The moonlight helped Zack see the shadows of the figures as he turned form stowing his horse away, saddle still on. He smirked a bit, imagining some old story his dad used to tell him about the Younglings of the Cob.... and the glowing but muted color of the Teiflings eyes only making him chuckle more, before finally focusing back on Xolkin. Haha.. sorry just remembering a story I used to get told when I was younger. His eyes falling on the gemstones as they were poured out, and for a moment.. his face went slack, as if they had struck some cord.. his eyes transfixed on them and his breathing catching for just a moment. He flinches before catching himself, his breath just a bit more ragged than before, as if he'd just seen a horrible memory that was swiftly repressed. Swallowing and catching his own head with his hand, he furrowed his brows in confusion ... sorry about that.... something must have come over me... his limbs were trembling subtly. Either way... 500 is quite generous.. even split three ways thats.. what? almost two hundred gold for each of us. I'm liking this already. Is this the usual pay for jobs with the Zhentarim? Or just a nice 'silence - and - potentially - sign- on bonus'? And we appreciate it. We had no idea they were anyone other than whoever owned that house over there so we figured they had simply been abandoned.
After waiting to hear Xolkins replies to his couple questions, a well as any concerns Xolkin may have expressed in regards to his 'issue' a moment ago he would then say I don't see any reason not to accept. And I can assure you, you won't have to worry about us not remaining silent, especially after tonight! Hopefully Gran and Nadia can have some time to catch up though?
Zack would put out his hand for the payment, and wait until it was already in hand and pocketed (if that was going to happen at all) before continuing.
And I noticed your infernal companion over there seems to have eyes for me.once again, chinning in their direction Mind if I have a word with them? I promise I won't be rough. he says with a wink and a lip-tch-click.
(Havent read the post yet just gonna post this real quick because I keep consistently forgetting to mention it. The characters who don't have dark vision all have a latern on the horse, once in the stables a latern is left somewhere where it will provide light for the room. So the room is now mostly well lit though the corners are still shadowy. There, I finally remembered to post about the light lol now I'll actually read the post and respond)
When he see's your initial reaction to seeing the gems, his expression becomes one of confusion and perhaps a bit of mild concern. "You okay? You look pale. Not going to pass out on us are you?" Once you've assured him all is well the rest of the interaction proceeds normally. Once you agree to the sum, he hands you the pouch and says "A pleasure doing business with you. Truth be told, the gems are an insurance policy. You never know when you'll need to bribe a guard or give someone hush money for example. By the way, I should mention, once you and your friends are sent on your way, don't go thinking we won't find out if you tell someone. The Black Network has eyes and hears all the way from Calimport to Neverwinter. If you tell anyone I promise word will reach us, and our next meeting won't be so pleasant. And if for some reason we can't get to you, the Network has many skilled assassins in its employ that can." Xolkin chuckles briefly. "Not saying you would betray us of course, just making sure you understand what you've stepped into is all. Anyway, let's talk of more pleasant matters now that we understand one another. You folks are welcome to stay here in the stables if you wish, or if you would prefer, you can check out some of those farm houses, maybe find one or two in good condition with actual beds. Just make sure you stay clear of the inn and the gate. No offense, but my crew aren't going to trust you just yet and I think we would both prefer if our draconic friends didn't run into each other and start a fight. As for Gran, well..." Xolkin glances the direction of the loft. "I suppose I could spare him for a short while. But I'm still not sure I trust you folks so much that I'll let one of my crew be alone with you. If your friend wants to catch up she can do it at the inn, my guys will be close by but they should have enough privacy to talk. Otherwise I'm afraid I can't allow it. I need to look after my men, I'm sure you understand."
When you ask about talking to the teifling, Xolkin looks over his shoulder towards her. "Sure if you want, so long as it's in this room, like I said, not ready to leave my guys alone with you yet. But talk if you wish, no promises she'll want to speak back though."
Even though Zack is listening to Xolkin speak, his mind keeps flashing back to when he saw those gems. Why did he react that way? He managed to keep his concern from his expression throughout. Don't worry man.. You won't have to worry about finding out of any betrayal, no matter how large or small in the future, I promise. After Xolkin chuckles, Zack considers makign a joke about 'if they didn't they'd be blind, but man.. that's some impressive hearing' but refrains as that might be taken as a slight against their organization. And trust me, I know exactly what we've stepped into. One thing an old friend of mine told me was to always press forward, and to always hold onto your dreams. He never specified how I had to achieve them though.
