”That snake over there is what we are here for. She is the center where all strings lead to. She thinks she is just playing with us. She has a hand in what happened to the Queen if she isn’t fully responsible for it. Trust me, my instincts rarely lie to me. And it’s not just instincts. I think we should... eradicate her as quickly as possible. These type of things grow fast if you don’t cut them down quick enough. We don’t even need to go in the castle.”, her tone also returns to more of a usual one, although she speaks kind of feverishly and quickly, making it hard to understand her clearly.
” If we don’t want to put others at risk, I don’t if we’d be able to do it, but maybe 2 of us would be enough to deal with the problem. That way others can help us if we get arrested or something along those lines. You ever been captured?”
"He attempted to hire us gather evidence toward that end. However we insisted that we would take a job only to find out the truth of the late queen's death and not against someone specifically. He agreed, though I discovered after our meeting that he was still hoping to use our investigation to put pressure on her. And that he was conspiring with another. I over heard them through my familiar. My group does not care for Harkon or his schemes. We really just want to help. I had hoped to work with what ever investigation the Queen already had underway and offer our services to them as well. Everyone we have spoken to seems to have truly liked the late Queen, even Harkon, it would be a great tragedy if those responsible for her death never faced justice. And my friend, a servant of the Lady Death, seems to think that the elf woman was responsible. You mentioned another traitor. Could you tell me of them? Or anything you might know about what happened to your friend's mother?"
Sora listened carefully at what 9 had to say, nodding in agreement, but she knew they would have to tread carefully here. "I believe you. But we have to do this carefully."She looked around for a moment to make sure they weren't being overhead the looked back at 9, placing a hand on her shoulder as she spoke to her sincerely, "Listen, you remember I mentioned I was looking for someone up here. Well it turns out she's the person I'm looking for. She's not the high elf noble she claims to be but a fugitive of Lynansera. In fact she's wanted to several crimes, including murder, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was in fact directly responsible for the queen's death. But here's the thing, these high and mighty ******** like to work with different rules than everyone else. We can't just go and kill her outright. We need to prove she's guilty, or at least dump enough suspicion on her that they won't care if we kill her. Anything less and the entire kingdom will see *us* as the criminals and hunt us down. Probably even put a bounty on all our heads. Something I know a lot about, trust me. Hell even the people that hired me in Lynansera only did so because they couldn't go after her publicly due to political bullshit. If we get caught now there won't be any support from them and we'll be left to hang on our own." She pauses as she thinks about the various options they can take from here, "Look I still wanna try to go into the castle and hopefully find some kind of evidence. If you want you can stay out here and watch that woman. Either way, now we have a target, now we got our prime suspect, just gotta find some proof and we can do what ever you want with her."
Khorzik watches as most of his new companions break away and converse privately. He looks to Kal expecting instructions or new information via his message ability and shrugs. Unsure of what the new plan has become, Khorzik makes a point to keep the strange elven woman within eyesight. His makes no attempt to disguise his actions, and does not care if she notices him always being near.

Lynn- You've started to notice something. As you've watched Sora handle herself among high society despite clearly being someone who much prefers sticking with the common folk. At first you were impressed with her skills bargaining back at the shop. You were perhaps impressed with her deliberate behavior when you all first arrived at the gala. But now you're starting to notice a pattern. And if you didn't know better you would be certain that Sora has had some level of experience with this level of society beyond what you first imagined when you met her. Nothing to the level of your own life's worth of experiences, but definitely enough that it's now caught your attention.
"Well."Linthe finally spoke up after a brief moment of awkward stares,"You certainly did hire an ... uncanny collection of mercenaries for your little project my dear Duke."
"You know how these things go, my love."Hakon smiled, smoothly playing off the entire encounter without a care in the world."Different tasks require different tools. And one must always choose the best tool for the job, not the prettiest."
"Of course, I don't doubt you."Linthe replied before looking over at the rest of the gathered party around them,"I simply hope that such uncouth behavior doesn't negatively rub off on all of you. Not everyone can be so forgiving of such open transgressions, especially at such a public event."
Meanwhile....
The teenagers at Moira's table were quietly looking at each other as the gravity of Moira's words weighed down on all of them. For a moment it seemed like they didn't even know who should speak up.
