Lord Bladesemmer raises a hand to wave away Torus's comment on Genocide. I do not believe that will be necessary. A peaceful solution would be preferable though whether or not that is possible remains to be seen. Regardless, I agree with Narz here, we will let you all get to know each other and you can set out in the morning. The Duchess nods in agreement and pulls out a small parchment and pin from her desk. She walks over to Claire and hands it over. The parchment is small a tightly bound with a golden ribbon, the pin is small but heavy, depicting a golden crown over a red banner. I know you are not members of the Lords Alliance, nor are you sworn to my service. However this pin and letter should mark you as being on official buisness on behalf of the Alliance, more specifically for myself. Just be warned, there are many who do not approve of the alliance and outside our little slice of the sword coast and Delimbiyr Vale there are some who may not approve of me, even those within the alliance itself. I would not strut around with it but you may find that alliance backing may aid you and provide legitimate backing to whatever actions you take. Of course I shouldn't need to remind you that if you take action with my backing, please make sure its honorable. If I find you misused this gift, or if any of you acted dishonorably in my name then I would be forced to take disciplinary action, even if that meant the gallows. She gives Torus a hard side stare, with her facing away from the Tortle only Claire and co can see that this seems to be directed mainly at the Tortle but is probably also meant as general advice.
Now, unless there's questions you may all go and prepare. And good luck heros.
Torsus idly mused about them trying to behead him on the gallows when, unlike most races, he can withdraw his head into his shell, and a bemused smile grew on his face imagining how it would all play out when he could do all sorts of things even in that state. Not that he would ever try to overthrow a state.. honestly. But if they struck first.... Shaking the thought out of his head he would look to the Duchess with his smile still present. That is fine. I merely wanted to make sure that you all knew what measures I was willing to take if necessary, as opposed to leaving doubt. My only true goal is the betterment of myself, and those around me. I have made mistakes in the past, and have learned from them. But yes, let us mingle. T'would be good to know one another, and will give us ample chance to explain our specialties to one another. And thank you Duchess. For.. Now let us be going.
Assuming a servant or some other form of staff would lead them to a common room, or at-least a room near their rooms with which to get to know each-other, Torsus would wait until they were led there, and until he could detect no minds within his range aside from Claire, Rollo, Narz, and Rillex who no one ever forgets exists, ever like Yue. And if he does detect them, he would send them a telepathic warnign that I Know you're there. Privacy please.
Regardless once they did have privacy, Torsus would once again take up the first slot. Pardon me for being rude young ones, but if I may be the first, since it was my request to do so... But I do believe learning one another talents may be useful. You may omit whatever you wish, but the more we know about one another the more useful we can be to eachother. As you have seen with me, I am capable of creating rather grande illusions, though they are not impenetrable, as the great Rollo demonstrated.
He said, clearing his throat, and brushing off his legs. I excel at manipulating the minds of others, sometimes with visuals such as the illusion, but other times I may instill fear or confusion. I can rout a large amount of foes at once with a single spell. But unlike casters you may be familiar with, the number of times I can do so, is extremely limited. As such, I will use them tactfully. Many of my skills cover large areas, so being in the melee is not suggested, as I cannot prevent my abilities from effecting you as well.
But such parlor tricks are not all I am capable of. I am capable of unleashing powerful blasts from my fingertips that can knock foes off of their toes, or force them to come to us, should I desire it. I am the battlefield itself, for I am the one who controls it. A slight crimson glint appearing in his eyes before vanishing. Clearing his throat once more, several times... Yet you need not fret about my welfare either. Though I may be a master of the forces of magic, I am not frail. Few have managed to pierce this shell of mine, so do not worry overmuch if I decide I am bold and step into the face of our enemies and show them what true power is. Another glint in his eye, with a twitch before he recomposes himself.
Swallowing as if something difficult had just happened, he purses his brow in pain, letting out slow, heavy breaths for several long moments before he seems to be allright once more, cracking his knuckles one by one before saying And there is more I would tell you, when our goal is achieved, and I have ascertained if you may be able to help me with something that will require.. powerful allies. Something I cannot achieve alone. The last bit of it bleeding into all of your minds as he speaks telepathically to you all with the final two words.
Rollo follows along after the others, trying to get a handle on more strange new companions. He nods when asked for the assessment. "Well, I've got none of that but I know my way through a fight. My time at the monastery gave me a few gifts from the divine. Other than that I can mostly just hit things, hard. And the skills I have learned in the woods have left me with the ability to speak with some creatures, as well as seemingly take much more punishment than anyone else."

