomps down on the torso and pulls it under the surface never to resurface again. The corpse floats for a few more seconds before it too is snatched by a similar looking fish and disappears into the depths of the lake. You return to the catamaran empty handed.
Darion looks around "I suggest we start to make a move fast - the dead have started to attract predators. I suspect we would not want to encounter those too readily!"
“No, and I don’t care to ever again!” Erro replies. “You’re right about the sail on the longship. We may have escaped the goblins only to be eaten by wolves, or, how do you say it here, ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire?’”
“Do you think there’s any way we can assist in the repairs? Darion, any magic trick you know for that one?”
Ellis is so thankful that he and Elia were able to help and save the woman. Then he agrees with the others about needing it to get out of here soon. But the one ship's sail is torn as Erro asked if they could help in the repairs. Then he had remembered a spell, thinking that it could possibly work. "I know a spell that could possibly help. It's meant to repair a break or tear in an object, but not larger than a foot though. So it would still take a little time using it over and over, but should be faster than repairing by hand." Ellis then spoke up.
Elia looks to Ellis and replies, "Mending, while very useful, has some limitations. Even from this distance you can tell the tears in the sails of the longship are much larger than a foot. However, I do know that given some time the spell would be useful for many of the catamaran sails that have smaller rips and tears in them from debris and I can assist you." She says with a smile and you begin to call over the catamarans for repairs.
Kellar looks out to the longship and looks back to Rawk, "Are you handy with needle and thread? If so, they could probably use your help to fix the tears in the middle of the sail that are hard to reach. If not, I suppose you could carry me over there and hold me in the sky, if you think you're able." he proposes also looking ready to move away from the storm that still lingers too close for his comfort.
Ellis make a Dexterity check with advantage.
Rawk make a leatherworking check or an athletics check.
Darion or Erro, make a Sailing check with advantage.

"I agree. We may be waiting on that longship though. It's sail took a pretty bad tear. Have you ever seen something so powerful?" Rawk asks.
“No, and I don’t care to ever again!” Erro replies. “You’re right about the sail on the longship. We may have escaped the goblins only to be eaten by wolves, or, how do you say it here, ‘out of the frying pan and into the fire?’”
