This basement seems to be mainly used for storage with numerous barrels, boxes and odd piles of belongings scattered about.
For Guilliame:

For Dora:
[OOC: As well as what can be seen on the map, you can hear the distant stamping of Apprentice Cullen's boots coming from the direction of the top right-hand corner of the map. Also, as you were coming down the stairs you heard what sounded like the tinkle of a muffled bell from beneath and behind the stairs.]

[OOC: Assuming Guilliame's See the Arcane cantrip is still working at this point (Note: It and Dancing Lights are both Concentration spells and so only one can be operating at a time), he notices a faint glow of magic coming from the bottom half of the right-hand wall just above where the stairs appear on the map. You can see an updated version of the map showing where this glow is on the Brassman page on World Anvil.
Also, please make an Arcana check to try to determine the domain on this magic, if any.]

"If it is an alarm spell wouldn't you expect it to be louder, I could barely hear it and you didn't."
Dora examines the stairs as well , methodically checking each riser and step by knocking it with the hilt of her scimitar.
[OOC: After letting the sheriff get down the stairs, Dora discovers that the whole of the second step from the bottom does indeed give slightly, but Dora hears no repeat of the tinkling sound, despite actively listening for it. However, to find out what, if anything, this slight movement activated would require doing serious damage to the staircase.]

To Guilliame and the Sheriff "the second step from the bottom moves but I don't see that we can go any further examining it without tools and time."
"So," begins the sheriff. "It obviously wasn't a trigger for a trap, so it must be an alarm system... But surely the person it was supposed to warn is lying upstairs on the floor dead... Do you think perhaps that Brassman's killer is down here somewhere?"
On saying this, the sheriff draws his dagger, instead of his sword, and begins looking around the basement warily.

[OOC: The domain of the spell that Guilliame can see is that of Illusion. The spell itself is not very powerful and Guilliame is probably surprised that it has out lasted its caster, presuming Saladin Brassman was indeed the person who cast the spell.]

From his experience with his own Minor Illusion cantrip, Guilliame knows that he should also be able to see anything that the illusion was supposed to hide.