"It's not like there's only one traitor." Shwan broke the silence, the passion clearly sounding in his voice,"Lots of people are just taking advantage of the situation and just making an ass of themselves. Duchess Delphenne is just one out of many rats. But honestly those are the minority. Hell my parents aren't even Royals, but a proud line of nobles who love this kingdom. They have the decency to not abuse all the trouble that Enalie's been through. Even so the traitors like being loud about their accusations. And pretty soon it's what everyone's been talking about, even if it's nothing but lies and rumors. No one's been able to prove that Enalie did any of the terrible things they claim she did. But somehow they want us to prove that she didn't to any of them. That's just stupid if you ask me. You can't prove something doesn't exist when it's all a lie to begin with."
"Enalie's Innocent."Kevin says again, with a shocking level of conviction in his eyes as he speaks.
"Exactly. Look, the only thing anyone knows for certain was that Queen Illia died and no one knows how."Shwan continued without missing a beat, "In fact if there's one thing everyone agrees on is that she was probably assassinated because literally nothing would explain her death. But who or why? We have no idea. Honestly, if you suspect this woman from Glyphwood is responsible then you probably have more of a lead then we do."
At that moment the large doors behind the Royal dais opened and almost everyone in the gala looked up to see if the Queen had arrived. However most of the party quickly went back to their own conversations when they realized that it was not the Queen but rather a very tall goliath making his way into the ballroom from within the castle. To stay this man was huge would be an understatement. Even compared to other goliath he seemed very tall, there was no hiding the thickness of his heavily muscled body, and he didn't really bother to. Yes interestingly enough he was attired in very highly fashionable attire, very high end, very expensive, and perfectly tailored to his massive frame. It seems like something that shouldn't work and yet it seemed to fit him perfectly. He portrayed a strange dual sense of both immense power and intimidation, as well as quality fashion and refinement. To add to this look he had strapped to his back a massive greatsword, oversized to his huge dimensions, but also finely crafted to be equal parts deadly weapon and work of art. It was as if everything about this man was built to project an aura of highly refined intimidation.
The goliath took one look at the royal announcer, motioning him to ensure he did not try to present him publicly while also making sure he was ready none-the-less. Afterward he walked down the long flight of stairs from the doorway to the dais and stood stoically next to the central chair, awaiting the queen.
"It seems Konor's arrived,"Sarli said as she stood up and looked over to the same entrance the goliath had just stepped out of, "Enalie should be coming out soon then."
Almost as if on que, a soft trumpet chorus began to play as the large doorways opened. Immediately at that point the Royal announcer began to call out the introduction.
"To all the Gentlepersons gathered here this evening, this Royal House officially Welcomes you all to this years Season's End Royal Gala. And now allow me to introduce your Host, her Royal Highness, Queen Enalie Sofina, Queen Regent of the Kingdom of Tarrin. Long May She Reign."
As the announcer spoke a beautiful half-elven woman stepped out into the room and calmly, graciously, took one elegant step after another as she made her way to the Dais below. She wore a white and golden dress that matched perfectly with her blonde hair. Stiched into her dress was a series of what appeared to be diamonds marking a starry flower pattern all across her outfit. However unlike other outfits at the gala, this one had each gem carefully balanced so it would add to the beauty of the dress without seeming garish. She wore a matching diamond necklace and long silk gloves, as well as jewelry on her ears that accented, rather then hid, the shape of her half-elven features.
As she reached the bottom of the stairs she looked around the gathered people of the gala with her bright green eyes before simply giving everyone a formal bow. With a nod to the goliath next to her, whose giant size made her look positively tiny by comparison, she moved to take her seat. The goliath in question made sure to assist the queen with her seat before he also took a seat next to her.
"Wow she really does look a lot like her mom, huh?"Ginger commented as she stood looking up at the queen along with everyone else.
Afterwards a few other members of the royal family, mainly aunts and uncles from what you gathered of the names being announced, also stepped down the stairway and joined the queen at her table.
When Konor enters “That’s Konor? I can see why Hakron is so worried about him.” In the brief wait before the queen enters Moira tries to get the others attention and signal them over, and relaying to Kal that she has found the group some allies. Stopping as the queen arrives. “My word she is beautiful.” Seemingly having forgotten her purpose for the moment. “Who’d have thought a leather worker’s daughter from a tiny village at a royal ball with a queen. This is....” Trailing off she just stares at the monarch for a moment then remembers herself. Turning back to the group once again her face a dazzling shade of red “I’m sorry. That is embarrassing. I just... I’ve never... It was...”She falls silent not knowing what to say to make this less awkward.