At mention of seeking better accommodations he'd shake his head in the negative Nah.... I know for a fact we've cleared out everything from the gate to here atleast. Would rather not risk an untimely death by a goblin playing a boogeyman having hid under my bead Y'know? Atleast here they have to come to us, and we have a little bit of a chance. And yeah.. would be best to keep them apart.... Though I can't deny... it might be fun to watch two Dragons go at it. Never seen a fight like that before. At that he laughs heartily. heis head looking to the floor as if imagining it in his own head. As Xolkin responds to his most recent request, Zack gives him a curt nod. Trust me... I can understand why you wouldn't, we just met after all. I'll make it quick. With that he'd head to where the teifling female was and offer her a nod in greeting. So.. What seems to have your attention? or perhaps you're charmed by my decent looks... or maybe just these? he says, flexing his visible biceps, his left arm bearing his recent scars from the worg. (Atheltics 11+ Persuasion-charm 24)
As you approach the tiefling she returns your nod with one of her own. She chuckles at your (successful) attempt to charm her. "Cute, but no. Just making sure you don't try anything funny with the boss." Her eyes divert from you over to Xolkin, who appears to be having a hushed conversation with Kella.
(Same dont wanna get too far. I'll save this till the others have caught up. Just fyi tomorrow I'll be flying so I'll probably not be responding till late in the day though I suppose that's usual for me anyway)
Just before Gran joins the pair, she listens in on what Xolkin says to Gran, earning an unseen roll of the eyes and a scoff from the elf.‘Remember who your real family is’ my ass, they wouldn’t know family if it smacked them dead in the face, she would hiss mentally. Her jaw grew sore with how hard she had been clenching her teeth, angry that she couldn’t say how she felt because of how quickly they could dispose of her. If she could she would be cursing them up a storm, shooting arrows left and right at each and every one of them. She didn’t even realize how irate she was until she looked down at her shaking hands, closing them into fists to try and stop it. Get a grip on yourself, she told herself as she breathed and watched Gran join them at the top, just figure out what he’s doing here.
Nadia’s eyes looked over to the potential bedding, then back to Gran. “Uh, hey, can you help me with that pile there?” She tried to keep her voice low, and not dripping with her frustration. “Please?” When he (hopefully) joins her, their backs turned from Nadaar, she whispers to him as they work. “So... How’ve you been, Gran? What are you... doing with, you know... them?”
(Have a safe flight! Not sure if you want a persuasion check for anything but I’ll roll one just in case: 5)
(TY! I'll try to sneak in a post now still got 20 min before boarding anyway)
Gran makes his way up to the top of the loft and looks back and forth between you and Nadar, he looks a little uncomfortable, like he's not sure what to do or say. When asked to assist with the bedding he smiles and nods his head "Sure."
He heads over to assist and gives Nadaar a nervous, awkward smile as he passes him. He kneels down and starts helping set up a sleeping area. He responds to your question in a whispered voice "You know that family that took me in? Well, everything was fine for a couple of years, but, well the village was mostly destroyed. I think someone said it was dragon cultists, that group that was causing problems all over a couple of years ago. Anyway, my new parents...well...you know. I only just managed to escape. From there I ended up walking all the way to Daggerford. Begged, stole some food here and there. Xolkin found me. Gave me work. Took me in and raised me and the rest is history. What about you? How did you end up here? Where's your sister? I heard there was some sort of attack near the orphanage not long after I left, is that true? I had assumed everyone..well I didn't think I'd be seeing you again."
Nadaar hardly appears to even notice Gran once the trio set to work. The work was all that mattered to the Dragonborn. Although why he felt the need to mutter numbers on occassion is anyone's guess. He at least takes one break to look down at the rest, and upon seeing Zack flirting with the tiefling, gets a really incredulous look about his mug. He then glances to Xolkin and Kella, and if either see the envious look on his face, he tries to quickly smooth out his features and smiles pleasantly to them.
