Zelra will pick up a stack of arrows (20 for 1gp I think) and a disguise kit before trying to get into contact with Chaab and taking on any jobs he may have for her. If he has nothing for her or if she has some time left, she'll head for the fighting pit after hearing of Uragum's success. After all is said and done she will...
quickly head to the Havenstone Estate and drop off another 20 gold. This time, however, she'll try and speak to a maid or guard about anything that may be going on with the family. When she does, she'll try to use the disguise kit to make herself look different. In comparison to her usual inconspicuous appearance, she'll try to make herself look incredibly outlandish and speak like a housewife looking for some juicy gossip.
Arnald will look around for a Wizard to sell him more ritual spells that he can add to his spellbook. Any free time he has left he will spend teaching people the great art of archery
You find moderate success in the pit, winning a couple of early bouts. In fact, the only fight you find difficult is a rematch with the tough half-orc you managed to beat in your last visit. The gamblers are abuzz, and the match is touted as the headliner. The match brings the place to life. There is more of an audience this time around, and raucous cheers greet every punch. This time, however, the half-orc proves the victor.
OOC: Removed 5 gp for living expenses and added 100 gp in match winnings to Uragum's inventory.
OLA:
Brother Keefe speaks to you of the tenets of the Lords' Alliance upon your induction. "The best defense is a strong offense. As an organization, we do not wait when troubles arise; we strike swiftly, and aim to remove the head from the enemy before it can speak its orders to its hands. Glory comes from protecting one's home and honoring its leaders. As such, if civilization is to survive, all must unite against the dark forces that threaten it. This is the core tenet of the Lords' Alliance. We have many powerful leaders within our ranks, all with their own individual goals and desires. But when darkness threatens our lands, we unite with a singular cause."
He places a hand upon your shoulder and says, "It pleases me to add a strong paladin to our ranks. There is much to do in Phlan, and you will find no shortage of work with us. Welcome, Cloak Ola, to the Lords' Alliance."
OOC: Removed 1gp for living expenses from Ola's inventory for the first day. The rest is covered by your work at the temple.
SYLYRA:
Survival:22
You learn from those at The Laughing Goblin that Olisara is out of town for business, but is expected to return within the tenday.
At the Tea Kettle, Grelinda is serving tables when you, Arnald, and Zelra are gathered in the common room, preparing to relax with a bottle of wine. She scowls at your questioning, but responds, "Would you enjoy working with your family every day of your life, hoping for something more exciting than directing strangers to adventurers seeking work? You want to know my life story, you're going to have to share that bottle with me, half-elf."
Outside of Phlan, your search is made difficult by the town's pact with the nearby Quivering Forest: In return for protection from the forest fey, the citizens of Phlan and the surrounding villages are strictly forbidden from traversing the woods. You do, however, find signs of wolves' passing in smaller woods outside of town, confirming that there are wolves housed somewhere nearby.
OOC: Removed 5 gp for living expenses from Sylyra's inventory.
RUIK:
Intelligence (+ proficiency with smith's tools):8 DM Roll: 22
Your experience smithing is much desired in Phlan, but it takes time to find a respectable blacksmith in the still-unfamiliar town. By the end of the week, however, you find a smith in need of a couple days off. You recoup some of your expenses for the week and have found a source of steady modest income for any future downtime.
OOC: Removed 4 gp for living expenses from Ruik's inventory.
Chaab does not have any jobs for you yet, but reassures you that he will have something for you and to keep checking in.
As a new entrant in Phlan's fighting pit, you find your first few bouts quite easy, but the difficulty increases throughout the week as those that run the arena get a bearing for your skill. You only lose a single fight, and recover just in time to watch Uragum in the headline fight and his narrow loss to a brutish half-orc.
