Normally delighted to meet a fellow scholar, Badger is a little cautious about Orvex, unsure of any lingering loyalty he holds to the Red Wizards. Not being the most astute judge of character, Badger as always decides to rely instead on the much more reliable power of divination.
Keen to test the properties of the ruby, Badger decides to consult the coins and tome to augur their immediate prospects in locating the shrines, and hopefully shed some further light on Orvex. The casting results in Hexagram 58 which reads The joyous Lake spans on and on to the horizon: the Superior Person renews and expands his Spirit through heart-to-heart exchanges with others. Success if you stay on course. And then noticing that one coin is inverted, Badger reads the variation: Rejoice in his sincerity. This good fortune will last into the future, if you don't let the past resurface.
At this advice, Badger's last shreds of doubt about Orvex vanish, and he feels confident about the group's prospects of succeeding. He then turns his attention to the magic helm, and attuning himself to the secrets of its operation, although his concentration wavers as he reflects on Orvex's ghastly description of the powers of the mutant T-Rex...

Boris crouches just inside the doorway of the upper floor of the ancient ruined mansion. The cracks in the limestone ran through the structure, crumbling under the weight of time. Vines and plant growth pressed in around everything here, a city lost to the jungle. The high pitched echo'ing squeak of bats bounced around the cliffs enclosing Omu. The moon was out with dark quiet clouds drifting across the starlit sky. It was practically peaceful here. A small mouse scampered past nearby. He watched until it got too close to the small sticky vine plant in the corner whose vine reflexively curled around the creature and pulled it into its center pod. The creature squealed as it was dumped into the center pod full of digestive liquids, which then closed sealing it in. The squeaks and squirming continued for some time until the creature eventually died from the acid it was in. A part of him would have been horrified by this not so long ago. That part was locked away somewhere inside, in a box, terrified and happy to be sealed away in safety. Instead he watched the scene impassively, scratching at the edges of his wounds from the day.
He stood up, his muscles feeling like they're tearing as he stands up and stretches them out. His eyes meet motion in the dark shadows of the city. A massive black silouette stomps through the streets only a couple blocks over before vanishing amidst some taller trees. The real king of Omu he supposed. He grasped his ice axe that was given to him each day by Sickle. Each day the axe was a slightly different style, this one had a fierce-some pick on the backside. He wasn't sure if Sickle provided the style, or the ring. He wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer.
He grasped the haft, which had grown wet in the warm moist air, and wiped off the water so as not to make his grip to slick, then crept down the stairs to the main floor, then the basement to check. Orvex and Mal slept soundly. His watch partner, Silas, leaned against the wall and gave him a nod. His face looked up each of them. They were all so calm in battle. Calculating, reacting with confidence. He wanted that, but it seemed when it came to battle, all the emotions that he kept away seemed to burst forth in a rage. He didn't understand, but....he supposed it was part of growing up. He'd understand one day.
He missed Sir Darak. His steady, fierce, and reassuring presence, and his sense of right and wrong felt absent here sometimes. He supposed Silas was the next closest, a holy man, with a pretty good sense of right and wrong. He looked to the undead who sat silently, unsleeping. Despite everything they'd been through, the weeks of travel through the jungle....he didn't trust it. He nodded to Silas and headed back upstairs to complete his watch over the dark ruins of Omu.
The next morning Orvex seemed much better rested and offered to help around the basement with odd tasks, seemingly needing to lend a hand. Boris seemed to approach him and begin directing him. The older man, with a white beard and bald head accepted the direction, and the two spoke quietly about their homes. Outside the rain was coming down, and small rivulets of water dribbled down cracks in the basement forming a growing pool in one corner. The cooler air from the rain seemed to crawl down the stairs giving people a shiver. Eventually breakfast was had and then people packed up.
Before then, Silas sat down and closed his eyes, holding onto the ornate glass eye the Aarakorcra at Kir Sabal had made for him.
Silas, the wavering view of the walled compound comes into your mind. The rain pours down and the ground is muddy, water droplets crawling down leaves and vines. The scene looks much the same as you left it except that the insect bitten bodies are all but dissolved, a spread out pile of larva across the ground around them. The five snake people bodies have also been moved. They appear to have been piled near the rubble and burned. A glaive has been thrust into remains of the burned-out pyre. Charred snake skulls and blackened inhuman vertebrae are lashed to the spear. On a wall nearby that is sheltered from the rain by an overhang a symbol has been daubed in ash: a snake curled in a spiral, gripping a circle in its jaws.
Silas looks around a bit more but doesn't see more of interest. He releases the spell and opens his eyes, back in the basement. He relays what he's seen to the group.
Boris steps forward, his pack on, ready to go, and looks back to the group, "So, where are we headed?"

