Lost Mine of Phandelver

Rigel hears the javelins pass overhead but regardless of how much he wants to check on his friends the bugbear in front of him is demanding all his attention. Working Hew and the flame tongue in harmony he launches another series of attacts. 

(Bugbear 2 is the primary target but he'll move on to 1 should 2 die)

If either hit then Rigel will mark the bugbear as a favored foe and deal 1 damage as well as his Colossus slayer triggers and an additional 3 damage is done.

Rigel's flame tongue separates the left side of the bugbear's body from his right side in a gruesome display as both halves of the henchman fall away from one another spilling blood and gore at the ranger's feet while the smell of burning bugbear hair fills the cavern. He then turns his wrath upon the wide-eyed bugbear to his right, uttering the words to place his hunter's mark as he slashes forward with Hew.

Attack (Morningstar): 5 vs. AC 16 (Rigel); dealing 8 piercing damage on a hit.

Ronk runs back in at the bugbear left by Rigel, giving him two quick spear stabs, then a large bugbear foot towards the throat.

Spear attack on Bugbear 1: 25, damage on hit: 10 piercing

Spear attack on Bugbear 1: 20, damage on hit: 8 piercing

Unarmed strike on Bugbear 1: 23, damage on hit: 8 bludgeoning

The bugbear, still reeling with fright from Rigel's attack, somehow manages to avoid each of Ronk's strikes with spear and foot.

Van lifts the fingers of his freehand to his mouth and blows, flame errupting from between his fingers and flying at one of the bugbears.

Action: Firebolt at BG3

Attack: 17 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

Damage: 15

Vanzaren's fiery arrow sends another bugbear hurdling into oblivion to explain to his malign gods Hruggek and Grankhul how he failed in battle...

Garet will continue his magician assault.

All three of the henchmen take the dodge action and move to assist their drow overlord with moving away from the ledge. They stand in front of him to try an shield him from further ranged attacks.

"... Shoot. Hey ya'll below? They starting to retreat with the drow. Might wanna double time it outta there." Marcon pulled away from the crossbow to warn before again lining up a shot; only to abandon trying to hit the drow in favor of hitting one of his body shields at least.

Action: Sniper Dan(!) at Bugbear(5).

"On my way!" says Rigel as he tries to jump across the stream. (Athletic: 9) 

If he makes it he'll reconfigure his rod to the climbing pole he stops at the bottom of the chasm side and assesses the best way to place the pole.

(Sorry the light is out till he can climb out and reignite the flame tongue.)

Rigel easily dodges the bugbear's swipe as he leaps across the stream and advances it to the base of the rock wall formed by the chasm. He judges that he could ascend about half way up the pole before the bugbears would be able to react, but would be in a vulnerable position if one of them decided to attack him while climbing.

Having narrowly missed the ranger, and seeing his allies quickly falling around him, the injured bugbear decides to beat a hasty retreat.

Action: dodge
Movement: 15 feet to the north, then begins climbing the chasm wall leading to a tunnel in the northwest; Strength (Athletics): 15 vs. DC 10, falling prone and taking 2 bludgeoning damage on a failed check.

As the Bugbear backs away, Ronk takes a quick stab at it with his spear.

AAO on BGBR1: 7, damage on hit: 4 Piercing

Ronk looks over to see Rigel looking for a spot to climb up, and realizes how exposed he's be doing so. Ronk mutters "Oh boy..." takes a deep breath to center himself, and charges at the wall to climb it.

Athletics check for climbing 18, and Dashing if needed to get to the top

Ronk also spends 1 Ki point for Patient Defense.

Ronk deftly scales the sheer rock wall and heaves himself up onto the upper surface coming face-to-face with several foes!

"You've got to be kidding me," the ex-circus wizard groans as he follows after the ranger.

Vanzaren slips as he tries to make it up the pole and slides back down to the bottom

One last attempt to use magic bolt

Garet's bolt lights up the cavern as it streaks across the expanse, barely threading the needle between the bugbears who trying desperately to cover their master...but to no avail...

Holy firbolgi energy slams into the drow's face like lightning striking a lonesome tree standing alone on an open prairie sending the creature backwards and pinning him against the rear wall. Held there momentarily by the force of the spell, the form of the drow melts away revealing what truly lies underneath...a slender, blue humanoid with gangly arms, a bald head and beady yellow orbs for eyes...a doppelganger!!

The creature slumps to the ground - dead - as Garet's spell fades and the cavern slowly grows dark again...

Seeing their overlord lying lifeless on the floor, the three bugbears beat a hasty retreat out of the cavern through a stairwell in the northwest:
