Guilliame spends time working on his additions to the image while waiting for his lunch to arrive. He is getting close to what he can see in his mind's eye when the woman arrives with a steaming bowl and a foaming mug.
"Hmm, not bad," she says looking critically at his handiwork as she put the food down. "It's obvious that you are unfamiliar with the medium, so to get so far on your first attempt shows promise. What do you do for a living normally?"

Then, her attention being momentarily drawn away by someone entering the tavern, she adds, "Anyway, this has been pleasant, but I should get back to it. Please enjoy your meal."
With that, she hurries off to see to the new customer.

Guilliame arrives back at the shop to find Granny Naomi chatting with a neighbour, Mrs Brown, over a cup of char.
"Hello, Guilliame," says Granny Naomi. "Ada just dropped in for a bit of a chin wag. Would you like a cup of char?"
Then she asks slyly, "How was your morning? Did you learn any new spells?"
Guilliame is very much aware that Mrs Brown is very much impressed by the fact that Guilliame is an alumni of the School of Occult Studies. He is also aware that Granny Naomi does not mind skiting about it to her whenever she gets the chance.

"No luck, I'm afraid. I'm going to try again tomorrow but get some professional help. I might try some artwork on the front window some time with a Prestidigitation spell. Might attract some comment. It will only last an hour though."
The Western End District farmer's market should indeed be closed on Holydays, which makes it a good time to see the lay of the land without too many people about.
Saying goodbye to Granny Naomi and Mrs Brown, Guilliame makes his way westward through the quiet streets. While most businesses are closed, there are entertainers in the streets and various couples and family groups are taking advantage of the fine weather to take an afternoon to stroll around the town.
Guilliame reaches the site of the West End District farmer's market to find that it is not empty. Instead, he finds it is being used for a mumblety-peg competition.
In the variant being played, the object of the game is to make the other player fall over from having to spread their legs too far apart. The players begin facing each other some distance apart with their own heels and toes touching, and take turns attempting to throw their knives into the ground outboard of the other player's feet. If the knife sticks, the other player must move his foot out to where the knife stuck while keeping the other foot in place, provided the distance between foot and knife is about twelve inches or less. Play continues until one player falls or is unable to make the required stretch, at which point, all bets placed on the game are settled.
The participants in this possibly dangerous game all appear to be workers from the nearby timber district and they have brought with them a small keg, which they have broached and are taking mugs of drink from as they play the game. There are a few women with them, most of whom look like they are of loose morals, and it seems that most people are having a good time. Even the one man with a bleeding foot doesn't seem to be complaining too much; Guilliame would know that he would have won his match because of his opponent's lousy aim.

Have a look at the crowd and see if there are any familiar faces. Are there street kids hanging round? If there is no one that Guilliame recognises go up and have a closer look at the competition for a couple of turns. If nothing extraordinary happens and no one approaches then move off for a quick survey of the land.
Guilliame can see no one he recognises in this crowd, but does see a couple of town guards casually watching the proceedings from a distance.
He moves closer to watch the mumblety-peg and begins to appreciate the skill involved as he sees many players forfeit their turn by trying for the win to soon and 'sticking' their daggers too far away from their opponent's feet.

"Yes, surprisingly," says one of the guards, a shorter Stemian with an engaging smile. "Considering the king's recent decree, we were told to expect trouble this Holyday."
"But there's been none so far," adds the other guard, a taller man of obvious Sorendenese ancestry. "Which I am all for."
"Is there anything we can do to help you?" asks the first, looking back at the mumblety-peg players. "I take it you're not here for the sport."

[Make a Performance check. The DC to do this and have the intended drawing recognisable is 12.
Edit: Or a straight Dexterity check, whichever is you wish.
Mechanically, the first will give you a better chance to gain experience if you fail, the latter is more likely to achieve the effect.]

"Oooh, artwork," says Mrs Brown, eyes wide. "I haven't heard of that type of magic before. What does it do?"
Granny rolls her eyes and then pats her friend of the arm and says, "No need to explain, Guilliame. I will tell her all about it later."
Then she gets to her feet and begins making char for Guilliame, after a giving him a knowing wink.

If the western district markets are closed then go down there. Have a look around. Don't go down the dark alleys too far.
