Royan continues to climb down as quick as he can. If he gets within 5 ft of the ledge he will drop the last section. 

“Well if anything like that is to happen again, I hope I am not stuck on a ladder. Kastix, why don’t you let me go down before you? In fact, Ireniana, I’ll take the lead this next section while you recover a little.”

Ireniana nods. "That would be a good idea, Royan." She smiles and does a bow to let them pass.

Kastix will look at the human standing in front of him and turns to look at the stairs that leading into the darkness then back to the human or more specifically stared into his eyes. He will take one of his torches, light it with Prestidigitation then hand it to him "You may want this and if you want to take the lead in this darkness, be my guest, I'll be right behind the one behind you" 

Once Rhayna climbs to the bottom of the ravine. She goes to Ireniana. "Are you OK Deary? I was worried about you for a moment there..." Before Ireniana can reply back. "Hummm... Interesting place we have here." Rhayna takes her pendant, raises and Light shines through the eye at the center of the pendant. She places the pendant in one of her shirt's front pocket to illuminate whatever is in front of her. She then takes her Journal out of her backpack, and starts to record her observations of their current location. (History: ?) "You guys please go ahead, I will catch up. Don't worry. Hummm... Very interesting...." Says Rhayna in a clinical tone.

((Kaylyn won't be in the lead, probably 3rd or 4th depending on where Kastix wants to be.))

Upon reaching the bottom and joining the others Kaylyn takes a look at Ireniana and is satisfied that she appears well.

"Down appears to be the direction that is our only option.  I suppose this is why they call it the sunless citadel if it is so far underground."

So we are going with: Royan, Ireniana, Kastix, Kaylyn, Rhayna. Let me know if you want it changed.

From your position on the ledge, you see that the ravine widens into a large underground cavern. The far wall is not visible in the gloom but seems to be at least 200 feet distant. In the rubble on the ledge is a ring of stones that contains (and is covered by) the accumulated ash of hundreds of fires, though no fire has been lit here for a few years. Inside the ash pile are a few rough-hewn spear tips of goblin manufacture and small animal bones. Among the oversize rodent tracks in the dirt can be seen humanoid tracks, some of which lead down the staircase.

The 5-foot-wide stairs are roughly carved, but easily navigated. About every 20 feet of descent, the stairs reach a small landing, and then switch back. The bottom is not visible from the ledge, but as you descend in single-file down the steps, a fortress emerges from the darkness. The subterranean citadel, though impressive, seems long forgotten, if the lightless windows, cracked crenellations, and leaning towers are any indication. All is quiet save for the occasional scurrying of small animals in the rubble and the clatter of loose stones, though a cold breeze blows up from below, bringing with it the scent of dust and a faint trace of rot.

The narrow stairs empty into a small courtyard, apparently the top of what was once a crenellated battlement. The buried citadel has sunk so far into the earth that the battlement is now level with the surrounding floor. That floor stretches away to the north and south, composed of a layer of treacherous, crumbled masonry, which reaches to an unknown depth. To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Sunless Citadel. A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard, with a closed door at the level of the courtyard floor ...

Where the fire ring is Kaylyn stoops and tries to determine what kind of creature left the humanoid tracks and how long ago they were left.

While at the courtyard, Kastix will try to find any signs of creatures in this courtyard with a focus on humanoid signs from before.

Rhayna is studying the history of the structures. What can it tell her about the people that used to live here. (History: 15) She records everything that she sees that has historical value into her Journal.

Kaylyn: The most recent humanoid tracks appear to have been made by four medium-sized humans, and are about a month old. These are the tracks that appear to have descended the stairs. 

Kastix: There are numerous tracks in the courtyard, resembling both human and goblin. Curiously, the majority of them seem to be around the periphery of the courtyard.

Rhayna: The fortress is in such poor condition that it is difficult to determine anything of its architecture, but what you can see of the tower in front of you is unlike any recent building style - the citadel appears to be of very ancient date.

 "I think we should be careful and maybe go the long way around this courtyard," Kastix will point out the tracks that go around rather than through the courtyard. 

"Ancient architecture... Unknown ancient civilization..." Rhayna murmurs and records all of her findings. "Fascinating..." Keeping the light on the eye of her pendant up whenever she see something worth of recording. After absently listening to Kastix's warning. Rhayna raises her head, and looks around. She was about to step into the courtyard. She gingerly brings her feet back, and make sure to keep away from the courtyard. She keeps going on her business.

Just in time, at the warning from Kastix, Rhayna avoids walking across the courtyard. Her inspection of the stonework of the citadel then extends to the courtyard floor, and she notices that a large square section of the floor is unmortared.

Royan walks down the steps carefully. As he gets to the level of the courtyard he looks around to see if there are any signs of movement or creatures observing them. He also wants to see if the door is the only entrance to the tower. 

Perception: 4

Royan: In the light of his torch, Royan can't detect any creatures or any other entrances. Outside of this courtyard the rubble surrounding what's left of the fortress is quite treacherous - piles of huge rocks, balanced precariously over who knows what kind of crevasse.

 “That sounds wise Kastix. Very nice observation.” Royan makes his way carefully, following the footprints pointed out by Kastix. 

Ireniana keeps silent for a moment, observing the other party members before hearing Kastix pointing out the tracks. "Let's see where these go."

Perception - 20

Kastix will follow Royan going along the edge of the court yard carefully than shouts at the rest "Unless they fell down or can fly yo, I don't think the ones who came through here went anywhere else beside back we came or more likely Inside," Kastix points to the Citdael with his gloved hands. 

OOC: Kastix remains heavily covered up, partly due to being Tiefling, more due to feature that may save his life. 

Following Kastix’s lead, the party follow the footprints and make their way clockwise around the periphery of the courtyard, arriving at the southern edge of the base of the tower. From here to the door, the footprints are concentrated to within just 2 feet of the tower wall, forming a narrow passage between the wall and the unmortared section of the courtyard floor. Hugging the wall, it is relatively easy for the party to avoid the suspicious floor stones and traverse the narrow passage of the courtyard to the tower door. From this proximity, it is clear that the tower door hangs loose on its hinges, slightly ajar and moving almost imperceptibly in the slight cold breeze issuing from the tower’s interior.

This circular area inside the tower is cobbled with cracked granite, upon which sprawl the bodies of four goblins, apparently slain in combat. One corpse stands with its back against the western wall, the spear that killed it still skewering it and holding it upright. Two wooden doors lead from this area, one in the south-west and one in the north-west. The hollow tower of loose masonry reaches thirty feet into the air, but the intervening floors and stairs are gone, except for a couple of crumbled ledges.