Being a relay station for the party's communication has done a good job at allowing Kal play a passive part. That coupled with his 'no need to look twice' body guard routine has helped him stay out of the main attention of most. But it is constant work cycling messages between party members! The routine is becoming easier as he gains a rhythm but sudden the communications pause. Maybe not noticeably yet, but Kal is certainly enamored.
The Queen's presence sweeps over him like warm spring winds. Spurring almost whimsical energy. Under his cowl a slight smile slides easily into place. His normally stern and disciplined expressions giving way for ones of joy and enthusiasm. If he had not been wearing such complete coverings the moment would have been significantly more noticeable. His pale skin painting itself with color with each heartbeat, from dull grey-blue to rich gold with hints of green accent. His hair making a similar shift from blackish blue to green ending in gold. His dimly glowing grey eyes would be the most overtly obvious as they now burned a bright emerald.
Lynn-Marie's eyes widen when the half-giant enters the gala, subconsciously glancing at Kal immediately to judge her distance to her 'bodyguard' with the arrival of the imposing threat. When the Queen enters afterwards she takes the distraction to move away from Hakon, rejoining with Kal. The messages relayed from 9 made it seem prudent to not be too associated with Hakon and the Elven lady at this time, and besides, she would not find out about meeting with the Queen from him.
She takes one look at Kal, catching sight of the bright emerald eyes, before she turns away from him, too. "Nope. That'll draw attention if anybody sees it. My goodness, this party is a minefield." Suppressing a shiver, she decides to simply ask one of the guards. It's one of the least harmful people to talk to now, amongst all this. At least, according to her perspective. "Sir?" she begins, "I apologize, I'm new in town and well... Ah, what I mean to ask is, whom do I speak to to gain an audience with the queen? I wish to talk business with her, you see."
Nemeia, who had been stuffing her face with the fancy treats that floated around the room on platters, looks up in awe at the grace and beauty of the queen. She'd made a point to attempt to talk with people regarding their mission but found the small treats too distracting. She didn't make note to attempt to find her artificer friend at some point in the evening to see if she was having as dreadful of a time as she acted like she would.
For now though, she was enamored with the entrance of the queen. Her guard looked to be the type that could easily slay an adversary. Nemeia tried to recall if she had heard how the queen had died. Were it an assault or had she quickly fell ill due? She grabs another treat from a passing tray and turns back toward the Duke and the elvan woman.
"Thank you for inviting us to this gala. The food is delicious!,"she says with a few bites still left in her mouth. She swallows what's left and looks to the elvan woman. "My name is Nemeia. It's great to meet you. I haven't been to many galas like this. Are there any protocols that I should know so that I don't embarrass myself and by extension you since I'm your guest?," she asks the Duke.
There was a subtle look of shock that played across the queen's face for a moment, but she quickly regained composure before most of the gathered guests could even notice, if any. Instead she leaned over and motioned to Konor next to her. As the giant goliath leaned in close to the queen she whispered something to him, being careful to cover her mouth with her elegantly gloved hand as she spoke. In response a serious frown formed against Konor's face before he nodded to his queen, then immediately turned and motioned for a nearby guard to approach. This time the goliath quietly issues the guard several orders, who in turn bowed back to him before returning to their post where they quickly began to spread those orders to the rest of the royal guard within the ballroom. All the while the goliath scanned the room carefully as he searched for potential threats.
Sora- As you were watching her during this time, you managed to catch the queen's shock, but you're not sure the cause of it. However you did notice that she let her stoic facade drop just barely for that instant. In that time one thing you know for certain, as someone who has met actual murderers before, this was no murderer. If anything, despite all the wealth, power, and prestige she held as the current queen, in that moment she looked more like one of the scared children you remember from your time in the orphanage.
Never the less the party continued. Though the royal guard was now much more on edge. Even so they maintained proper protocol for the evening. Thus the guard that Lynn approached, while looking sternly at her, still listened calmly to her request."We welcome you to Tarrin, my lady. I'm sorry to inform you, but that will be impossible tonight. I have been told that her majesty the Queen will not be taking any audiences tonight. There are security concerns."