'That should about do it' He thought as he turned back to moving about hay and tools, slowly but surely erecting roughly ten by ten thick covers along the edge of their platform. As much as he tries to subtly guide Nadia along at the beginning, its not until Grant starts getting distracted with catching up, but not until /after/ he spoke, that he cuts in with a, "My friends! A few more over there, and it aughta do it." He suggests towards an edge hopefully just over Stella's stall, if not some othe rowdy horses' sleep station. Then during a moment in which Grant's back is at least mostly to the dragonborn, he looks between Grant and Nadia before make subtle pushing towards the edge motions.
Nadaar than moves on to stand behind the makeshift barrier closest to the ladder and says...
(So a few things to have cleared up when you get back UKT before Nadaar executes order 66 21, betrayal of the Zhents and finishing Nadaar's thought) 1) From at least the edge of the hay bale loft, is Xolkin, Kella, and the tiefling within 30ft of Nadaar roughly speaking? Or would he have to do some luring? Because I'm thinking of attempting at least to Bane them all? 2) How easily removable does the ladder seem to be? As in, if someone were trying to climb it 3) How high up is the loft? 4) And finally, there any potential point one could throw out a sleep spell, and catch more enemies than horses in it? At least initially?)

(1. Yes. The stables are 30ft wide and 40 ft from the front door to the rear door. The Teifling is leaning against the wall near the front door Xolkin and Kella are in the first stall to the right as you come in the front door so everyone is in range
2. The ladders are nailed into the floor for stability up top and are partially embedded into the ground for stability on the bottom. In other words it would be hard to rip out the ladders in one go but they could be damaged. No guarantee it would stop someone from using them, would depend on the roll and nature of the attempt to break them
3. 15ft
4. RAW it would have to effect the creature with the lowest current HP firs . That said. Horses may have more HP than you think . Especially draft horses. Also looking at it again you could place the spell where it will affect the most people, would affect everyone but the teifling/Zack but no way to get everyone without luring the Teifling closer )
Nadia’s hard facade fell hearing Gran’s story, frowning as she adjusted the bedding, wanting to make it comfortable. “Wow... I’m sorry you had to go through that... again.” Her brows furrowed as she couldn’t find much else to say regarding it, not wanting to pry into it too much. She wished that she could have found him first, to have lead him away from the Zhents, but that wasn’t how the world worked, these things happened for a reason, didn’t they? “I’ve been okay, I’m actually still new to this whole adventuring thing, haha... As for Natasha, she’s adventuring too. That was a real shock to me. You remember how shy she was? Last thing I expected her to say, even said that I should go with her but... I couldn’t leave the kids.” She smiles softly at the fond memory. “But an attack near the orphanage? No, no... that’s not true, thankfully. I don’t know how I’d be if I had to face another attack after everything I’d already been through.”
Nadia would listen to Gran if he continuing talking after Nadaar requested more bedding at one side of the loft, and she looked at the dragonborns motion with a frown. He was a kid you knew, but that doesn’t make him less a Zhent,Nadia reminded herself. She would wait for the whole thing to pop off before she would do as she was told.
Gran chuckles softly. "Haha yeah, well third times the charm right? And good, I'm glad that was just a rumor then. Theres been so many rumors floating about I can't keep them straight anymore. First it was cultists and dragons now its giants. Seems like the world is coming to an end sometimes ya know?"
When Nadaar asks for assistance Gran heads with Nadia to help, his guard is clearly down and he is unaware of his precarious position near the ledge. While you are all near the ledge, you overhear bits of Xolkins conversation. He seems to be trying to convince Kella to stay a bit longer. She's not having it however, insisting she moves along first thing in the morning. The longer Xolkin tries to convince her the more frustrated she seems to get.
Zack, the Teifling woman gives you an admiring look and chuckles. "Hehehe, maybe. But boss wouldn't like it, least not here and now anyway. Maybe another time handsome."
Nadaar voices catches in his throat, and makes show of rubbing his throat for a second. His eyes wander even then, a final sizing before he next feigns trying to dig something from his tooth. One "slip-up" later, and fangs are blooded from a thumb slit along them. Though he curses and waves the hand about after, rather than suck it, he holds it before his face to let the blood drop before him. "Never let it be said your fangs aren't as sharp as your wit, " He jests to himself, and then more aloud as another bead readies to fall he says, "Stand firm, Lady Nadia. You have what it takes." And then turning towards the lower area. "Say Xolkin! Have you ever heard the phrase from that dragonborn of yours--" and he continues on in draconic a small Haiku.
