As this conversation went by, unnoticed by Moira, the human's wanderings found her within sight of a group of what appeared to be rather bored teenagers. They seemed to be a mixture of human, elf, and half elf, but the one thing they all clearly had in common was they were obviously well off. There was no way to tell if they were Royals or Nobles, or simply belonging to wealthy families but their outfits were both clearly expensive and perfectly tailored to each of them. Even comparing to the outfits Moira had seen at the shop earlier that day it was obvious what these teenagers were wearing was of a far higher level of luxury. Though from the attitude they were projecting, one would be hard pressed to know if they even cared about that point.
Seeing a table of bored looking kids I head in that direction. “Hi. I’m Moira. You all look like you are having lots of fun.” I roll my eyes a bit and give a big fake yawn as I slump down next to them.
"Depends on who you're working for."One of the boys immediately shot back defensively, eyeing Moira carefully as she sat down.
"Don't be an ass Shwan."One of the girls spoke up towards him before looking back at Moira,"You'll have to forgive him. He means well. It's been a rough time for all of us these past few weeks."
"Well, at any rate, you've met Shwan, and now my sister Tirtyani. I am Sarliense. But please just call me Sarli, I know my name can be a mouthful."One of the older looking girls among the group spoke up next as she introduced everyone. Motioning next to the younger girl to her right,"This is Giennigre, or Ginger among friends. And finally the broody one over there is Kevin."
"Hello there!"the girl named Ginger piped up,"It's nice to meet you by the way. I love your dress."
“Thank you. They are my apprentice robes for the school I’m in. Want to see something funny?”I slide my wand from out of the sash at my waist. Pointing it at the two ladies I just escaped from I give it a small wave and a loud sound of flatulence erupts between the two women. I quickly tuck the wand away and give a look of shock in the direction of the women. Waiting a bit for any laughter or other reaction “But why would I be working for anyone?”
At the crude sound erupts around the bickering women both of them go deadly silent as they look around completely embarrassed. They remain in that utter quiet for a long time as though trying to determine who among them was truly responsible for that sound, never one thinking to check for outside involvement. Eventually they each left each others presence in a display of disgust as they absolutely refused to acknowledge what happened.
Back at the table the rest of the teens sitting alongside Moira begin laughing at the sight, trying their best to do so quietly without getting caught but still being very obvious to anyone watching them directly.
"Oh the gods that was hilarious!"Ginger nearly cried out with laughter.
"Oh Sura! I think I know that one. Pretty sure she works for my mom."Shwan commented looking a bit unsure of how much he should find the situation enjoyable.
"Well she deserved it after what she said about Enalie."Sarli added looking somewhat satisfied watching the womans' embarrassment.
"After a stunt like that I know for sure you're not working for anyone from her faction, otherwise she'd flay you alive once she found out." Tirtyani said to Moira, still laughing.
The laughter quieted down considerably, but didn't stop, when a solid hand gently grabbed Moira by her shoulder. Looking up a rather tall Royal Guard was looking down at her with a cold determination.
"Excuse me, my lady, the Royal Guard requests your presence to discuss the matter of your spellcasting on the castle grounds."The Royal Guard said with a surprisingly polite tone compared to her incredibly stern gaze.
"It's alright, you needn't concern yourself on this matter. This lady is our guest."Sarli spoke up quickly before anyone else, almost as if she expected this,"The spell in question is completely benign and of no threat to the guests or queen. I will personally vouch for her if that will calm your fears."
The Guard looked up at Sarli with a much softened gaze before removing her hand off Moira's shoulder,"Very well, My'Lady. Pardon the interruption then."Before she left she looked back at Moira and added,"Please do refrain from casting any spells within the castle for the duration of the gala. We would appreciate the consideration."Without another word the guard bowed and turned quickly before moving back to her post.
"Don't worry about them."Sarli then assured Moira,"They mean well and are very well trained by Konor, they have only the queen's safety in mind, you understand."

