Finnian rises with a yawn, and after a brief stretch gathers his things and heads down to the common room to get some breakfast and wait for his fellows. "Morning Tolben,"he calls, "is there anything for breakfast this fine morning?" He claims a table that can sit the whole party, then opens up his spellbook to try and make sense of some of the more advanced pages while he waits.
After gathering his belongings, Gerrack makes his way downstairs, clicking his tongue nervously against the roof of his beak. He stops short in the doorway as he hears the yell of the human ordering his breakfast, then cants his head to the side, before slowly approaching him and standing awkwardly in front of the large, nearly-empty table. He shifts his weight from one foot to the next, then with a quick shake of his head rasps out what he imagines would be a friendly greeting:
"Goblins!"
... that didn't seem to come out quite as he planned. He trills nervously, feathers ruffled, then tries again:
"I-I mean p-please, do not walk not alone on this path, human! A hunt of g-goblins? The En-Enduring One demands that G-G-Gerrack assist your company..."
He clicks his beak, even more agitated; these words aren't coming out as he wanted them to! He tries to address the baffled human one more time.
"Last night... the tavern, I h-heard... No, no, that's not right, I wasn't l-listening, I simply..." He makes a sharp click in the back of his throat, then bows formally to the human, one hand folded over the other. "My name is G-Gerrack, and I w-wish to h-h-help you fight. G-goblins are a th-threat to all of Emberhold, w-with the soldiers s-spread s-s-so thinly. I... I volunteer! I help where I can. I-I do not ask for money! P-please, let me come with you."
"Don't worry about it, he doesn't understand even when you speak normally, much of the time anyway..." Misty says coming down behind the bird-man and giving Finnian a teasing smile. "We'd love to have your help with the goblins though, the more the merrier and all of that." Misty smiles to the bird man and then moves over to Finnian, giving him a nod in greeting. "Sleep well?"
"Wha-! Goblins? Where?" Still a little drowsy from having just woken up, the call of "Goblins!" sees the sailor-turned-wizard whirl around in search of a nonexistent foe. When he comes back to his senses, he finds a nervous-looking aarakocra making his offer. "Oh... well, I think-"
At which point Misty joins the conversation with a light jab and a smile, which he easily returned. "Woah now, I'd say I've gotten quite good at speaking landlubber these past weeks! Can't quite say the same for your grasp of sailor speak, though." He retrieves his clay pipe and gnaws on the bit, silently kicking himself for forgetting to search for any tobacco in the market. "I slept alright, well as can be without the ocean waves to sing me to sleep, anyhow. What about you, Misty? Any interesting dreams?" He waggles his eyebrows, hoping to keep the banter going a little longer.
Turning towards Gerrack, he adds, "If ye'd be joining us, then welcome aboard! I'm Finnian, and the wily lady what just joined us is Misty. We can introduce you to the others as they wake up."
Gerrack flinches when Misty speaks, but clicks gratefully upon hearing her easy acceptance of his offer. Bowing awkwardly once more to the both of them, he moves to the side of the table, trying to make himself appear as bland and unassuming as possible for an aarakocra. Some confidence returning to his voice from their warm welcome, he trills and adjusts his feathers, grooming them back into place with quick, practiced fingers.
"Thank you. I will stand as we wait. It is not..." He clicks his beak together, searching for the proper word. "...comfortable for those of my kind to be seated at tables such as these." Involuntarily, his wings twitch as he speaks. Then, he turns his head and keeps his eyes trained on the staircase, anxiously waiting for the rest of the party he had seen the previous evening to rejoin their companions.
Gimble wakes up with a good stretch. After cleaning up, he collects his belongings and heads down to the common room. As he walks down he looks for the group from the prior day. Seeing some at the table he walks up to the group.
"Hey guys, what a great nights rest eh? I slept like a rock. This place is a nice reprieve, we should remember it."
Gimble grabs a seat and then waves down a server, "Can i get whatever ya got goin this mornin, and a hot cup of joe, thanks."