Drip and Fall Solemn The Red River Sung Willing Blight Night's Dark Spirits
A senseless phrase upon its own, but as the blood droplet falls, and sweeping gesture is made to Xolkin, Kella, and Gran, there's... a pinch felt in the heart and head. One that only grows more noticeable and pressing -- like the feeling of loneliness or annoyance. If his duplicity in masking the spell is uncovered, Nadaar tries to let out a "Now!"at least.
But if not, he goes on to say casually, "No matter!Zack! How about assisting in Final Performance for our friends!" The closest thing to signal he could dare now that the spell has been cast.
(In summary, Nadia /at least/ should be getting Nadaar's final bardic inspiration before things pop off. But if I need to do a performance or deception to mask casting a spell without their noticing, here's one: 16(+4 instead if performance))
(Edit: The spell cast was Bane on Xolkin, Kella, and Gran. Charisma Save(DC 13) or suffer -1d4 to every attack roll and saving throw going forward)
(Wasn't sure to roll Initiative Ahead of time or not this time, but Nadaar's is +2 now thanks to Jack of All Trades)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nadaar had pushed things a bit faster than Zack had intended... He was trying to wear down their guard a bit more - and give Nadia a longer chance to catch up.. He had been playing his part quite well, and it's unfortunate that this Teif has to die... as well as most, if not all of everyone else here. But Can't let the Zhentarim take over this place. And an aspiring hero has to do what they have to do for the common good... he thought to himself. His face shifted from its casual charm, to a look of pitied resignation. Zacks hands suddenly shot up to the hilt of his weapon, grabbing the handle, and easily dislodging it from it's sheath, and bringing the blade to bear in an arcing slash before he lost the element of surprise entirely. Attack: 26 Damage: 16 (Assuming advantage, but if not take the lower roll + 6) Sorry sweetheart... but you picked the wrong side... his voice did not sound mocking.
(Since I'm not sure if we get a surprise round or not, if not, ignore below, if so.... I will post what Zack will do in his surprise round.)
If the Teifling woman is still alive, he will strike her once more, if not his Action Surge will instead be used to spin around and attack the next nearest Zhent-to-him. Attack: 21 Damage: 10 (same as before, not sure if I have advantage or not, so if not take the lower number + 6) After which, he will shift himself to be directly in front of the door, to at-least hinder, if not outright block entry and exiting. A firm look of resolve on his face, that showed he had little to no intention for mercy. You brought this on yourselves. I hope you're ready for what comes next.
Xolkin looks above him to Nadaar as Nadaar calls out. As he recites his poem in Draconic and sweeps his hands, a drop of blood falls and lands on Xolkins shoe. He looks down at the blood and you see he grabs the hilt of his sword in seeming realization of what Nadar has done. He suddenly grabs his forehead with his off hand as a sudden uncomfortable feeling overcomes him. "Ergh. Spell! Kill them! Kill them now!" He shouts loudly.
Zafaris looks suddenly over to Xolkin as he yell, she instinctively goes for her sword and looks back to Zack as he speaks. Zacks sword comes down at an arch and cuts across the entire length of the Teiflings body. She is pushed back an inch or two into the wall of the Stable and slumps down in a now forming pool of blood, her sword still in its sheath.
In the stable, Xolkin backs up about 5ft and pulls out a potion vial that contains a grey, syrupy liquid. He quickly downs the entire vial before smashing the glass on the ground. To Zack he yells "Dumb move boy, very dumb move."
(Nadaars spell, from what i could tell, was meant to be disguised, however since it was revealed by Xolkin suprise is negated, no advantage either at least for Zacks melee, Nadaar and Nadia can get height advantage as normal against everyone below them. Also I realized I rolled a save for the teifling even though she wasn't targeted by Bane so ignore that. Xolkin was the only one affected by the spell which I find ironic since he was also the only one to see trough the ruse. anyway, let the blood bath commence. Initiative is Xolkin Nadaar, Nadia, Gran, Zafaris, Kella and finally Zack.)