"Ah, Lord Hakon, thank you for the invitations, of course." Sora smiled through a forced smile that she made sure to look genuine. "Though it would have made our task much easier if you hadn't put your name to our invitations, as you can imagine it puts some on the defensive needlessly. Oh but where are my manners, allow me to make introductions." She motioned to Khorzik without ever taking her eyes off Hakon. "This is Lord Khorzik. He is in fact quite an asset in this matter." She then turned purposefully towards the elf woman, eyeing her carefully while trying to hide the fact and instead providing the most upscale polite facade she could manage. "And do I have the pleasure of your introduction?"
"Who is this person speaking with Sora and Khorz?"
Kal watches the interaction with interest. The man seems a standard noble, attitude and all. The woman is more intriguing. Nearly unsettling with her black eyes. The 'body guard' does his best to remain impassive and does not continue to look in the direction of Khorz and Sora. Instead he waits impatiently for a reply from 9 to the identity of these conversational combatants.
Sitting back down with a look of utter embarrassment on my now bright red face. “Thank you Sarli! That really was foolish of me. I didn’t even think about magic being restricted here. Ugh, Mother always said I needed to learn to look before I leap. Wait who would flay me alive?”
Lynn-Marie is filled with a mixture of exhilaration and panic as she first enters the gala, then moves her way through the crowd. She almost feels like a fraud, moving in noble and royal circles like this with nothing to go on but her father's business. In fact, she realizes with a sense of dread, this is the first large celebration that she has gone to without at least her brother to depend on.
Keeping a pleasant smile plastered on her face, she is happy to let Kal guide her around the place as he does his investigative work, exchanging only passing pleasantries with the nobles and royals as they walk past. A bit of red colours her cheeks as she excuses herself from Kal to move towards the noble Sora and Khorz are in conversation with, remembering that she had, if not explicitly, promised the group that she is an adept at these social occasions. Suddenly her mother's voice speaks in her mind, memories coming back to her, "Just stay calm, sweetie. You've seen your father and me speak with these people countless times. Pretend you are a natural wonder to earn their respect, remember that everything is just wonderful, and always be doubly respectful, but don't be afraid to lie through your teeth to get what you want. They are used to it."
Without even a moment to steady her nerves she arrives to stand next to Sora, heart beating in her throat, but able to gently place a hand on Sora's arm."Ah, Sora, here you are." she says, no guile in the slight relief on her face. She turns to face the lord, holding out her hand as she gives a slight curtsy, "I do not believe we have yet had the pleasure. Lynn-Marie Verine-Wintercleaver, of the Wintercleavers down in Salvon. Wife to the esteemed Verine, down in Angel's Cove."

I'm actually a cleric by profession, a follower of the Harvest Watcher. I am very passionate about that. He looks around. I don't really think there are many people here who would want to talk about it though, at least not here and now. I did consider standing up on one of the tables and attempting to preach a sermon on the topic of humility and modesty in consumption. I would find that entertaining, though I'm not sure anyone else would. Still, this is my first big party, and I probably shouldn't get myself thrown out in the first hour. Count Hakon probably wouldn't like it either, since he invited us. Or Duke? I can't remember which one is his real title and which one is his silly wannabe title. Have you ever met him?

Khorzik has been nodding and smiling to the noble, attempting to mimic someone who understands little of the language but wants to be polite. When prompted with questions, he responds in heavily goblin-accented common, "Yes!", regardless of the question. When Lynn-Marie approaches ad takes charge of the situation he is content to step back from the immediate conversation circle. He watches the noble and dark-clad elf carefully, attempting to gauge their intentions, but well-aware he is way out of league when dealing with these situations.

Some bad witch and our hirer. Tell everyone that whoever she is, it is most probably what needs to be eradicated. (Message answer)
9 hisses and puts her palms in her eye in pain. She then tries to remember the vision given to her, and concentrates on the image of the castle. She starts moving towards Sora and Duke with steady steps, her hand reaching for the whip on her belt. She could hear the words of the prayer that she used to kill the snake being uttered by her, as she abruptly stopped, shaking her head a little. 9 looked around for a moment, the moments of determined instinct of extermination washing over her. She moved closer to the Elven woman talking with Sora and Lynn, her eye still cold with contempt and disgust, ”Who are you?”, she didn’t have time for pleasantries. Lady has not been wrong so far, but a move needs to be smart. Her voice sounded even harsher than usual, almost too hard to hear. Her hands were idly crossed but ready to move.

Kal bows respectfully to Lynn as she makes her move on the conversation with the Duke. He proceeds to still be within earshot but decidedly out of the circle of conversation. Mostly becoming a statue like the Royal Guard, blending in with the decor. He relays the message from 9 to all, "Whoever this elf with the duke is, it is probably what needs to be eradicated. From 9."
As he stands at a nearby column Kal does his best not to reach toward his weapon. More of an anxious habit of keeping his hand at the hilt of a sword. Regardless he eavesdrops on the conversation with the Duke.