With a fist to his chest, Narz bowed partway at the waist out of respect for the duchess and in response to the dismissal before turning to follow after the others. Although Torsus last exchange with the Duchess is one the hobgoblin kept in mind, his lips stayed sealed for the time being. As if an afterthought however, he hung back long enough to gesture to Rillex, offering the feline a perch upon his shoulder just prior to falling in line after the others. If obeyed, Rillex bravery is rewarded in a treat from side pouch of Narz usually reserved from the hob's familiar. But if not, Narz wasn't one to be put off by much non-arcane related, and simply carried on assuming the little one would follow in their wake.
Once the group reconvenes elsewhere Narz finds a seat and respectfully waits for at least a couple to say their piece before speaking his own. "Well, I for one, and I do apologize if I'm interrupting a bit here--" He says, looking to the two women yet to speak before carrying on, "-But I am a bit of arcane practitioner. Which, just by the way, I do apologize if you noted any hostility back there. Nothing personal. It's just we did just recently did what we did, and I have been trained be ever on the alert for hostile intent and magics. And while clearly you meant nothing untoward with your little display back there, the lack of warning and attempt to mask your casting -- which by the way, I did notice -- called into question your intent." He says frankly, and yet still held to a formal and respectful tone to a degree.
"Granted, you did say Deception as a presumably key word there, and not villany thing, so..." He pauses, looks to the cieling for a moment, and then furrow his brows as looks back to Torsus. "I've seem to have lost the plot there a little bit, eh? Anywhosen! The name is Narz the Quiet, which in hindsight may have been a mistake to not omit that last part considering the history behind that nickname." There is a solid pause in silence as Narz just gets this far off looking in his eyes for a moment. "... Nevertheless, that's who I am. And as a Wizard of the, uhm.. *ahem*... as a Wizard, I have a variety of spells at my disposal. Some destructive, others of the utility variety, and a few more that can assist in spying, within reason. I've also been over time developing a thus far less researched school of magic that allows me to alter the density and or gravitational forces of things that touch with my magic."
"Also.. I'm rather skilled at the maul, and like long walks on the beach."
Claire raises her hand and gives a slight wave as if introducing herself to a classroom. "My name is Claire Arrensfeld. I wield the magic of a divine light that allows me to protect and bolster my allies, curse my foes, and mapitulate the battle field in limited ways. Namely as my friends... or, well, just Rollo now I suppose, has witnessed, this usually entails calling upon a wall of wind to block incoming projectiles or raising jagged spikes from the earth to impede our foes. Aside from that I can command plants to grow and enrich soil for farming. That's the tall and stiff of my abilities, I think. ...Ehrm... the tall and short... long-and-short... of it," she stumbles over the end of her introduction. "... Oh, and when I'm not casting spells I'll be fighting with a spear, or on my mount with a lance. Mounted combat is my preference."
Aeyd feels a bit shameful having fallen for the tortles tricks, yet still finds herself interested in his talents. An illusion like that would definitely prove to be a useful tool for any future conflicts, and she wonders just what else the older warlock had in his bag of tricks. She would bow in response to Tortus' apologies but held no ill gaze towards him, if anything an amused smirk would be tugged at the corner of her lip.
The elf would look to have no qualms with what was decided on either moving today or tomorrow, though it looked to be as if setting off tomorrow was favored to give them time to better know of each other and their capabilities. Aeyd would listen to each one of them speak, interested in what everyone said they could in and out of combat. Then it came to be their turn.
The monk grew sheepish under their gaze. "Ah... It's my turn then, I suppose?"She would inquire first before continuing. "My name is Aeyd... Well, you all already knew that, but I have no surname nor a title. My capabilities hold nothing to what you all can do and I find myself excited to see them put to the test." She smiles before continuing. "Onto me... I'm... merely a monk, specialized in hand to hand combat, so... nothing truly special. My techniques are derived mainly from the dragons..." As she says this, she opens her palms. "They've... blessed me with their knowledge and I've been able to hone some of their power into my fighting."Her hands close. "I've found myself able to mimic their breath weapons and also use their damage typing's in my strikes have I wish it... And I can also fly, but very briefly." She folds her hands before her again. "In the case of being unable to get close to my enemies, I can... use a bow... That's about it." She says, giving a light chuckle.