I do potions as full actions so that's it for Xolkin. Nadaar is up. Teifling is dead, Xolkin has moved back so he would be directly below you, as in the floor is blocking your view, Kella is partially blocked but otherwise is a normal Target. And Gran is well, a very easy target at this point.
Cursing inwardly, Nadaar races over to a stood at least a good five to ten feet before grant, facing towards the precarious ledge behind the human. "My apologies, Lad! Blame Hlal, if you wish!" He said in a rush, then took a deep breathe. Once more the air is filled by the scent of burnt cinnamon and melted batteries before a torrent of acid is unleashed upon grant and part of the floor beneath his feet, splashing off the platform in a deadly, if not just irritable rain onto those below or beyond the line.
Afterwards, he ducks off to the side and behind one of the hay covers along the edge. "Nadia! Kella first. You have it."He says, inspiring her further, if he had not already during the job.
Action: Nadaar unleashes his Dragon Breathe - Dex Save(DC 11) to save for half of 8 acid damage.
(As mentioned in PM. Aiming for Grant and at least the flooring just beneath him. Kella too, if the "bonus" is even possible without ruining the former)

Gran looks down at Zack as he cuts down the teifling in a single blow. Gran's face turns visibly pale at the sight, and he reaches for his blade without thinking on it. Upon hearing Nadaar speak Gran turns around to face him. Just as the stream of acid pours from Nadaars maw, Gran skillfully moves to the side, taking minimal damage from burning goo. The floor beneath him starts to creak and with the same dodging motion he hops 5ft to the side, easily avoiding the newly formed hole in the old wooden floor. Gran's hands are still on his blade as he frantically looks around for something.
Nadia is up. Nadaar is 10ft from Gran, as is Nadia. There is a 5ft hole in the floor where Gran used to be, providing a clear line of sight to Kella below to anyone adjacent to the hole. Currently that would be Nadia and Gran who are adjacent to the hole. The hole in the floor separates Nadia and Gran, though there is a 5ft section of floor against the wall so you could walk around if you want. BTW Nadia and Nadaar both get attacks of opportunity against Gran if you so choose to burn your reaction.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nadia's heart started racing as soon as she heard Nadaar's shout, her hand already working on getting her bow and an arrow from her quiver. She hopped back to avoid the hole now in the floorboards, giving her the perfect shot to that little puta she's been wanting to pierce an arrow through, but her aim was on Gran. The elf's visage is hard, brows furrowed, deep brown eyes looking into the fellow orphans trying to see if there was any ounce of the old Gran left in him. "I don't want to hurt you, Gran." It was difficult to keep her voice leveled, but the other could hear the sincerity of her tone. "Remember who was your family first."
Persuasion (if needed): 22
IF Gran does not comply (aka back down, drop the weapon or if he wants to fight Xolkin and friends instead thats okay :D) Nadia WILLuse her reaction to shoot him. Attack roll if necessary - Attack: 17 Damage: 7
If he's on their side/backs down/etc, Nadia will now aim for Kella, also casting Hunters Mark (bonus action) on her for good measure. Attack: 18 Damage: 11 Extra Damage: 5
((hot diggity can i use that gran attack on kella if he complies?))
Grans hand grabs the hilt of the sword firmly, he stares at Nadia with the arrow aimed right at him. He quickly glances at the dead teifling and then at Xolkin before turning back to Nadia. He hesitates for a moment but released his grip, the sword remains in its sheath. He raises his hands in the air to show his surrender. "Please, Nadia, just let me go."
(Assuming this is enough to redirect the attack to Kella, and yes I'll use the first attack. Technically you'd have advantage but you already crit sooo.)
You instead fire the arrow at the exposed Kella, who has turned the look at the hole in the floor at just the wrong moment. The arrow is a deadly accurate shot, striking her in the left eye for an extra 7 damage. Kella screams with pain and clutches at where her eye had once been is now only the shaft of an arrow.
Gran uses the distraction to quickly jump over the railing to a clear space below, skillfully landing without incident and landing on Kella's horse ready to ride. He gives the beast a quick kick and both he and the horse are suddenly rushing out of the stable and toward the main gate.
