Ruby, standing at the back of the group so that she doesn't have to talk to the guard that got her in trouble, retrieves her wand from the inside of her overcoat. As she ponders what sort of nightmarish creature those spikes could have come from, nerves set in and she starts to worry that she may be hurt, or worse, if they proceed any further. She wasn't a fighter, but she didn't fancy handing the gold back to the horrible Mrs Stringent, so promised herself she would help in other ways.
Her wand glows for a second in response to her thoughts. She holds her free hand up to her face, and finds that it is coated in what appears to be shimmering air, which does not rise, but instead remains a centimetre or so above her skin. Further examination tells her that her entire body is covered in a similar manner.
Waiting a few seconds for an answer the guard starts opening the barricaded door, which takes about a minute. The corridor is pitch black and the low light from the guards hooded lantern only illuminates a few feet into the tunnel in front of you. "Alright then, gods be with you!" A shimmering, pink bubble gulping and probably a little flustered Ruby with her ragtag party by her side enters the pitch black darkness of the tunnel. The roof here is almost 30 ft tall as far as those with darkvision can see, but parts of the roof have long since collapsed and left large boulders blocking some of the path further ahead. Gunnar, Tovar and the cycle are however left blind in the pitch black darkness as the guard closes the door behind you. You all hear the clinging and clunking of a heavy iron beam is put in front of the door, locking it from the other side. The air in here is hotter and a little more damp than the air closer to the exit, but those with darkvision can't see any visible puddles on the floor or hear water dripping.
The hall continues behind the large boulders, but they are easy enough for you to walk through. Tovar might have to walk sideways though. What a broad shouldered man.

Gullinbursti, the Automated boar, walks in front of Gunnar, as it has dark vision.
Meanwhile, Gunnar pulls out a small ornate hammer, which looks like a hammer with a signet on its head. He gives a soft tap to his belt buckle as a faint rune glows for a moment and then fades. After which, Gunnar’s belt buckle begins shedding light for 5 feet.

Ravi takes a sharp breath. He spent his childhood in caves and darkness. While his eyes adjust well enough, his shoulders hunch protectively. He'd left the mountain behind all those years ago to be away from this sort of thing.
He touches two fingers to the iron medallion bound to the back of his hand, opening himself to Moradin's guidance.
"Aha, a useful trick, this one." Tovar remarks, his eyes watering slightly in the musty air and dim light. "Still, it is quite dark." He rummages in his satchel-bag, reaching a large hand deep into the mouth of the container. Finding what he seeks, he pulls out a torch and a tinderbox. "For to be waiting one moment, please." With deft, though large, fingers, he strikes flint on the handle of his well-worn axe, catching the spark on the oiled tip of the torch. Blowing lightly, he coaxes a pale flame from the torch, casting 20ft of bright light, and dim light for another 20. "Ah." he sighs, once his vision is better restored. "Now we may have our shadows for company, yes!? And whatever lives in these caves will see us quite before we may see it - but is better than catching boot on sharp rocks, I think."
He hefts his shield, replacing his axe at his side where it can be readied at a moment's notice, and looks around expectantly, ready for travel.
"Shall I go first, or are any of you more... brave."
Gunnar taps the metal boar at Tovar’s comment, “No reason to risk our lives here. My Gullinbursti model can lead the expedition further down the tunnels.” The boar trundles forward, “‘Wayland Arcanomechanics: Why Risk It? Buy Wayland.’” Gunnar looks pleased at the slogan.

Now that the group finally are able to see they continue down the hall pushing past the boulders and maybe 200 feet further down the hall you stumble across a crossroad. The way to the left is clearly blocked by rubble from when this tunnel collapsed, but the way forward and to the right are clear and pristine with not even a pebble on the ground. The way that continues straight ahead starts declining steadily right after the intersection.

Ravi swallows his discomfort and moves just outside the circle of Gunnar's light, leaving room for the others to see. "Did you get a closer look at that spine?" He whispers as they walk. "What manner of creature are we facing?"

Ravi smiles hugely and shakes his head. There's a sort of simple beauty in its ostentation.

“Some kind of spiked, tunnel dwelling thing.” Gunnar looks around, then frowns, “Kinda obvious though. Listen, I’m an artificer, not a druid.”
The Cycle does not arch an eyebrow back, since he has none.
"From what this one was able to see of the spine, it has found two things. One, these creatures seem to be the same size as us. Two, they seem to spend long periods underground. We should be careful."

"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
Ruby attempts to add something, but instead bright pink bubbles spew from her mouth "pop, pop, pop". She turns a deep crimson, glad for the relative darkness around them, and closes her mouth again, hoping nobody noticed her mishap.
As the group tread further and further down into the mountain the automatonic boar suddenly stops. The tunnel has completely collapsed in front of you, though you could probably clear it and climb over if you used some time moving the rocks and rubble. While standing there you also see a much smaller tunnel lead to the left. The tunnel looks freshly dug, straight through the hard stone. It is tall enough for you to walk through, but once again Tovar would probably have to hunch over and watch his head through the tunnel.

Tovar crouches by the freshly-cleared tunnel and peers down it, looking as far as the torchlight reaches. He sniffs, then steps back for others to take a look if they wish. (I assume he doesn't see anything apparently dangerous). "I am... unhappy to continue down this way. Combat in such a tight space - it will give advantage to the creature. Ruby again tries to speak, this time to agree with Tovar’s assessment. A solitary pink bubble, larger than the ones from her previous display, escapes her mouth this time... “pop!”
The half-elf stamps her foot in annoyance, clearly fed up with the affliction already. She points back up the incline the group just walked down, as if suggesting another route.
"Who here has keen eyes? I can offer Moradin's guidance," he holds up the hand with the laniard and iron disc, "and he will help you to find the path."