Facing the group, "So, i heard a few rumors yesterday, but i still think the best way to go is to clear house on this goblin nest. I was offered 28gp for clearin it out, could definitely use the help. And i imagine that we will find much more than that there since they have been raiding merchants on their way to town. Anyone seen Greg yet, we gota chat. And," (looking at the new comer) I'm Gimble, who are you?"
"Oh this and that..." She said with a sultry smile. "I have to say that pirates were a major part of one of them though..." She lets her eyes move over him slowly, teasingly for a long moment. Then she chuckles and punches him in the shoulder. "buy me a spiced cider for breakfast and tell me one of those lies you keep telling about your sailoring days..."
To Gerrack
"I can imagine sitting in these chairs would be difficult." Misty says with a nod of sympathy. "Once everyone is here we can talk about the goblins, so that should be fairly soon I would think." She too glances towards the stairs. "I just hope Hati didn't get into any trouble, he is not known for staying nicely in a town like this for very long."
Gerrack stares down at the gnome. "I am known as..." His throat bobs and a series of high-pitched clicks and soft croons emerges. Then he shudders. "A-ah, it is G-Gerrack, Gerrack Sirocco in your t-tongue."
His feathers ruffle as Misty mentions Hati. "That is the tiefling, yes? He seemed very a-angry... Sharing the skies with that one will be d-difficult, I think."
Finnian's guffaws echo out into the room at large, though they soon fade into a light chortling. "A spiced cider and a tall tale, eh? Ye never were one to do things by half..." He orders the cider, then sits cleaning his pipe for a moment. While he sits mulling over which of his many sea-going stories he could tell, he says to Gimble, "Can't say I've seen Greg up and about yet, but I'm sure he'll show 'ere long."Then to Misty, "Say, have I ever told ye the one about the Old Orc Wickie?"
Edmond stretches, puts on his social clothes, checking his gear as he does, and goes down to the common room, arriving in time to hear Gerrack introduce himself.
Morning, everybody. Tolben? I'll have the hungry man special please. Hello, Gerrack, pleased to meet you. I'm Edmond Hawkbreaker, Chief Damage Sponge. Please pardon my name. No worries about Hati. Gerrack bobs his head toward Edmond in acknowlegment. "I-it is n-noble of y-you to s-s-sacrifice for others..." Gerrack blinks rapidly and clicks his beak once, seeming to struggle for a moment. "B-but t-to know the v-value of one's s-self is a f-foundation o-of v-valuing o-others. I hope y-y-you will c-c-consider your own s-safety as w-w-well."
"S-some b-black bread and fruit with honey would b-be w-wonderful. A-ah, and a cup of water, p-please," he says to Elsa. Before she can leave, he gathers his courage asks another question more haltingly: "If y-your kitchen might have l-l-leftovers, the b-brothers and sisters of the temple of Illmater are c-c-collecting for the hungry. On behalf of the temple, I humbly a-appeal to the kindness and g-generosity of G-Goodman Stonehill to consider m-my request." He squeaks timidly. "A-a-anything really would d-do! I or any other servant of the temple would be happy to collect a-any such donations."
Gerrack listens in quietly on the talk of money between Gimble and Misty, nodding his head. "I am n-not doing t-this for c-coin, s-so any a-amount w-would be a-a-acceptable, but e-every b-bit of gold c-can h-help aid m-me on m-my m-m-mission to s-serve the g-good people of Emberhorn."
After listening to Greg's plight, he snaps his beak loudly. "P-perhaps your superior requires m-more time? W-waiting for him for one more d-day w-would give us the o-opportunity to take care of this g-goblin threat, as well as b-better p-prepare us to d-defend you on your j-journey later."
Afterwards, resting comfortably on his heels, he falls silent and watches Finnian in fascination, seemingly trying to learn how the other man speaks so easily with his companions.
Conrick did end up falling asleep at the Stonehill Inn and got positively wasted while discussing his life story and his own sorrows with Edmond after his humiliating defeat at the Guild Hall. He wakes up a tad later and comes down and sees Edmond and the rest of the group talking with Toblen and saunters over to join in on the discussion.
