"There is nothing I would like to do more Velma, but I have to get home to look after my grandmother. We have had troubles at the shop and I need to be there. We will arrange another soon, I promise."

Despite his assurances, Velma looks a little rejected as Guilliame removes himself from her arms and begins to dress.

Then, as she helps him ease into his coat, she asks "When will I see you next?" 

"I'll see you the day after tomorrow at the library. I want to tomorrow but I want to make sure I am in peak physical condition when we next meet. We can talk more then."

Velma is very quiet as Guilliame prepares to leave. "I will see you the day after tomorrow, then," she says as she sees him to the door.

"Be careful on the way home. Good night, Guilliame, and thanks again," she says and then closes the door.

Guilliame is now outside in the street again, with the rain still coming down.

Move along close to one side of the road keeping an eye out own alley ways and looking. Keep an ear out. Go by the largest, best lit streets.

Guilliame reaches home to find Granny Naomi still awake, sitting up in the kitchen drinking a warm drink.

"Did you have a nice time?" she asks as he dries off his waterproof coat with his magic.

Then, when she sees his bloodied shirt, she struggles to her feet, saying, "What's happened? Were you attacked again?"

"At least this time was wild animals rather than vindictive humans. I was punctured by a stirge."

"A stirge," says Granny Naomi a little surprised. "Nasty buggers those, used to be lots of them near the river. When I first married your grandfather, you couldn't go outside at night without carrying a torch to ward them off."

Then she grabs Guilliame by the arm and pulls him towards the table. " I'll go and get my kit. You get your top off and let me have a look at the wound."

[I will presume Guilliame does as he is told, but if you don't want him to do this, let me know and we will step back a bit.]

Guilliame removes his punctured shirt and vest and then sits at the table so Granny Naomi can check his bandages, which has come a bit loose, allowing a small trickle of blood to escape.

"Who did this?" asks Naomi as she unties the bandage to reveal the blood-stained cloth pad over the wound.

"Velma. The girl I had dinner with. Is it a good job?"

"Really?" ask Granny Naomi, a smile on her face. "Do you have a girlfriend, Guilliame?"

"I guess I do. How does the wound look?"

Granny Naomi smiles and then removes the bandage and the bloody pad of cloth covering the wound and takes a good look at it.

"Nothing major damaged," she says, "And it doesn't look like the creature got the chance to suck any blood out as there is no bruising around the wound. It looks like you were pretty lucky."

She then digs into her medicine satchel and pulls out a pot of salve. "I'm going to put some of this on the wound to stop it festering. That and a good night's sleep and you should be good as new."

The salve she puts onto the wound stings for a moment but the pain is gone by the time she has finished retying Velma's bandage in a manner which is less likely to come loose.

[OCC: Guilliame can now have a short rest and can roll some hit dice to recover some hit points with Granny Naomi's salve adding a +1 to the roll of any dice. As a 2nd level fighter and a 1st level wizard, he has 2d10s and 1d6 as hit dice. His Constitution bonus gives him +1 per die roll and the salve will also give him plus 1 per die roll, so if he only rolls one die (no matter its type), he will regain at least 3 hit points. Also, when he sleeps tonight (i.e., has a long rest), he will regain half his hit dice rounding down. This means, if Guilliame rolls one die now, he will recover it overnight. However, if he rolls two or three, he will still only recover 1 dice overnight. So, how many dice does Guilliame want to roll and what type (i.e., either a d6 or d10s)?]

"Now," she says, "I'm going to make us both a nice cup of char and then you can tell me all about this Velma you mentioned."

[OOC: Sure, as long as it is followed by something non-strenuous which makes up the hour. Long rests are more rigorous as to what you can and can't do.

With regard to rolling hit dice: In this situation, I would suggest you just roll the one d6, because even if you do roll a 1 or a 2 you will only be down at most two hit points anyway.

Unless, you want Guilliame to do something else, we can now consider the short rest over and you should roll hit dice.]

"That's excellent news, Guilliame," says Granny Naomi, a smile on her face. "I would like to meet this woman. Did you say her name was Velma? So, she is Stemian then?

"Yes. I suggested that we and her mother get together for a meal but she said her mother can't get out. Perhaps we can have dinner together at the Scholar's retreat in a a couple of nights."

"The Scholar's Retreat," says Granny Naomi. "That's posh and sounds like a great idea... But don't remember we have to pay our taxes at the end of the month."