Torsus can only chuckle at Narz comment, slapping his shell like a human would their knee before leaning forward. Ah yes, yes.. Well had I not done what i had done, it would have been obvious it was a spell. Like a street magician showing everything to the crowd during his trick. And t'would all have been obvious from the start. The clue I gave you all instead was the name: Deception. he said in response to Narz, just before Claire entered the conversation herself.
Listening in with bemusement at Claires... for lack of a better word 'childlike' mentality? He waited until Aeyd had finished, so he wouldn't be known as an 'interrupter'... Regardless he wasn't one to not push when he saw a chance, though he had a wide, immature grin across his own face as .. whether by intention or not... Why Claire... It seems you have something very specific on your mind. Something long and distracting to a woman of your age... But you're not supposed to fight with the spear while mounted... You're supposed to encourage it's penetration until it is coated with the fluids of your opponent, Lady Claire. Perhaps he was a bit too dirty minded, and had taken it the wrong way, perhaps Claire was saying exactly what he was just mentioning, or perhaps it was something else entirely, but it was too good an opportunity to pass up, and one that would likely never present itself again.
And finally once everyone had said their piece, and he had made his little tease of the young woman, and her dirty thoughts about spears and mounting he became more serious. His gaze went around to each one of them in turn. His confidence in Narz was high, he was perceptive, and distrusting, which meant he wasn't a fool. And he seemed confident in his abilities, he was to the point and frank, even if his voice didn't match his mentality in the slightest. Rollo, the only one to see through his charade easily surprised him, considering.. y'know.. he's a barbie... but that made Torsus wonder if there was more to the man than his appearance would show. He would make a good meat shield, and he seemed confident in himself. Claire was... or at-least seemed to be young of mind or inexperienced with the world, her confidence was wavering at best, she seemed capable but easily tripped up on her own thought and words.. she'd be fun to tease atleast, he wasn't sure how well she'd do in combat though, he'd have to see her there before he could judge.
Aeyd's listed skills sounded like they would be impressive but the monk herself was either taking piety and humility to the extreme, or she lacked confidence in her abilities.. she seemed like the least confident of the bunch here, she may or may not become a drag on the rest but he didn't have the choice of his adventuring crew, and he needed them, or at-least some people to aid him in the future with his goals, and this was the perfect way to test these people..
Gruning, then nodding. We have a rather diverse and capable bunch then, it seems. In terms of raw power I think we have that covered. We'll have the giants quaking in their boots as much as they make the land they walk on quake beneath them. Though before any misunderstandings occur, I know little of giants aside from what is most common knowledge. I could be entirely wrong about their ability to resist cold but .. I'd rather not take chances.
Unless the others had more specific topics to discuss, Torsus would then suggest getting to bed so they could be on their way, afterall, there's only so much you can learn that isn't better learned through experience.
Narz is nothing if not respectful and professional about the whole ordeal, or tries to be while listening to each compatriot. Rollo and Claire's prefered style he recalled from back in the cave, or observed from familiars. So, apart from brushing his beard at the thought of learning more advanced techniques of a Mounted Combatant, there's hardly much of any other reactions there. At other points -- like with Aleyd's mentioning of Draconic techniques -- he cannot help but sit further forward in his seat, forgetting or suppressing for the time any ingrained dislike or racial discomfort further. Her own consequently, if there's any from merely show intense interest, phases himi not in the slightest bit.
By the end of introductions, the hobgoblin had at least a feel of their abilities. But while the Tortle would continue to intrigue or amuse the hobgoblin enough to faintly smile, there was yet more to learn of the others. Some things more personal than others, if given much thought. Yet noting as Torsus had at least some of their characteristics, the hobgoblin eventually leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and silently resolved to be patient.
"Well, I can say from personal experience that Fire Giants are definitively immune to fire. Go figure! So, it stands to reason that Frost Giants are likely the same to their element. As for Hill Giants though, which considering we're likely to be facing them within coming days, as you all know, my people have had cause to deal with them over the years a ways north more than the fire ones. Ogres too as well, but that'a be what you would call side matter, I figure." He said, making a side gesture. "All that said, from our experience, we'll need to bring ever bit of fire power we can to these rather rumbunctious neighbors. As their vitality is without a doubt no joke." He adds, nodding sagely at that.
At that, unless there's more from the others then Narz would acquiesce to Torsus suggestion about turning to bed sooner than later. Granted for him, turning in takes a little bit longer regardless as a slew of various securitymeasures are implemented before the night is done. If Rillex wished, he'd summon his own familiar to keep him company until sleep claimed them all.
Torsus's innuendo goes right over Claire's head, and she simply rolls her eyes. "Hard of hearing, too? I said I wield a lance while mounted," Claire corrects him, and then wonders how old the Tortle is, thinking that may have something to do with his eccentricity, but is unable to guess his age through his unfamiliar reptilian skin. She shrugs to herself, and turns to Aeyd. "It's nice to meet you! Don't spend yourself short, those abilities sound like a great addition to our team."
Once the discussion is over, Claire takes her leave, having agreed to set out in the morning.

Aeyd's brows furrow at Torsus' innuendo's, but they quickly relax as the cleric retorts back, a quiet chuckle leaving her throat. The monk perks up when Claire regards her, and she gives a sheepish smile and curt nod in her direction. "Thank you, Claire. I hope to be able to impress you all with my abilities on the battlefield, and I also look forward to working with you all."At the last bit she regards the rest of the group.
When it looked to be as if the meeting had been adjourned, the elf is the last to leave the room and quietly head towards an area where she could meditate and train for the rest of the day.