Meanwhile Hakon and Linthe appeared to be distracted by Nemeia at the moment and didn't seem to notice anything just yet. Duke Hakon just smiled at Nemeia's questions as though amused, or perhaps satisfied, by the groups overall antics."Not to worry my dear. Just enjoy this celebration as you would any other. Trust me, you're all doing wonderfully. Besides, it's not as if anyone will be expecting much of a high standard from your behavior. So you have nothing to concern yourself with."
Nemeia takes the statement as a compliment and nods with understanding. It was true that she was born into a crafting family in a crafting town. The types of celebrations they held were very different than the games that seemed to be at play here, but Nemeia decided that she would enjoy her time here while she could. It was only a matter of time before her companions would surely cause some sort of stir and cause the lot of them to be removed.
"You're right," she says in response. "I have someone I was meaning to talk to at the party actually. If you'll excuse me." She does her best to curtsy but it's all sorts of rehearsed theater that she imagined noble people would do. She then heads off to find her artificer companion hoping to see if her time was a dreadful as she expected.
Nemeia would casually look to the queen as she made her way through the gathering trying to get a better idea of what the lady was like behind all the fancy clothes and jewels. Nemeia did her best try and not assume too much based on a person's appearance, but the Queen's clothing made the tiefling think the two of them were worlds apart.
Finally pulling herself back together Moira turns to the group of friends "Would you be able to inform the Queen of what I have told you. Let her know that we hope to do the right thing and that she should be weary of the elf with Hakon? If she would like to meet with us we will. If not at least she will know then."
Oh, well, says Witt, as soon as it was clear that Hakon's motives were selfish, the others in my party became quite determined, I think, to bring the man's own misdeeds into the light, as well as the truth of this crime. My friends are fierce warriors for truth and justice, he says smiling, and then hesitates. I'm not sure they all know it yet, or would agree with my characterisation of them, but, well, that's what faith is for. And I have a great deal of it.
Witt looks over at the queen. I suppose I didn't realise how young she is, though I'm sure someone mentioned it. He's not really close enough to get much sense of her, so he shrugs and turns back to Krin. Do you know her?
"Should I be concerned? Is there an assassin on the prowl?" Lynn-Marie responds, slightly annoyed at the closed window of opportunity for the evening, but also worried about her own safety. It is very a very rare occasion that a noble or royal party ends in a bloodbath, but not entirely unheard of, certainly this soon after a moment of transition.
After carefully watching the Queen enter, and seeing her sudden alert reaction, Sora decided she had to push forward and find out the truth. She looked back at 9 with a face filled with determination.
"Look, we may not have another chance to get into the castle after tonight. So I'm going in. I'm willing to go alone if it means keeping the risk low for everyone else. So, let's not start a fight just yet. We wanna kill the right bad guys after all."
After that she would move to get Kal's attention, given his current distracted state, she would moved next to him, poking him in the arm to get his attention if she had to. "Hey, Let everyone know I'm going in, in case anyone else wanted to join me. I'll need someone to distract the guard we showed you earlier."
After that she would move over to the servant's door they had scouted earlier. Far enough away that she wouldn't look suspicious or too interested - particularly given the high alert the guards seem to be in lately - but also close enough that she'll be able to reach the door quickly the second the opportunity arises.
"I'll get the message to her." Sarli offered to Moira, "But I make no guarantee that anything will come of it. Right now is a stressful time for the Royal family."
"Know the Queen? I wish!"Krin chuckled as she smiled back at Witt,"Would be nice wouldn't it? But I'm afraid the only dealings I've ever had with the throne is through their servants delivering commission requests or repair orders."She looked over at the queen for a moment before turning back to Witt,"I gotta say, your friends sound interesting. Not many folks around here would try to play against the 'Duke'. Gods know this whole bloody situation could use a good shot of truth and justice."
"There is nothing to be alarmed by, my lady." The guard assured Lynn,"Merely a necessary precaution. I can promise you we are doing everything possible to ensure everyone at the gala has a pleasant and safe evening."
Khorzik begins moving upon hearing Sora's message to Kal. He tries to find a spot secluded enough to cast a quick incantation. He gestures quickly, drinks a small vial, and mutters under his breath. His appearance shifts to match one of the servants as he casts disguise self. Khorzik now appears as a medium build human man with a bald head. He then picks up a tray of tiny boiled eggs, cut in half and sprinkled with a blue powder and casts prestidigitation to make them smell rancid. He walks towards the door as Sora gets closer and approaches the guard. "Um, really sorry, sir." He lowers his voice to a whisper. "I think these are bad, right?"
