"Bigger than the cat..." says Basilly, staring intently at the wall. "Though not as big as a man."
Basilly then approaches the wall where Guilliame thinks there is a hidden door. "I wonder why this illusion only hides half the door. That is odd. Any thoughts, Guilliame?"
"Let us not worry about that now," says the sheriff, interrupting Basilly's musing. "There is a door to get through, with a potential threat on the other side. We should prepare ourselves... How do you suggest we do that?"
"We have to work out how to open the door," replies Basilly. "I cannot detect any magical mechanism, so there could be either some hidden lever somewhere or the mechanism needs magic to work. Once we do that, you should let me go first."

For Dora:
Having commented aloud about why someone might want to have a latch on the inside of this door, Dora is about to head back down the stairs when she hears a sudden rushing sound from below and shouts of pain and confusion from Basilly. What she can see of the basement is now full of acrid smoke full of bright red sparks.
[OOC: In her next turn, she will need to redraw her scimitar, if that is what you want her to do.]
For Guilliame:
In the dim light, Guilliame has just located the tools he saw earlier and is just deciding which to take when he hears Basilly behind him say, "Here it is."
"Maybe you should...," begins the sheriff casually.
Suddenly, the light dims and Guilliame both feels and hears a sudden rushing of hot air behind him as the basement suddenly seems to fill with smoke and flying sparks and he hears a cry of pain an confusion from Basilly.
Whirling round, Guilliame can see little detail of what is happening because of the smoke, but the sheriff's candle is now no longer visible and instead Guilliame can see the silhouette of someone with their hand up in front of their eyes against the glow of some light source from beyond where the hidden door was in the wall.
"I cannot see," shouts Basilly in the dim light and then Guilliame see the silhouette of the sheriff pull Basilly away from the entrance of the now open room.

I realise Basilly is under attack and knowing that if he is overwhelmed then the rest of us stand little chance, I draw my scimitar and rush yelling down the stairs, at the very least I can divert the attention of the attacker and give the others an opportunity to fight.

Reaching the bottom, she draws her scimitar and spins around the corner prepared to fight.
For Dora:
In front of Dora is an open doorway that leads into a room full of smoke that is lit by a bright flickering flame that is mounted on the right-hand wall of the secret room. The light reminds Dora of the eternal flame that is mounted above her Watch Post in the Scholars Ward and is no doubt magical. However, the smoke makes the rest of what is in the room hard to see.
Through the smoke, the sheriff and Basilly can be just be made out off to her left [OOC: In the top right-hand corner of the map] and she can hear Basilly cursing the fact that he cannot see.
[OOC: Dora has no relevant Bonus Action at the moment, but has some of her Move left and could use it to move into the empty room with an Attack readied in case something were to come at her out of the smoke. However, because of the acrid smoke, any Attack would be done at Disadvantage. Similarly, if she decides to do a Perception check for her Action, that would also be at Disadvantage because of the smoke, as mentioned in a previous post.
You can also do something else, if you wish. The above are just suggestions based on the combat mechanics of the game.]

There is no way I am going into a room with some kind of magickal creature in it. I take up a defensive pose at the doorway and strain to see inside. At the same time calling out "Basilly are you alright?"

Eyes stinging from the acrid smoke, Dora tries to peer into the secret room but can still make out nothing but the bright flame mounted on the right-hand wall.

In reply to Dora asking about her health, Guilliame hears Basilly say in a hoarse voice that he got hot cinders in his eyes and cannot see.

Mechanically, Guilliame's move consists of a Free Action in picking up the sledgehammer and then a part Move to place himself off to one side of the newly opened door with an Attack with the sledgehammer Readied in case something comes through the door.

Guilliame grabs up the sledgehammer and wades through the smoke to where he believes Basilly and the sheriff must be.
Through the smoke he sees the sheriff standing protectively in front of Basilly who is desperately rubbing his eyes with the back of one of his hands, while his other hand clutches his fighting stick.
Meanwhile, Dora has been staring grimly through the opened secret door, vainly trying to use her lit candle to make things clearer.
[OOC: It is now Enemy 1's turn, which is described below.]
A faint whispering sound becomes audible from the smoke-filled corridor and suddenly the light in the secret room increases in intensity.
For Dora:
Even with her poor Perception check, Dora sees the light on the wall become brighter as a glowing orange figure of about man size seems to emerge from the flames to hover about 6' off the floor. The creature then turns in her direction and flies directly at her. At the very last moment, the figure lifts itself up above her head as she instinctively ducks out of the way. It is seemingly intent on getting past her.
[OOC: As the creature is passing through Dora's Zone of Control, she is able to get what is called an Attack of Opportunity against it with her weapon, at Disadvantage in this case because of the close quarters and the smoke. This uses her Reaction and will have no effect on her next turn, it is basically a free attack for her.]
For Guilliame:
Andrew, with the brightening of the light from the room, Guilliame is given warning that something is happening, but I will wait until after Dora responds before telling you what it is because Guilliame is not in a position to see at this moment.

Guilliame grabs up the sledgehammer and wades through the smoke to where he believes Basilly and the sheriff must be.
Through the smoke he sees the sheriff standing protectively in front of Basilly who is desperately rubbing his eyes with the back of one of his hands, while his other hand clutches his fighting stick.
Meanwhile, Dora has been staring grimly through the opened secret door, vainly trying to use her lit candle to make things clearer.
[OOC: It is now Enemy 1's turn, which is described below.]
A faint whispering sound becomes audible from the smoke-filled corridor and suddenly the light in the secret room increases in intensity.
For Dora:
Even with her poor Perception check, Dora sees the light on the wall become brighter as a glowing orange figure of about man size seems to emerge from the flames to hover about 6' off the floor. The creature then turns in her direction and flies directly at her. At the very last moment, the figure lifts itself up above her head as she instinctively ducks out of the way. It is seemingly intent on getting past her.
[OOC: As the creature is passing through Dora's Zone of Control, she is able to get what is called an Attack of Opportunity against it with her weapon, at Disadvantage in this case because of the close quarters and the smoke. This uses her Reaction and will have no effect on her next turn, it is basically a free attack for her.]
For Guilliame:
Andrew, with the brightening of the light from the room, Guilliame is given warning that something is happening, but I will wait until after Dora responds before telling you what it is because Guilliame is not in a position to see at this moment.