You all get the rest of the day to relax and prepare for the journey ahead. Waking up the next day you find that Zack and Nadia have arranged for their cart to be given over to you along with the horses driving them. The carts contents have been removed so you have a fresh cart to store things in. You finally start making your way north along the High Road towards Waterdeep. The trip will take several days so ill need everyone planned watch orders
Torsus will volunteer for the first watches, and will have Hunger of Hadar ready at all times to be as centered as possible due to his own ability to see while never allowing it to hit the camp itself. He will wait to cast it only long enough to confirm if whatever it is is hostile or not, so he doesn't' start murdering random travelers.
Narz will volunteer for last/fourth[?] watch alongside his mount Vigo. Although every night he would perform a little ritual of weaving the a a camoulfaged magical shelter into being for everyone to rest within, the hobgoblin is not one to rely on such magics alone. Heck, and when the dome wasn't a viable option or the resting area had a good point an approaching enemy might ambush them from, he had a Silent Alarm set in place either around them or at least 30ft away.
Spaz the familiar is assigned to help either Rollo or Aeyd, if either one takes a watch. And if both do but not together, then he assigns him to help Aeyd. In such an instance however, Spaz appears as attentive of surroundings as he was Aeyd at times.
Rollo will take the second watch. He casts no spells but as much as he can he spends time before each watch setting up a small hide in the surrounding brush that he can sit in, camouflaged. He will also use speak with animals to ask any local creatures that are around when the group stops about any potential dangers, as well as asking them if they would be kind enough to help warn the group if they spot something.

Aeyd will have no qualms with taking the third watch, using only her senses to aid her. She knew no magic tricks to ward off any potential dangers or to let her see farther than she normally could, though she does appreciate Spaz's assistance. She does catch herself watching the familiar and its mannerisms though, but is quick to regain focus, not wanting her curious mind to be the cause of someone getting injured.

Claire offers to take third watch with Aeyd, taking the time to chit chat and fill the monk in on any more superfluous details of their journey so far if she was so interested. If Rollo makes any animal friends, Claire will maintain a friendly demeanor with the critters, casting Speak with Animals as well. Other than that, she remains prepared to cast Plant Growth to stall any would-be attackers if she notices any, intending to leave a path of escape through the ensuing brush for her and her allies.
With horse and cart you're able to cover much more ground than simply walking which is good as because after the first day of travel it begins to snow. Although only an inch or so of snow is left on the ground the weather looks as though more snow is coming. On the second day you all camp out just South of the path that would lead to Nightstone which some of you may remember from Zacks letter had been your predecessors first encounter with the destructive power of giants. With only a half a days ride ahead of you to Waterdeep, you all elect to simply continue forward in the morning. The watches go by relatively peacefully, it seems most would be troublemakers have decided not to brave the weather and so you are left alone. It is only on the morning of day three that anything different happens.
Narz, you're coming to the end of your watch, already preparing breakfast and readying the cart for travel when your alarm goes off. Your attention is immediately brought to the small copse of trees to the east where you see a small child, no a halfling, running desperately through the woods. When he sees your camp he seems to run right for you. The male halfling looks dirty and disheveled, wearing old rags and worn shoes but carries a fine looking dagger on his belt. The rest of the party wakes up and joins you just as the halfing gets within 10ft of Narz. Hey you, buddy! Help a halfing out would ya? I need to hide and fast! An angry friend of mine will be cresting that hill any minute now! If he asks tell him I went South! There's a sack of gold in it for ya! No time to talk just get him off my back! Without waiting for confirmation or even so much as a word of recognition the halfling runs North and dissapears behind some trees. True to his word, shortly after a human male, pale with shaved hair, light leather armor and dark cloak, crests the hill looking quite red in the face. As soon as he sees the parties camp he calls out from the top of the hill. Hey you there! You see a gods cursed halfling run through this way!?
"Looking all disheveled with a fine looking dagger? Passed by just a bit ago! What's you're business with him?" Claire asks.
Insight on the Halfling- did it seem like he was in distress, running for his life or mischievous, trying to a make a break for it with stolen good or something? 10
(Passive insight is 18, btw, in case the new guy lies.)

"Ah... It's my turn then, I suppose?" She would inquire first before continuing. "They've... blessed me with their knowledge and I've been able to hone some of their power into my fighting." Her hands close.

Does Narz Get the Innuendo: 4.
(Just for funsies)
Granted for him, turning in takes a little bit longer regardless as a slew of various security measures are implemented before the night is done.

Rollo just grunts. "On that note, are we done here? There's giants to be killed."

I hope to be able to impress you all with my abilities on the battlefield, and I also look forward to working with you all." At the last bit she regards the rest of the group.
