Relief comes over Narim's face and Guilliame can't help but notice that the master's eyes glance to the second storey of the Library before a smile comes to his lips.

The smile then fades as Narim considers what else Guilliame said. "What is this about working for the guard?" he asks. "What about my offer of a tutorship helping me train the young ones in skill at arms?"

"I am hoping to take up that offer as well. This might freshen up my skills a bit."

Narim smiles and says, "Good. Come and see me tomorrow and we will talk about." He then turns to Mistress Althea and says, "Well that is one problem sorted. Let us go get a drink."

The two then say goodbye to Guilliame and begin walking towards the Administration building again.

Not long after, Velma arrives back at the entrance to the Library and closes it up for the night. The two of them then walk to the front gate and exit the School out onto the street busy with people heading home at the end of a long day.

Heading in the direction of Velma's home at the western end of the island, Velma starts chatting. "So," she begins, "have you ever had to use that sword? Have you ever killed anyone?"

"I have fought a few times and had to look after myself but I've never killed anyone. Hopefully the threat will be enough tonight. And a sleep or charm person spell if that isn't enough. But I guess I'll use it if I have to."

Velma seems satisfied with this answer and takes Guilliame's arm as they walk west through the ward chatting and enjoying each other's company in the cool evening air. Guilliame does note, however, that the people they pass in the street do seem a bit wary of him and his sword.

Arriving at the entrance to Velma's street, she says, "Thank you for walking me home, Guilliame, but I will make my own way from here."

She then gives him a lingering kiss and adds, "Please take care of yourself tonight and I will want to hear all about it tomorrow."

[OOC: I'll stop now in case you want Guilliame to say anything to Velma before he heads off towards the guard post.]

"I'm going to speak to Master Narim about a position teaching arms at the school tomorrow. I'm hoping I can continue learning more magick. Maybe I'll have to let the guarding go. We'll see."

[OOC: Let me know if you want to do or say anything else with Velma and we can re-do what happens below.]

"Teaching at the School would be good," says Velma. "It is not a bad place to work. But that is something for tomorrow. I want you to take good care of yourself tonight."

She punctuates her last sentence with another kiss and then heads off up the street in the direction of the house she shares with her mother, waving goodbye to Guilliame as she goes.

Guilliame turns and heads off back in the direction they came. The streetlights in this part of town are non-existent and he is quickly losing what little light there is of the sunset and so he, like many of others in the street around him—people obviously making their way home from work—begins to walk more quickly.

Passing a side street, he casually sees a solitary figure in a cloak walking in his direction. At first he thinks nothing about it and then he notices the gleam of a helmet on the person's head.

"You!" says a woman's voice. "Halt!"

[OOC: Morning Andrew. Just made a minor change to Guilliame's character sheet so that it made more sense. I have changed his proficiency with Alchemist's supplies that he had as his Background tool kit proficiency to a proficiency with Brewer's supplies, which I feel is more in line with his family's trade and fits in with his proficiency with a Herbalism Kit. Let me know if you have a problem with this.]

"Good evening. What can I do for you?"

As the woman approaches, Guilliame can make out that under the cloak she is wearing the armour of a city guard; she also has a scimitar at her belt.

"That sword," the woman says in Stemian. "You cannot just walk around the streets wearing a sword... Explain yourself or I will have to confiscate it."

Now that he can see her better, Guilliame can see that, while she does not have her hand on her sword, she is holding a small truncheon in her right hand that is partly being covered by her cloak.

"It is my first night working with the guard tonight. I have a Writ of dispensation. Allow me to show it to you."

Slowly start reaching for the letter.

The woman stays at a wary distance and keeps her eyes on Guilliame's face as he pulls out the writ given to him by the sheriff and it is only when he holds it out towards her that she looks down ... and ignores the proffered writ, instead saying, "What that on your arm?"

When he turns to show the armband the sheriff provided, the woman visibly relaxes and looks a little confused. "So, you are the magus we are supposed to protect tonight? It looks to me like you should be the one protecting us."

As she says this, the truncheon disappears back to where it came from under the folds of her cloak.

"I think there may be a misunderstanding. My name is Guilliame de Marchant. I was going to work at the station tonight. I didn't think I would be under protection."

The guardswoman shrugs her shoulders and says, "I was just told we had have a magus with us tonight—someone in need of physical protection... But it looks like you know how to handle yourself, which will make things a lot easier."

The woman then gestures in the direction Guilliame was walking and says, "I am just on my way to the guard station now, so we may as well walk together. My name is Alice by the way. Nice to meet you Master de Guilliame."

The two move on a little way before Alice asks, "So, you live in this part of town? ... That is a little strange for someone with your name and profession."

[OOC: Just to make it clear, this conversation is all happening in Stemian and Guilliame is significantly taller than Alice.]

"I come from a complicated background. My name has opened a few doors that might otherwise be closed but my profession really comes from Stemian knowledge of plants."

"So, you are wise in the old ways," says Alice, as the two walk in the direction of the School and the richer part of the Ward. "But are you also a sorcerer? Someone who can see magick? None of my hand has the gift and it would be a big benefit to our work."

"I can see it and have a few spells that may prove useful under the right circumstances. And I can handle this sword if required."

"Good," says Alice with a nod as the two continue walking. "This has turned out much better than I expected."

Then, after a pause, she asks, "So, you live around here? I do not remember seeing you before, which is a little strange. I have lived in this part of the island all my life."

"The family shop, Masterful mixtures is in the Scholar's ward. Do you know it?"

"Yes, I know it. It is near the School," says Alice, nodding. "But that is a long way from here... Do not tell me you got lost on the way to the guard station?"
