Zeno looks up from his position sitting by the wall. “We need a way to neutralize those nets. I’ll be looking to move to a hiding place quickly, to shoot them from cover, but those nets took time to escape from.” He chewed his lip thoughtfully, “Also, we may want to stay away from the water. Not sure what it really is that these beings are worshiping, but You have to figure it’s got something to do with that lake, right?”
Since arriving in the village, Sarith has been even more quiet and withdrawn than usual, and curls up in a corner apparently in a trance.
In contrast, Derendil is exceptionally talkative, listening eagerly to the discussion on tactics, and noting how as an elven prince he managed to broker peace between several warring parties in the High Forest, including between a green dragon and its kobold worshipers and a conclave of dryads represented by unicorn. (Rhayna, curiously, despite being an avid student of history, doesn't recall any of the events that Derendil describes, and thinks the last one is particularly outlandish).
Jimjar isn't one for history or combat talk, and amuses himself by picking the lock on the closet, opening it easily and finding it crammed with all manner of interesting junk, which he commences to dig through.
Shuushar also takes no part in the discussion, claiming that if he has any hope of bringing sense to his race he must remain neutral and hold to his ideals of non-violence.
Stool wanders timidly around the hovel, never straying far from Rhayna but also curiously peeking out the door to watch the strange behaviour of the kuo-toa.

While her colleagues discuss the next course of action. Rhayna wonders around the small hovel looking for some items. She remembers that once she saw a priestess of Selune toss a bunch of items on a table. The priestess claimed that she would receive an omen from the Goddess herself. Well, Rhayna figures, since they are not going anywhere...
She goes to the closet that Jimjar picked open, and find some other items that she might be able to use. She sits down on the floor, legs crossed, and closing her hands with the items inside, she meditates for a little while. After a time, she tosses the items on the ground in front of her. Rhayna heads over to the closet as Jimjar is digging through with great interest. Among all the miscellaneous brassware, pottery, leather and other obvious detritus, he has already found various bags and pouches of coins, along with other loose coins, some potion vials (both empty and full), and a watertight scroll case. Rhayna dismisses all the items as unsuitable, until Jimjar whistles and pulls out a strand of matching pearls. Would ye look at that! I bet yez 5 gold this here be worth mo- but he doesn't finish his sentence as Rhayna snatches up the string with an exclamation of how perfect this will be for her divination. Jimjar protests vehemently, but Rhayna assures him she will only need them for a moment, and she kneels down to cast her spell.
Intoning the words of the spell, Rhayna gently waves the string of pearls in a small circle, then watches carefully as she lowers them to the ground. Although their arrangement appears to have no pattern at first, they slowly seem to form a geometric device that gives Rhayna a sense of comfort. But just as the last pearl falls the pattern shifts and the geometry is broken, and Rhayna feels a sharp premonition of dread. It is just at this moment that the high priest returns, beckoning the 'captives' to come as the time of the ritual is at hand. Rhayna snatches up the pearls, unsure of the exact meaning of the augury, but sure that their immediate course would have consequences of both weal and woe.
Feel free to continue to describe any other conversation or actions that take place here before the priest arrives.

Rhayna is shaken by what she just experienced. It takes her a moment for her to get her bearings. She looks for Stool with a panicked look on her face. "Stool, come to me. No matter what happens, stay close to me. Perhaps, it's best for you to stay in the backpack for now. I also need your help. Please use your spores, I need to warn our friends."
After Stool uses his spores. Rhayna telepathically speaks to the group. "Friends!! I have a bad feeling about this. Something terrible or good??" She makes a weird face. "Is about to happen. At any rate, we must be careful out there."
(OCC: We do not have the benefit of a long rest correct? Rhayna is out of spell slots.)