Urgh, avoid them if possible, I'd say. Replies Badger. Orvex said there were two more shrines nearby. They should be our next objective. First the one to the west, perhaps?

As Silas draws out the image, Badger sits staring at it. It looks so familiar to him, he's seen it, but he's having troubles.... "Dendar, the night serpent..." says Orvex. Yes...that's right thinks Badger, he remembers now. Badger speaks up, "Dendar, the night serpent is expected to bring about the end of the world. It will rise up serpent kind above all others, driving the rest of the world to slavery and death. A simple belief held by many snake worshippers."
Badger recommends the one to the west. Boris nods to him and leads the group out into the rain. The rush of the water falling around drowns out any other sounds, and the falling water cuts visibility. The group moves through the ruins following Orvex's directions before arriving outside a shrine. A rectangular pool of murky water stretches before this vine-draped shrine. Rope bridges that once spanned the water float on the surface, tangled with other debris. The shards of a toppled monolith form stepping stones to the middle of the pool, where a statue of a stone frog rises above the water. Orvex speaks loudly over the rain, "We found this one, but never went inside....decided to camp first...."
The entrance to the shrine is on the far side of the pond, with broken walls surrounding the building.

Sickle spends the evening arguing with the ring in his mind. He was frustrated that he couldn’t seem to master it, and now it seemed to think he owed it. Did it want to show off it’s power or not. Axes were cool and all but... He looked around for the little chwinga to see if it was still following them, and if so, offered him a bit of rations.
He passes Goodberries out to the party as they headed out to the next shrine. On the way, he looks up and smiled grimly at the stormy sky. Could be helpful if they got into a fight. When they arrrive, he shakes his head. “I literally traded a spell out this morning that would have let us walk across here. I figured we weren’t headed east across that waterway for the day. Remember, the story spoke of this frog having tentacles. Be wary. Do we try to cross at those?” he asked, gesturing to the stones.

Mal eyes the water suspiciously and then will tie a stone to her rope and toss the stone into the water to see how deep the pool is and also check to see if anything decides to make a grab for the rope. While doing that she will see if she can spot a path around the water maybe that can get to the other side.

The small Chwinga that seems to make itself scarce very quickly whenever trouble arrives, but then comes strolling back after, looks at the rations from Sickle. It takes it and puts it on its head, carefully balancing it. A short while later the scrap of food falls off and onto the ground. The Chwinga looks back longingly at it, but makes no effort to retrieve it, instead hanging onto Sickle's hair. If Sickle is kind enough to pick it up, this is repeated several times until Sickle eventually just leaves it where it lies.
As you arrive at the Froghemeth shrine, the Chwinga does a little hop, then clambers down off of Sickle and goes to a nearby stone, sitting on top of it crosslegged to wait.
Mal looks around. I mean, ya.....there's the pool with the stones and the statue in it, but....you could just walk outside the shrine's property and walk back in through a ruined wall over by the building, that doesn't seem to be a problem at all. He does the rock/rope trick, taking a couple minutes to tie it properly so it doesn't just slip out, and then dips the rock in.
He lets the rock slip in through the scum on the surface and sink. Eventually it hits a soft bottom, and he pulls the rock up. You figure it's about six feet deep.
The surface of the water explodes outwards as a massive frog creature the size of an elephant emerges from the center of the slimy pond. Four large tentacles whip around it's body, a massive tongue zapping out from it.
Mal, two massive tentacles erupt from the water swinging at you. Tentacles 1 : Attack: 24 Damage: 20. Tentacles 2 : Attack: 17 Damage: 19
The tongue zaps out, it's sticky slimy massive soft tissue hits your body, sticking all over you. Roll a Strength save.
