After such a heroic battle against the Yuan-ti, Grenk had thought the hero's he'd fallin in with were most impressive. Although, at the moment, the combined blades swinging past snakes, blasts of magic zapping nothing but ruins and trees, he's not sure anymore. (Sickle is the only one to hit a snake with his flaming staff.)
Grenk the one at your feet attacks you: Attack: 18 Damage: 9
Grenk, the 2nd one fighting you: Attack: 22 Damage: 9

Grenk gives a spectacular roar of laughter. "Bwa haa haa," bellows out of him as he raises his sword to strike the one at his feet. He then rains down two heavy blows at it laughing all the while.

A moment later the foes are cut in half as the group breaks out of the reverie and begins battling properly, Mal, Badger, and Silas all killing the snakes fighting them....the shock from the surprising attack must have worn off. Sickle may or may not have killed his, you all haven't had a chance to check as you continue to battle.
(Sickle's a bit laggy, so take your turn as normal. If the thing is still alive, it's attack below will count, otherwise it won't).

"Damn snakes," Grenk grumbles as his height makes it difficult for him to reach down and kill the squirmy little things. He dances about while swinging at them.
Between the rest of the attacks, the group slaughters the last three snakes, leaving everyone standing about, heaving heavily, with nasty fang wounds across their bodies. Badger stands up, looking particularly rough, wavering on his feet with glassy eyes. The group takes a few moments to collect itself and perhaps do some healing.
From here, just up the stairs to the shrine, you see there is no door and a hallway greets you. The walls of this rubble-strewn corridor are carved with serpents, and arrow slits are spaced along them every 5 feet. Cobwebs fill the arrow slits and hang like drapes from the corridor ceiling. Above the entrance, a stone plaque bears a cuneiform message. Badger, you translate the message for the group, "Moa teaches us that secrets hide the truth."
Blood soaks into Badger's clothing on his shoulder. Blood trickles down Grenk's leg, and the rest of the group looks to have some equally bad wounds.

Sickle does what he can with the flaming scimitar to put his snake out of commission, continuing to hack at its charred corpse long after it should have been dead. He stands there with the others, panting, staff still smoking. He reaches out a hand toward Badger, and 7 HP of healing energy flows into the gnome. (Healing Word 1st level)

Grenk looks at the group and then to Sickle and then himself. Looking back at Sickle he says, "I agree, we should bind our wounds, eat, and regain our strength." Assuming the others agree he will bind his wounds, spend some hit dice to regain health and gather up some of the snakes binding them up for a meal for later.

Badger flops down on the ground and drinks deeply from his waterskin. Removing his helm, he lays back against a wall, closes his eyes and walks his mind back through his memorised spells, with nothing to say (for once).
The air in this place is strange. The scent of the burnt sulphurous gasses swirl about, as the rising hot air surrounding the island create a funnel. An inverted flow of air from above seems to tunnel down, like a cool wind blowing directly downwards to the top of the island and then pushing outwards to be caught in the updrafts. It keeps the air flowing, a constant breeze here, but mixed with the gases and heat from below, it's generally uncomfortable.
The group rests, no other activity on the island but themselves and the wind, seemingly, for the moment anyway.
The rest done, the group slowly acknowledges their readiness, and stands to look down the hallway of their next puzzle.

Badger is looking for clues about this hallway: Are these arrow slits like those in a castle, for shooting at intruders, and if so do they look outside from within the hallway? Or are they like slits that poison arrow shoot out of? Is there anything at the end of the hallway?