Thinking back to Kal "Be careful. Rash actions will not go over well. Trust me." Then turning back to the teens "What can you tell me about Harkon and the elven woman with him?"
"That is the Duchess Delphenne. One of the Royals trying to force their way onto the throne these days."Tirtyani answered Moira.
"Traitors."Kevin suddenly spoke up, perhaps because he didn't speak much, his single word seemed to carry a great deal of weight in its tone.
"Yeah, that's what they should all be called if you ask me."Shwan added,"Can't even let a friend mourn before trying to take all the power for themselves. They're just the worst!"
"If that had been the end of it then it would almost be expected of such bottom feeders."Sarli added,"But to also accuse our dear friend of being the murderer was just cruel."
At Moira's second question Tirtyani just shrugged,"You mean that Count who loves to call himself a Duke like he's overcompensating for something? The man's a blowhard. And an absolute jerk. It's no secret he's got Royalty envy and would do anything to get more power and money. He's also one of the traitors calling the queen a murderer. Doubt he really gives a crap if it's true, just another lowlife taking advantage of the situation to try to grab more power for himself. We try to avoid him as much as possible."
"Yeah, he's super mean. He said terrible things about Enalie." Ginger said looking clearly upset by the thought,"Enalie's the nicest person in the world! Her mom was kind and gentle and Enalie loved her very much! There's no way she could ever do ..."
"It's alright Ginger, we all know the truth, that's what matters."Shwan added, comforting his friend.
"As for the woman with him." Sarli continued,"I've heard she's from one of the Elven Houses of Glyphwood. She's been here a few weeks on business from what I understand. I don't know anything about her, other then I don't really like her. Honestly it does you no good to associate with people like that."
"Oh a farm priest eh?" Krin continued talking to Witt during this time,"Oh I don't mean to offend, it's just we don't really get folks like you around here very much. Tarrin isn't exactly known for its abundance of farmland, unlike the southern kingdoms. As funny as it might be to see you preaching on top of a table, I wouldn't recommend it, you'd be literally preaching to the wrong crowd and honestly most likely get ignored while one of the guards asked you to stop. I've never met the Count personally, but I've heard plenty about him. None of it good, I'm afraid. Seems he likes being called Duke on account of his ego, but Count is the correct title. Honestly you seem far too nice a person to be working for a man like that. I feel sorry for whatever circumstances put you in that predicament." Looking over Witt's shoulder she adds,"In fact I see the man right over there talking to those people. I imagine they're all up to some shady business or another."
At the place where Krin was looking at the self proclaimed Duke stood before the rest of the party along with his elven companion. To some it was clear they were playing the sort of games one plays when dealing with people of such high social standing. However both of these people were very practiced liars, so if there was anything more to their intentions, it proved impossible to read.
Only 9, spurred on by the Lady's blessings, was able to see things a bit more clearly, but only when it came to the elf woman that she was now focused on. There was no doubt that there was a darkness about this woman, but its exact nature was well and deliberately hidden. Whatever her true purpose she was playing a game, and one on a larger scale then even the so called Duke next to her probably realized. Even now 9 was certain this woman was trying to move pieces to her advantage.
She stood firm and undaunted in the face of 9's abrupt question replying with the confidence of someone who was winning this deadly game they played,"Of course, do forgive me for failing to introduce myself earlier. However I dare say you needn't be so brash about it my dear. One might get the impression you are being rude. And in this place it does you no good to be rude to such powerful people." a smile slithered across her lips as she introduces herself, "I am Lady Linthe, Alta'Selde'Huo of the Great House of Eru'Dar of Lynansera. I come here on behalf of the interests of several of the Great Houses of Glyphwood as their representative."
Oh, I don't mind being called a farm priest, says Witt, given that that's what I am and all. He looks at the Count and shakes his head. Such foolishness. And not a very good judge of character. He wants us to investigate the death of the former queen, by which I mean he's decided who he wants to be guilty and he hopes we will find evidence to support his conclusion. Really, a very poor judge of character to have asked that of my friends. He looks at Krin, wondering if she is shocked or unhappy to hear him speak of such things: Insight17
9 gives the elf her coldest and the most unaffectionate look with her eye, “Slithering scum. I killed a snake couple of days back. Getting used to it.”, she says just loud enough for the elf to hear, and for a moment her voice seemed very clear before it returned to its usual raspiness. She tugs Sora by her elbow attempting to pull her aside. “We need to talk. Now.”
After this 9 just moves back to her previous place, and waits for Sora to join her. She could feel the ligh tingling in her echoing through her body. The pleasant feeling was one of few she experienced in past few years. She almost felt alive again, if she would remember how that feels.