Zeno digs through the collection of objects with Jimjar, shaking his head at his distraction that made him not check the closet himself. He will help gather coins and bottles. If they have time he will examine the bottles or pass them to the more magically inclined.
He looks around at the others as the priest opens the door, then addresses the kuo-toa, “Would it be possible for a few of us to go separately and strike from hiding? Surely you don’t need all of us as an offering. If not, we should at least make sure that our more sturdy folks stay on the outside, to defend the casters.”
All in the hovel rise to exit, as Ploop beckons them forward. He touches a small triangular model to Kaylyn, Kastix and Joetaro, speaking some divine words, and they find they can understand his speech. Ploopploopeen then informs Shuushar that his daughter Bloppblippodd has no intention of sacrificing him, at which Shuushar resumes his seated position and commences meditating. Jimjar, having nowhere to stash his loot, surreptitiously stows it in Zeno's pack. (To be honest, I don't remember WHO has a pack.) In answer to Zeno's and Kaylyn's questions (which Kaylyn can now magically ask in Undercommon), Ploop assures them that it must be now and it must be everyone, or that his daughter will grow suspicious. Outside the hovel twelve soldiers loyal to the priestess of the Deep Father stand in the darkness ready to escort the group. Ploop informs them that he and his whip (a term for a junior priest, referring to his son Gloog) will accompany the prisoners.
As the group follows the priest toward the lake, flanked by the guards, the crowds of ever-moving kuo-toa thicken considerably, until the group are passing through a dark flood of several hundred kuo-toa, which flows around them while chanting Leemooggoogoon! in unison. It is easy to understand Ploop's (and the guards') indifference to whether or not the captors retained their weapons, as the throngs of kuo-toa would make fighting futile, and escape near-impossible, save perhaps for casting oneself into the black depths of the lake. The kuo-toa parade in a wide circle around a point at the water's edge, and their path sends them splashing and wading through the shallows of the Darklake. The axis of their motion is soon revealed as the group passes slowly through the crowd.
The idol to Leemooggoogoon the Deep Father is a hideous construction. It consists of a large leather hide stretched out between four support poles, at the center of which a dead, splayed-out manta ray is pinned. Two dead octopuses are draped across the top, their tentacles pinned and artfully arrayed, their heads tied together and painted with red and blue pigments. The idol reeks of decay, and the broad stone altar below the idol is stained dark with blood. Next to the altar, barely discernible in the gloom, stands Bloppblippodd the priestess (who, although not walking, still moves constantly by bobbing up and down on the spot), and nearby is another prisoner, a bruised and bedraggled male duergar, beside whom the group stops. He looks up at the group as they approach with a tired and hopeless expression, then again looks down as he awaits his fate.
The archpriest of the Sea Mother steps forward across the span of the altar toward his waiting daughter, accompanied by his son. Despite their differences, she seems to view her father with some level of respect, and she nods briefly to him as they face each other, all three of them bobbing up and down as they do so. The time has come says Ploop in Undercommon, for us to acknowledge your divine vision and welcome it. I have brought these as offerings. He gestures toward the prisoners, standing within the circle of bobbing guards behind him. Will you not accept them?
You are wise, father the younger archpriest replies. I accept your offering in the name of the Deep Father. May their blood nourish and strengthen him. A burbling chorus which probably passes for a cheer goes up from the surrounding kuo-toa, their fists raised in the air, and ripples outward through the crowd, although the group notices that a few nearby seem to be merely acting the part.
As the cheering, chanting and parading continues, Bloppblippodd calls for the sacrifices to be brought forth, and the guards jump to do her bidding. They prob the heroes with their spears to herd them past the family of priests and past the altar toward a slight depression 20 feet away, with a large metal grate at its center which is stained with the blood of innumerable sacrifices, and below which the gentle lapping of the Darklake can be heard. The chanting grows louder.
Just as the group are within an arm's reach of the kuo-toa priests, the elder of the three suddenly gargles a single word of divine power, and a large spectral lobster claw appears and latches on to Blopp, immediately after which the father strikes at the daughter with his staff, which emits a bright flash and loud crack of lightning. Blopp utters a strangled cry of surprise, then spits a curse of some kind at her father, as her brother stabs at her with his own spear. Her guards are taken aback, and seem powerless to act in response to the sudden violent act, but a half-dozen or so kuo-toa loyal to the Sea Mother suddenly surge out of the crowd to surround and aid the battling threesome.
Roll for initiative! At this point, only Kastix, Sekkar and Zeno are in melee range of Bloppblippod, who is currently restrained. The guards show no inclination to attack anyone other than those who are attacking their high priestess, but they may try to prevent anyone that tries to escape. You CAN move across the altar spaces, but they are difficult terrain.