For Zelra:
You find the Havenstones quite pleased with your efforts to repay them thus far. Using a quick disguise, you learn that the employed maids of the house seem to believe the Havenstones may be looking to leave Phlan soon. The feeling around the house is that Phlan's best days are behind it, and the heads of the family believe that better fortunes may be found elsewhere.
OOC: Added 20 arrows and 94 gp to Zelra's inventory (100 gp in match winnings minus 5 gp for living expenses and 1 gp for arrows).
ARNALD:
Your archery lessons draw a crowd of many familiar faces, but one you expected to see is not there this time around. Villonah, the young gnome woman, does not attend.
OOC: It's much easier to find spell scrolls and other magic items through adventuring than it is elsewhere. Searching for scrolls is a time-consuming and expensive effort that Arnald can't quite afford yet (100 gp minimum just in effort to find someone who has them in their possession).
Removed 5 gp for living expenses from Arnald's inventory.
Zelra laughs at Grelinda's frustration. "If you're so unhappy with serving adventurers, why don't you become one yourself, aye? Anyone can do it. Just gotta make a start first. It'll be a hell of a lot more exciting than working here." She goes to take a big swig of her drink but remembers it's wine and takes a sip instead.
"Don't think I haven't thought of it," Grelinda grumbles. A call comes from the kitchen, to which she rolls her eyes, gathers a couple of used glasses, and carries them off.
Zelra turns to Sylyra with a curious look. "Why are you so interested in them? Got a crush?" She pokes him in the side with her elbow, a suggestive look and amused smirk on her face.
Sylyra turns his scowl — which had appeared prior to Zelra's question — on the rogue. "A crush? On that moss-haired leatherfoot?" he responds bitingly. "I have better taste than that." He takes a sip from his wineglass and looks at the kitchen door, the scowl deepening.
Seeing the others Uragum moves up to join them at their table. He motions to the staff to bring something to drink. Getting to the table, he places both hands down and strenuously lowers himself into a chair. Some dark blotches are around his right eye and cheek, a scabbed over cut across his upper and lower lip and his knuckles appear to be scrapped up as well.
"There you are Zelra, I was meaning ta welcome ya to the pits. Imagine my surprise when they announced your name. Had I know you were coming I'd have laid down some coin," he says to her with a jovial tone.
Sylyra glances over at Uragrum, his scowl becoming a look of half interest/half disgust at the wizard's injuries. At the goliath's words, the elf's head jerks to look at Zelra with a look of surprise.
Seeing the reaction on Sylyra's face he says, "Oh, you didn't know either? Well, I'll not press for reasons, we all go our own. For me it's simple; it's in me blood. Then there's the money, that's good." He pulls out a gold coin and spins it on the table. "Truth be told, I need the money for my studies. Magic ain't cheap, I wasn't born rich, and my tribe is less than supportive of this," and he pulls out the book wita chain through a hole in the corner and running to his waist.
Sylyra's countenance changes once again, his face now inscrutable, but his eyes are on the Uragrum's coin. The elf takes another sip of his wine, then smiles. "I've never had the opportunity to witness such games. Perhaps I'll join you when next you fight to ... cheer you on from the sidelines."
Zelra grins proudly, laughing at Sylyra's reaction before nonchalantly shrugging. "Well after hearing of your success, and more importantly the reward you were getting, I wanted to give it a little shot. A bit of extra coin never hurt no one. You seem to be doing pretty well yourself. I mean, you look pretty ****ed but headline fight aye? That's pretty impressive."
"Considering you're such a big buff dude, what made you get into magic? No offence but it doesn't really suit, uhh-" Zelra points at Uragum and wiggles her finger. "-all this."
"I have this," he says as he flexes his bicep of his right arm. "But I also have this," he says as he taps his temple indicating his brain. "Hate ta say it but I'm smarter than most my kin. I learned ta read, got hold of some simple spells and found I had a knack for it. Could only reason that I use all my capabilities and not just limit me self to swinging a sword." His face grows a little little dim. "Not the most popular choice with the tribe though."
