Themberchaud seems amused (if he seems anything) at Pax's tone, but replies frankly: I know not. I have seen nothing beyond this city, having resided here all my days. I have heard something of this surface world, with its high and changing ceilings. Perhaps I will venture there someday. If it is the surface you desire, then I advise you to seek the gnomes. They have the most dealings with the surface.

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
"Thank you great one. Would you tell us which way to the gnomes then? My understanding is Northeast of here but what tunnels should we make for to go that way. I don't think we wish to try and cross Darklake ourselves."
Rhayna sees that the group is eager to leave the presence of the red dragon, so she puts away her Journal. She picks up the myconids, and waits for the dragon to answer Kaylyn's question. After that. "Hahhh, your greatness. Would you also happen to know which way is to Neverlight Grove? I promised these two little fellows here that I would bring them home, you see, oh great one." She feels that she was supposed to add the last bit.
While the dragon talks, she looks for any sign of demonic influence. Similar to what she witnessed about the kuo-toas in Sloobludop, or the derros in cave with the weird chanting rituals.

"Followed Kastix outside" did not mean leave everyone behind - Sekkar was waiting. Brave talkativeness of his comrades made him to risk it and, when the questions were answered, he said one thing that bothered him for some time now. "There is something mighty dragon would might want to know - that demon worshipers were hoping to summon something truly powerful. So did mad kuo-toa and they succeeded and summoned a demon prince, that killed everything it could reach. The way kuo-toa did it was a lot of killing. Same as that duergars and derro here and Empty Scabbard Killers. If those summoners were close to their goal already, then if The Great One kills half the city, it could probably finish their plans and summon the Demon here too." Sekkar was not sure how to finish his short speech (and whether the dragon will listen at all) so he just bowed again and left with others.
Despite his final words offering to answer questions, the dragon seems to bore easily. Having answered Pax's question (or rather failed to satisfactorily do so) his responses become increasing vague. To Kaylyn he replies: They travel here from Bligdenstone or Mantol-Derith, both on the north of the lake I believe, but they seem to prefer land travel. What route they take I know not. Then to Rhayna he unhelpfuly huffs: I suggest you find a guide. The drow know the tunnels, ask them.
Perhaps Sekkar doesn't pick up on these social cues as easily, or simply doesn't care, but he ploughs ahead with sharing his own thoughts. This time Themberchaud seems to show somewhat more interest, and he thinks for a moment before responding. So, it is not just the derro spreading madness. This runs wider and deeper. Hmm. Gartokkar is unaware of this, no? Good. Tell him only that the derro are spreading madness, as he suspects. He will root out these demon-worshippers and eliminate the threat. I will delay my conquest of the city until he does so.
Rhayna detects no signs of demonic influence on the dragon. It is difficult to tell, having never encountered a full-grown dragon before, but Themberchaud seems to show none of the symptoms of madness that the kuo-toa and duergar have displayed. Perhaps this is due to his having been mentally subdued by the psionic dragon-priests for so long.

As Gartokkar is sure to confront them she quickly gives him the low down. "The duergar are summoning demons and are causing the problems. We've eliminated the Gray Ghosts and they shouldn't be a problem anymore, but we've got to get moving. The Great Themberchaud has sent us on an errand and we scurry out to complete it as best and quickly as we can. Which tunnels will lead to the gnomes, Bligdenstone is it? We must head that direction in our service. Which way?"
She speaks quickly and with impatience in her voice, sprinkled with some fear to convince Gartokkar that they really fear the dragon and must hurry. This is isn't an act as they really are in a hurry and truly fear the dragon.
She raises a hand to forestall any question. "If the The Great Themberchaud wants you to know he will tell you himself. Suffice it to say he is eager to see this done. Quickly man, which tunnels?"
Rhayna, with the two myconids on her arms, follows Kaylyn.

Bligdenstone?? he sputters incredulously in response. You ... you exit the city through the West Cleft if you go by land, but... that's a journey of two tendays! His initial shock at the proposal soon gives way to suspicion however, and he glares at the group as he grumbles in a voice at first low but increasing in pitch: That dragon hasn't had an independent thought in his life. He cares only for a steady supply of food and a few coins. What interest could he possibly have in the gnomes? Now tell me! What is the source of the Grey Ghosts' power? Did you find anything else in the derro slum? I command you to...
At this moment he is cut off by the dragon's booming voice as it echoes from the cavern entrance in Draconic. Gartokkar! Do as they say! The surfacers are under my direct authority now! With that Gartokkar's glare turns to pure hatred as he hisses: What have you done to my dragon?? The other priests look at each other with no small surprise and trepidation, but they stand aside to allow the group to pass, with Gartokkar's eyes burning holes in their backs until they are out of view.

The West Cleft by the way is the same district that houses the derro slums the group passed through to enter the tunnels. Passing through it to leave the city *hopefully* shouldn't cause the same kind of disturbance that searching for Droki did.
