I hold my light up and look around, Brassman was a single man who did not have a live-in housekeeper and I am sure if he had a woman come in to clean that he would have not encouraged her to visit the cellar if there were secrets. I look at the floor to see where paths and tracks in the dust would indicate that Brassman had regularly walked.

For Dora:
[OOC: Excellent idea, and I would have asked for a roll, though it would have most likely been a roll based on Wisdom (Perception).
This roll is, however, a failure for both. Here is Dora's roll for experience:8

Unfortunately, Dora is unable to make out any pattern in the tracks on the floor, of which there is very little sign anyway.
"What are you doing, Handleader?" asks the sheriff, as he comes into sight after having apparently successfully circled the pillar in the middle of the room.
The Sheriff no longer seems interested in what I was looking for. I listen to see if I can still hear Basilly overhead.
For Dora:
Basilly's presence is no longer immediately noticeable.
With regard to the lumber, while the foundation and basement are made of morticed stone, the ground and upper floors of the building look to be structurally made of wood. [OOC: Also, I didn't want to have just an empty space and used the first thing I could find that was relatively large ;-) ]
The sheriff just shrugs at Dora's question, and her lack of answer, and then says, "I do not know, but it is all neatly stacked and bound, so I do not think it is dangerous."
Then he turns back to Guilliame and adds, "Well, Master de Marchant? Shall we investigate this door, or do we need to wait for Apprentice Cullen to join us?"

I walk up the stairs by the light of my oil burner and out of the cellar and continue walking to where I last saw Basilly. My scimitar is still in my preferred hand.
With the sheriff's agreement, Dora goes looking for Basilly.
For Guilliame.
With the departure of Dora with her oil lamp, Guilliame and the sheriff find themselves sharing the light from the candle the sheriff is holding.
In the now-darker room, the sheriff breaks the momentary silence by asking, "Do you really think Saladin Brassman is some sort of black magician, Guilliame? I have known the man for many years and never even suspected. He has been exemplary in his service to me, and to the Crown."
For Dora:
Climbing back up the stairs, Dora finds Basilly just entering the kitchen.
"Ahhh, there you are?" Basilly says. "If there is a trapdoor in that boot room, then it is well hidden. What have you found?"

"I saw what the Identify spell told me of his links to Shari. He seems to have gone to some effort to hide a spellbook other than his standard one. There are some notes he was keeping about Mithran religion that may reveal more. He is certainly keen to hide something."

"The handleader said something about an illusion," he says, looking at Guilliame. "Where?"