Looking at the group a bit stunned Moira leans forward a little and pitches her voice a bit lower. "Thank you. I feel like you all have been more open and straight forward than I have come to expect from other folks who are here. I would like to give you the same but please hear me out. I was hired to come here, along with my friends. We are here to investigate the murder of the previous queen. We were hired by Harkon. He does seem to think the current queen is behind it, though we also have reason to believe that even if he knew she wasn't he would still be pressuring her. We made sure we were clear to him that we cared not for what his theory was and planned only on finding the truth. We have good reason to not trust Harkon and know that he is conspiring with someone to some other ends. My loyalty is not to him only to find what really happened. I believe you that the Queen, did you call her Enalie, is no to blame. But we are unfamiliar with all the people and motives surrounding the throne here. And I don't know why yet but one of my friends says that woman from Glyphwood is a dire threat. Would you help me to find the truth and help your friend?"
"Do excuse us if you feel our manner is more brutish then your soft heart can handle." Sora told Linthe after seeing her introduce herself, she turned to the Duke and added, "However we are here working on your behalf, and we take our work very seriously." She looked back at Linthe and bowed ever so slightly at her, "Lady Sorath, by the way, lest you think we are completely devoid of manners." By then 9 had asked to pull her away to which she nodded in response. "I hate to cut our introductions short, but in this sort of work time is of the essence, so I will leave you to enjoy the party."
Without waiting for a response Sora turned and walked back to where 9 was waiting, happy to leave the presence of the dastardly pair behind with the rest of the group.
"By all the abandoned gods I hate that ******* ***** already." Sora said back to her normal tone that 9 was much more used to, "So what'd you wanna talk about?"
"Oh why do you say that?"Krin asks Witt. It's a simple question but there is loads of curiosity behind it. Witt can tell that while Krin clearly thinks little of Hakon and people like him, she understands that being a professional means sometimes having to work for people you don't like. What matters is keeping one's integrity, and at the moment she seems to be liking the integrity that Witt has been showing her.
Meanwhile elsewhere in the ballroom...
The teenagers around the table suddenly seem very defensive when Moira admits to being hired by Hakon. Yet her the skillful sincerity of her words manage to put them at ease and it's clear that they are willing to listen to what Moira is offering them. At first they all spent a few moments just looking at each other before finally turning their attention back at Moira.
"Allow me to be clear about this first."Sarli began,"You mean to tell us you were hire but that distasteful Count to gather some evidence showing Enalie was guilty, but instead you now wish to find proof of Enalie's innocence?"
"Don't get us wrong, we'd love to help,"Shwan continued,"But what you're saying sounds a little too good to be true."
"Yeah, I wouldn't put it past any of these jerks to use Enalie's own friends against her." Tirtyani added,"Honestly you wouldn't even be the first to try it."

"As for the woman with him." Sarli continued, "I've heard she's from one of the Elven Houses of Glyphwood. She's been here a few weeks on business from what I understand. I don't know anything about her, other then I don't really like her. Honestly it does you no good to associate with people like that."
"Oh a farm priest eh?" Krin continued talking to Witt during this time, "Oh I don't mean to offend, it's just we don't really get folks like you around here very much. I feel sorry for whatever circumstances put you in that predicament." Looking over Witt's shoulder she adds, "In fact I see the man right over there talking to those people.
She stood firm and undaunted in the face of 9's abrupt question replying with the confidence of someone who was winning this deadly game they played, "Of course, do forgive me for failing to introduce myself earlier.

He looks at Krin, wondering if she is shocked or unhappy to hear him speak of such things: Insight 17

Moira

"Oh why do you say that?" Krin asks Witt.
"Allow me to be clear about this first." Sarli began, "You mean to tell us you were hire but that distasteful Count to gather some evidence showing Enalie was guilty, but instead you now wish to find proof of Enalie's innocence?"
"Don't get us wrong, we'd love to help," Shwan continued, "But what you're saying sounds a little too good to be true."
"Yeah, I wouldn't put it past any of these jerks to use Enalie's own friends against her." Tirtyani added, "Honestly you wouldn't even be the first to try it."