Kella while this is happening, Kella is staring up at Nadia with pure hatred in her remaining eye. She notices Gran with his hands up, and seems to get even angrier, as he leaps down onto the horse and starts to steal her loyal companion she reacts by pulling her hand crossbow for a last minuet shot at Gran before he leaves the stables yelling "Traitor!" Attack: 24 Damage: 4
The shot is excellent strikes gran in the back, almost certainly puncturing one of his lungs. Gran remains on the horse as he rides out the stables (Using his the dash action on the horse would give him 120 ft of movement, so he is almost right at the gate. about 30 ft away from the towers. Also Zack would get an Opportunity attack though keep in mind he did hear Kella yell traitor and shoot him)
As Gran leaves the stables with Kella's horse, and she bleeds from a horrid wound caused by Nadia. She looks back up to Nadia and yells "I'll kill you for this *****! I'm coming for you!" And just like that she dashes faster than many of you have ever seen before (cunning action - bonus to dash) she quickly moves the 15ft to the ladder and scales the other 15 ft with easy. She rushes towards Nadia, shortsword in her main hand unleashing two quick slashes Attack: 15 Damage: 8 Attack: 15 Damage: 4 The two strikes hit home, and though they hurt they are nothing compared to what they might have been.
Zack is up. Kella is now up top fighting with Nadia. SHe is adjacent to both Nadia and Nadaar, Kiddie corner to Nadia. The ladder is 20 ft away and would be another 15 ft to climb, then another 5ft to get behind Kella. Gran is now well out of melee range, having fled to the gate via riding horse. You all saw him get hit and at this point its anyone's guess if he even survived. He looked Severely wounded. Xolkin is in the stable still against the back wall, 25 ft away from Zack.
(grrr I finally goofed up rolls. Edited in Grans dex save up top. Oh well i can assure you all rolls are not manipulated. I'll see if i can fix it for the record the roll was a Dex save for Gran jumping off the ledge which he got a nat20 because apparently he's an expert acrobat)
(haha technically stolen)
The moonlight helped Zack see the shadows of the figures as he turned form stowing his horse away, saddle still on. He smirked a bit, imagining some old story his dad used to tell him about the Younglings of the Cob.... and the glowing but muted color of the Teiflings eyes only making him chuckle more, before finally focusing back on Xolkin.
He then smirks wider Oh? Would you rather I tried something funny with you instead? (at this point I'll wait for the others to post!)

Just before Gran joins the pair, she listens in on what Xolkin says to Gran, earning an unseen roll of the eyes and a scoff from the elf. ‘Remember who your real family is’ my ass, they wouldn’t know family if it smacked them dead in the face, she would hiss mentally.
(So a few things to have cleared up when you get back UKT before Nadaar executes order
6621, betrayal of the Zhents and finishing Nadaar's thought)1) From at least the edge of the hay bale loft, is Xolkin, Kella, and the tiefling within 30ft of Nadaar roughly speaking? Or would he have to do some luring? Because I'm thinking of attempting at least to Bane them all?
2) How easily removable does the ladder seem to be? As in, if someone were trying to climb it
3) How high up is the loft?

He was a kid you knew, but that doesn’t make him less a Zhent, Nadia reminded herself.
A senseless phrase upon its own, but as the blood droplet falls, and sweeping gesture is made to Xolkin, Kella, and Gran, there's... a pinch felt in the heart and head. One that only grows more noticeable and pressing -- like the feeling of loneliness or annoyance. If his duplicity in masking the spell is uncovered, Nadaar tries to let out a "Now!" at least.
But if not, he goes on to say casually, "No matter! Zack!

Initiative is Xolkin Nadaar, Nadia, Gran,
Zafaris, Kella and finally Zack.)I do potions as full actions so that's it for Xolkin.
You have it." He says, inspiring her further, if he had not already during the job.

IF Gran does not comply (aka back down, drop the weapon or if he wants to fight Xolkin and friends instead thats okay :D) Nadia WILL use her reaction to shoot him. Attack roll if necessary - Attack: 17 Damage: 7
If he's on their side/backs down/etc, Nadia will now aim for Kella, also casting Hunters Mark (bonus action) on her for good measure.
Attack: 18 Damage: 11
Extra Damage: 5
