Kastix does what he does best and conjures a huge wall of fire across the cavern, right through the middle of the shattered market. A few of the zurkhwood stalls and the leather canopies burst into flame, and the pool of water on the far eastern side begins to sizzle and steam. The four fleeing duergar pull up short to avoid the scorching flame, but one stumbles and tumbles into the fire and succumbs to the heat, suddenly appearing for everyone to see. Rhayna focuses on the location of the newly-visible, newly-burnt, newly-dead dwarf and releases her own spell, willing the dwarves to abandon their angst against both the svirfneblin and the surface-dwellers, just as Kaylyn also magically enhances her sight. Pax and Kaylyn can now both see the three remaining duergar, still invisible, stop their panicked running, walk calmly away from the fire, and begin picking up loose debris and starting to clear the mess in the market.
Rhayna knows that Selune's magic will continue for one minute before wearing off...
"Do I keep burning or what?" Kastix askes as he holds his staff ready while keeping the wall of fire up.

Now that Kaylyn can see what is going on she reports to the others what she sees.
"It seems Rhayna has calmed them and the three remaining are starting to clean up. I do not know how long that will last. Kastix, how long can you keep the flames up? Perhaps keep them up for the moment while we sort this out."
Kaylyn moves closer to the Duergar. "Please reveal yourselves and tell us what is going on here." She also calls to the gnomes asking them the same. "What is happening? We are told this is a place of peace for the races to trade without fear of attack."
"Friends. Right."Still, those now calm duergars begun to clean up as nothing happened (Sekkar saw that sorcery and remained wary of it). The lizardman did not feel sorry or had any regrets about his actions and would rather continue, but deactivated the sword to make communication easier and do not blind creatures around.
Pax watched Kaylyn and Rhayna move in, calming down the situation, magic flooding across the minds of the Duergar. Feeling pangs of guilt and insecurity, she goes down on one knee, placing her arms across the raised knee, and takes several long slow calming breaths. With the Duergar temporarily calmed, she glances around, trying to see if there is any sign of other dead bodies, or other possible foes that could have been involved in the fight, wether they be slimes, fungus, dark elves, or ....whatever other strange thing.

The blurry gnomes that were being harrassed by the enlarged duergar in the market appear to have fled when the duergar turned to fight and are nowhere to be seen, especially with the wall of flame now blocking the view of the southern part of the cavern's eastern half. Kastix prudently decides to maintain the barrier for the time being. No other creatures are in sight other than the three surviving duergar, who have returned to normal size. At Kaylyn's invitation, they also drop their invisibility and calmly respond to the questions being posed to them. Never has anyone claimed to have met a 'friendly' duergar, but these three communicate in Undercommon with a cordial pragmatism, with only the usual gruffness common to their race.
Greetings! Yes indeed, we have strict rules here. One: no stealing of goods from fellow merchants. Two: no disguising of goods by any means. Three: no use of magic during negotiations and haggling. The punishment for breaking any covenant: the violator is wrapped in chains and tossed into the Darklake. One of the svirfneblin mages violated the first of these rules by stealing a gemstone from one of our merchants. Our chief negotiator, Ghuldur Flagonfist, had her detained for questioning, as is his right. The other svirfneblin objected and tried to free her, and for this Ghuldur has sent us to eliminate them.

Sekkar bit back the question if this is normal to send an army to apprehend a single thief and what kind of gem is worth breaking half the city over it. Also, drow, what do they have to do with all of this? There were too many questions and he was not the one who would ask them anyway. "We might misunderstood the situation," instead stated lizardman. Kaylyn sighs at the comments of Kastix. "Do we really need to involve ourselves? Tracking down thieves is not what we are here to do. We are trying to reach the surface. We do not and should not have involved ourselves in this dispute. If they do not ask for our aid in compensation for our actions lets try and let this one slide by."
Sekkar scratched his throat with the claws thinking. "All the way with you on leaving that behind. Just... Remember Derendil? He was searching for some gem... And came here too. Not saying this is the same gem but how many are there worth to turn the town upside down? Besides... We still do not know the way up. We might need them all to calm down and show us where to go."Coming to an inevitable conclusion he summed up. "We might get involved." That be said he did not leave - just looked around listening to the sounds of potential battle somewhere farther in the city.
Duergar respond to Sekkar's apology with a surprisingly accepting grunt. They also seem somewhat cowed by the tiefling's intense glare, and simply request that the flaming barrier be dropped so that they might be allowed to pass through the market and return to their own enclave. At the mention of 'Derendil' one of the duergar speaks up and says: Oh, you talkin' 'bout that crazy quaggoth what thinks he's an elf prince? Another one layin' claim to the gem, he is. He's sittin' down yonder waiting for Ghuldur to hand it over, but he'll be sittin' a long time yet. The duergar points to the south, in the direction of the duergar enclave where they wish to go.
The door to the gnome enclave remains closed, half battered in by the dwarven war picks. All the dead duergar are quite dead, thoroughly burned by the spells or the blazing sunsword. The trading town looks and sounds deserted. A careful look around however reveals a few other creatures. There is still one gnome hiding under a broken stall, clutching a bag, watching the proceedings with wide eyes. And across the trench on the far side of the town, barely visible in the semi-light and among the intervening columns of rock and stalks of fungus, there is discernable movement suggesting that two or three other figures are out in the open.
