Gunnar rubs his beard, “Though, frankly, acids and poisons are more Bryn’s forte... maybe I could bring her some as a gift.” Gunnar continues forward, “However, first things first.” Gunnar lifts an axe from his belt and slings the axe toward the large cocoon, Attack: 16 Damage: 11 magic slashing damage.

You slice through the cocoon with ease but the axe stops as it hits something hard... the cocoon twitches and arthropod legs burst out from the side of it as a large head bursts out from within and snaps its jaws towards whoever is standing the closest, but it doesn't manage to reach. As the monster realises the position it is in it starts tearing at the cocoon, ripping it apart piece by piece with its teeth and more legs burst from its sides. 

The cocoon is growing weaker by the minute, you have about a round before it tears itself free!

Gunnar’s eyes go wide, “Uhhhh, if you more destructive magic wielders could put those talents to good use, I would really appreciate it!” Gunnar reaches an arm out as a rune shimmers into existence on a nearby rock, “ Propulsion!”

The rock shoots into the air and, with a burst of arcane flame, rockets toward the cocoon. The creature in the cocoon must make a DC 14 Dex Save or take 8 bludgeoning damage! It was a small burst...

Meanwhile, he shouts out, “Gullinbursti! Interference!” Gullinbursti stands near the closest target to shield damage!

Tovar watches with interest, but hesitates, unsure as to how best to deal with the situation.

Ruby jumps and gives out a small yelp as the head bursts forth, instinctively raising her wand towards the creature.

Fire Bolt

Attack: 26

Damage: 6 fire damage.

The Cycle puts a hand into their pocket and pulls out a fistful of greenish brown powder and throws it at the creature, casting Blindness/Deafness. The spores fly through the air and cling to its multifaceted soulless eyes, blinding it. (Rolled a 1 on discord) He then smears the residual spores on his staff casting Shillelagh.

Meanwhile an anvil appears out of nowhere, whirring right past the creature into the wall, cracking parts of it. (1 on discord) Ravi casts Spiritual Weapon and then slams his warhammer into his shield and a gong-like sound can be heard echoing throughout the cavern. (4 on discord) ( Toll the Dead ) Dealing: 5 damage.

Gunnars rock smacks right into the wall where the anvil hit, lodging itself into the crack as the hive lord ducks. (18 on discord) The fire bolt, however, smacks right into the side of its large head. Tovars presence is great emotional support through all of this. Good for him.

With a set nod, as if finally establishing that this is, indeed, another threat, and not just a hatchling to be momentarily dispatched, Tovar again raises his shield and steps forward, putting his bulk right next to the creature. With a quick hand, he takes a strike at the creature.

Attack: 11 Damage: 7

SHOOT HER. SHOOT HEEEEER.

Initiative: 14

Gunnar is going to Ready a crossbow shot for when Gullinbursti helps him. He commands Gullinbursti to help him as a bonus action.

Gullinbursti trundles next to the cocoon and points its snout at it.

FIRE w/ sharpshooter! Attack: 21 Damage: 14 piercing damage

Seeing that their initial attacks didn't put down the creature, Ruby scrunches her face up as she concentrates on putting more effort into a second, larger fire bolt.

Chromatic Orb (cast at 2nd level)

Attack: 20 Damage: 9 Fire Damage -> Reroll: 18 Fire Damage

The Cycle makes a small motion with their hand and creates a spectral draconic hand right in front of the hive lord. The hand claws at its already blinded eyes. Chill Touch
Attack: 19 Damage: 7

Ravi directs his spiritual anvil again. Trying to slam it into the side of the large monster once more. 
Attack: 5 Damage: 3

Meanwhile Tovar manages to get the tongue of the creature as it is flailing about in its blind state (made an extra roll for Jabthar because of advantage critted on discord) dealing an extra 6 damage to it!

The burst of fire slams into the creature, singing it even further as whatever residual fluid from the cocoon starts to boil on its body. 

The hive lord backs up a little opening for opportunity attacks with it's back to the wall it rears its head and a spray of pure acid shoots from it's mouth, getting both Gullinbursti and Tovar. 
DC 14 Dex save (success = half damage). The acid deals 31 damage. 

An crossbowbolt flies through the air, hitting the monster as it was distracted by the mecha-pig in front of it. The still blinded creature roars in pain from the devastating attacks and the party suddenly hears a familiar clicking echoing throughout the cave.

"Quick, before they can help this beast!"  Ruby attempts to keep up the onslaught of fire, and points her wand at the creature a third time...

Damage: 5 Thunder Damage

Boar Dex: 8

Aaaand that just melted a lot of important parts. Gullinbursti is unconscious.

Dex save for Tovar: 11

 Catching the acid wave full in the face, Tovar stumbles back, landing heavily on his back. He chokes out a cry for a moment, tries to heave himself up again, and collapses, his body smoking as the acid sinks through his mail shirt.

Gunnar curses as his fine piece of craftsmanship clanks and spurs on its deathbed.

He raises his crossbow again!

Attack: 24 Damage: 6 magic piercing damage. 15 if I have advantage. Welp.

Both bolts, both magical ones of energy and the one made of wood and metal hit the hive lord right in its abdomen, throwing it against the wall. 

"It is not your shift in The Cycle yet, human." The Cycle whispers under their breath, casting Healing Word at Tovar for 7. Another spectral draconic hand drifts off of his towards the monster. 
Attack: 24 Damage: 5

Meanwhile the clicking from the surrounding tunnels grow louder. They'll be here.. soon.

With the ringing of hammer against shield echoing throughout the cavern the entire party watches as the monster drops to the ground with a last scream so high pitched only the most sensitive ears could hear. The second your enemy hits the ground the clicks and clacks from the caves surrounding you grows quieter and quieter. You stand at the ready by the entrances for a few seconds, waiting for a new wave of critters to come at you, but no-one comes for you.

It's quiet, and the warm damp air of the cave combined with the stress your bodies have gone through the last minute almost makes it hard to breathe.