Kal furrows his brow as he see the sudden call to action. It takes him a moment, in his current state his actions were certainly just if not reserved! He should be singing, lute in hand, serenading. Letting all at the gala blossom like fresh growth under the energy of new beginnings. His rational side is able to reign a little of the happenings to light and his expression relaxes again. She is smart as well as beautiful to heed caution at his sudden call. This time with the same subtle casting and understanding of the wards that would thwart his message he speak again. Being mindful of his proximity to the guard.
To the Queen:
"I respect your caution, just know that you have allies here that seek to clear your name. We need simply a place to start."
Kal moves back into stride with Lynn-Marie though there is more of a stroll in his gait at this point.
Nemeia wanders through the crowd attempting to find Krin. She knew she didn't have a lot of time to waste, but wanted to at least extend the professional courtesy those in the trade afforded each other. It felt odd walking in such a room in such an elegant gown. She'd spent most of her life in attire more appropriate for a workshop and the clothes just made her feel even more of an imposter here. They were nice though. She made special note to make sure that they aren't damaged in any dealings she may encounter. It would be quite the waste to ruin such fine fabrics with such limited use.
She began to wonder what her father would think of his daughter being at a gala with the queen. He would probably think it was nonsense as the tiefling had never shown any interest in politics. A part of him would surely be proud that she'd be considered important enough to be invited here even though the pretenses were less than honorable it would seem. The death of the queen that Nemeia never knew much about was the task she was to investigate. That was something she was rather good at. She just needed to find some clues. She didn't know the cause of death or even the location. Those two key pieces of information would great help in her search. She made note to inquire that information from someone it would not offend.
She watches as the other members of her party move to the service entrance. Things must be underway. She decides now may not be the best time to talk shop with Krin and instead decides to talk to one of the guards that separated the queen from the other guest.
"Hello. My name is Nemeia. May I please speak with her Grace?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sora was prepared to move in any second but she wasn't getting any confirmations from anyone. Looking back it seemed like Kal might have his attention still on the queen and not anyone else. With an annoyed grunt she walked to Kal and punched him in the shoulder to get his attention. "Hey! Focus! We need you to keep everyone informed so get those messages out to everyone." From there she returned to her spot, looking around to make sure no one was paying too much attention to her.
As soon as she saw the guard being distracted by a server with an egg plater she decided it was her best chance and made her move, walking quickly but casually to the door and moving past it like she belonged there. It was amazing how many doors you could get past on confidence alone.
She would make sure to close the door behind her if no one else followed in order to reduce the risk to everyone else in the group.

"Wow she really does look a lot like her mom, huh?" Ginger commented as she stood looking up at the queen along with everyone else.
Afterwards a few other members of the royal family, mainly aunts and uncles from what you gathered of the names being announced, also stepped down the stairway and joined the queen at her table.

Moira
Kal messages the Queen...
"My apologies for the intrusion but I'm beholden, your beauty is nearly beyond compare. Only distorted from perfection by the distance between us."
Kal's posture shifts slightly as he leans into the wall rather than stand rigidly in front it.

My goodness, this party is a minefield."
Suppressing a shiver, she decides to simply ask one of the guards.

The food is delicious!," she says with a few bites still left in her mouth.
Sora - As you were watching her during this time, you managed to catch the queen's shock, but you're not sure the cause of it.
Thus the guard that Lynn approached, while looking sternly at her, still listened calmly to her request. "We welcome you to Tarrin, my lady.
Duke Hakon just smiled at Nemeia's questions as though amused, or perhaps satisfied, by the groups overall antics. "Not to worry my dear. Just enjoy this celebration as you would any other. Trust me, you're all doing wonderfully. Besides, it's not as if anyone will be expecting much of a high standard from your behavior. So you have nothing to concern yourself with."
Sylnache Ashrain - 7th Sojourn
Moira

I wish!" Krin chuckled as she smiled back at Witt, "Would be nice wouldn't it? But I'm afraid the only dealings I've ever had with the throne is through their servants delivering commission requests or repair orders." She looked over at the queen for a moment before turning back to Witt, "I gotta say, your friends sound interesting. Not many folks around here would try to play against the 'Duke'. Gods know this whole bloody situation could use a good shot of truth and justice."
"There is nothing to be alarmed by, my lady." The guard assured Lynn, "Merely a necessary precaution.
