It took a moment to dawn on Elwin that the battle had already ended. Frowning a bit, he rubbed his temple; there was no physical pain, but it seemed to help the headache that the psychic assault had left him with.
He watched the others attend to the flames around him, then looked toward the Mind Flayer. It lay dead on top of the now-wet bar, its head bashed in by... someone? Glancing at X, then at Tam, he realized it couldn't have been them; he also suddenly realized how serious their situation had been.
Elwin walked over to the aberration, raised his hand high, then drove his spear down into its chest, leaving it sticking straight up. Part of it was petty spite... the creature HAD nearly killed them, after all. And part of it was also to ensure the thing was dead. That certainly couldn't hurt. But the main reason was just to set his spear somewhere out of the way without having to dismiss it.
Exhaling to calm himself as he turned around, he noticed the gypsies on the floor. "What a mess," he thought to himself as he shook his head and moved to examine them for injuries.
Tam buries her head into Tori's shoulder, grabbing onto her for dear life. Her sanity felt like it had been slipping, quickly.
She sobbed for a moment, releasing the terror and bringing herself back to center.
Raising her head to loom into Tori's eyes, "I relived it all. Every order, every regret. Your father, the bargin. I couldn't, shouldn't... I'm sorry. It was all too much. I was useless to help you, as usual." Tam gets up slowly and turns back to Tori, "Do you think there's another in the sewers?"
Torment gives Tamlynn a squeeze and sad-eyed sigh. "It will always be part of who we are, my friend."
Taking a look at the chaos around them Tori frowns and whispers - "I wonder if what is in the sewers might be much worse... the Illithids are known to keep questionable company; Beholders are even cookie shaped."
Hearing a wet sound of flesh and bones rending, she turns quickly to catch Elwin stabbing the dead creature. Laughing halfheartedly, she says "I was wondering when you'd get around to attacking."
Frustrated at his own medical ineptitude, Elwin rose from the floor. "Someone else can look to them," he grimly thought.
But then he looked around at the tavern. X was still trying to recover from the assault, Tam had been... broken? At least for a moment. And while Torment had apparently fared the best of them, even she was injured. Frustrating turning to anger, the warlock hoped that maybe Gavin could take care of the Gypsies. The rest of them would take out the thing that had launched this attack. They had to!
But... again looking at everyone, reality sank in. Rushing off full of rage wouldn't work. They needed to tend to their wounds first. But at least the foul monster behind all this had tipped his (their?) hand.
Elwin walked back toward the Alchemist, retrieving one of his healing potions as he went. Entering the man's room, he tossed the potion onto the bed. "In case you missed the commotion," he explained, "the enemy just attacked. Fortunately, he failed to kill us. So now we know what we really need. I'll be taking apotion of psychic resistance, if you have one. Oh, and you might want to pull some for the others as well."
Elwin will swap out one of his greater healing potions for a potion of psychic resistance. Also, since we're going to need another rest, I'll go ahead and expend a few Hit Dice to shore his health back up:
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
X deciced to sit down in one of the chairs a bit degected by the fight looking over at Tori before looking down a bit. He almost felt as if he had let his friend down. He tried not to dewl on it to long but this was probably the first people he could really call a friend.

Tam takes a few moment to examine the Gypsies. They are all still breathing, but their minds have been affected permanently...they are all drooling, and slightly convulsing...
At this point, only a Lesser Restoration spell would cure them from this vegetative state...
Tam finds Gavin and gives him the news he probably already knows, "Tell me you have access to that spell, at least for a few of them? Their clansmen should know directly from them. Maybe the can help us in other ways?" She looks into his face and imploringly says, "We aren't equipped for this kind of power. You're amazing and tough, so is Tori. The rest of us are just sitting ducks. We need different kinds of protection. The only place I know to get such things is far away and guarded underground. Please tell me you know of somewhere closer. Please."
Gathering herself, "We have a battle to win underground. That's where I do my best work and where this is going to end. If you can't find us the right equipment, then we'll find those who can. No matter the cost. *pointing to the gypsies* They paid with everything, but their lives. I'm ready to give up mine to avenge them and save whomever I can up here. Can you help or know someone who can?"
I'm guessing the Party takes at least a short rest?
Tori looks around in exasperation - "Well I, for one, need to sleep. My head is killing me and I need some time to process all this... Tam, why don't you rest too? You're not thinking straight."
(OOC - Tori is taking a long rest y'all. This is not a situation to waste an opportunity to take a safe long rest. She's too many spell slots down to go into battle effectively and I need to rearrange my my prepared spells)
Quick rewind to Elwin: YES, the Alchemist does so happen to have 4 remaining potions of psychic resistance...
Gavin nods at Tam, scratching his beard, still splattered with blueish goo...
"Quite honestly, the only Blokes I know who could possibly help us here would be good old Father William, at the Church of Meryn....and Thanicles..."
He shakes his head...
"I can't believe I'm even sayin' this, but I wish someone would bust that crazy old Wizard out of Extra-Planar jail. He may be a danger to the entire Multiverse, but I swear to Moradin almighty...when he's sober enough to actually cast spells, there ain't nothin' he can't do...I mean..."
(Gavin points at his trophy wall, where an enormous tentacle has been stuffed, and hangs intimidatingly above the bar...the color of the tentacle isn't entirely unlike the Mind Flayer's tentacles...)
"He was the one who brought THAT ******* thing into me' bar. He's also the one who brought the whole building alive in the first place...sure, it's now an extra-Dimensional building with Chicken legs hanging over a Mountain, with the best spot in the City...but when this thing was rampaging around the City because he passed out drunk, it wasn't so fun...I'm just sayin', if someone was actually crazy enough to try and bust him out of Jail, from the Planar Rangers, nonetheless...he could be the Deus Ex Machina of this whole War...
When he's finished she looks to Tori, pleadingly, "I feel responsible. I watched Quickblade die, then the rest go down in short order without being able to do a damn thing about it. How could I not?! You won the day, Tori..and Gavin. I was a puddle on the floor."
Sighing heavily, "Maybe you're right, maybe I'm not thinking straight and rest will do me some good. But, needing better options to combat that thing isn't going to change for me. I can lead you to it, find it in the bleakest of places. But, I'm not sure I can fight it without being a liability."
She looks to Gavin again and speaks to the group, "If this crazy old wizard could be the key, then I say we break his ass outta jail. We're freakin' insane enough to go there, so why not. We hit up everything and everyone to help us. After we get some rest, I feel like crap."
OOC: One of the first Players from early Team3 had suggested going after Thanicles. The story ended up going a different route, but as part of the "Sandbox effect", the mission is still up in the air, somewhere...
Just to speed things along, Elwin's going to hand out the potions of psychic resistance. Anyone who doesn't want to take one, can decline, and he'll just return the rest to the Alchemist. If your character grabs one, then you can hand Elwin back a potion you already got from the Alchemist to swap one out. Or, just take it, and don't swap... story-wise, that's between you and Grotex.
Elwin walks back into the tavern's main area, having heard the others.
"I agree, Torment: a good rest before heading out is probably better. I know I'm eager to take this creep's head off, but we've got to be prepared."
He holds up three potions. "These will help us resist any more Mind Flayers we run across; I squeezed them out of the Alchemist. Take one if you need to."
Tori gives X a wide eyed look and exhales deeply. "I've been through worse! And you?"
She sees Tam struggling then and sidles up next to her, putting a sympathetic arm around her. "You gonna make it there, my Pretty Little Tiger?"
