(Alright, party, we've got options. We can either go on another journey out into the forests, out onto the open waters, or spend time in more of a downtime series of mini missions within the town.)
There's a couple of options that the group have available for them that head into the jungles:
Given the sudden surge in population that the island is going to receive from the survivors of the northern continent, additional space and supplies is going to be important. Because of this a surveying group is going to be sent into the deeper jungle areas to research two things: the potential for setting up new settlements, and the old tales of ancient temples that may be found there.
Now that the trade route will be opened up today, there will be escort requirements for groups to go and ensure that the paths further up are clear and fend off any potential threats in the area. May involve hunting larger threats in the area if there are any signs of the indigenous creatures being a problem.
(Rolling with the party but seems eager to get at whatever takes them closer to 'civilization' --->knowledge---->answers)
Tvon'ii browses the few books in the general store. He skims an appropriately tame and chivalrous tale of adventure and buys it. The elf then makes his way back to their assigned occupancy. He spends a little time cleaning up and helping with basic needs about the house before approaching Alana.
Sliding the book across the table, "Does the boy read? If not, I'll teach him, with your permission of course. Otherwise, this should be a relatively harmless form of escape. This situation...Our situation is difficult at best. I just figured he could use the distraction." Tvon'ii stands and give a reserved nod. "We've been clearing out the trade routes. Travel inland will be available soon, maybe a little more stability. Until then, thank you for keeping this place tidy and,"he smiles a little to himself, " warm."
The wizard sets back out to rejoin the party not wanting to be left behind.
Tvon'ii spends a handful of gold coins (5gp for the book) and returns back to the house. He finds out that the boy does have some reading capabilities, whilst not a scholar but still enjoys the stories. They are very thankful for Tvon'ii and his present.
Quest: Legends for the Hidden Temple
The party have somewhat made a majority vote for locating this hidden temple. They are informed that intrepid explorer Douglas fBayne is leading the exploration, bringing five hirelings alongside the party to carry tools and food supplies. The destination is believed to be around 4-7 days of travelling (food and tents will be provided), and then they will be required to explore the area with Douglas in an attempt to survey the area, and if such a landmark is located to investigate it and assess its suitability for rehabilitation.
Tahia will ask what types of creatures to expect along the way -- anything more dangerous than what we already encountered, more of the same?
Tahia enquires. There are many interesting creatures in the forest, such as the su-monster the party met before. There are other large and imposing beasts, such as the crocodiles and piranhas in the rivers, great reptillian beasts and rage drakes. The most deadly things that the party are advised to keep an eye out for are small frog-like creatures that are about half a foot tall and with speckled hides, they are incredibly poisonous to the touch. However, if they manage to capture one alive and bring it back, there is no doubt an alchemist that could extract some of that poison to make valuable antidotes are something similar.
Tahia's tempted to look into oiled tarpaulins or something to catch a frog in, but six inches is pretty much up to her knee, so she decides to let it go, but passes the information on to the others.
With the group ready, they are led to meet Douglas fBayne.
Waiting for the party by a cart with various provisions is a tortle. He has intricate markings down the back of his shell, donning some travelling kit and a dark green explorer's hat. "Ah, my entourage!" He says in a jovial voice, lifting his walking staff in greeting. "Seems like we have a colourful group, don't we? Well, not to worry, we have another five coming with us to help in this expedition. We have a map, exploration kits, food and water." He chuckles to himself. "So, I am the great Douglas fBayne, I am sure you have all heard of my daring exploits of exploring uncharted territories and locating ancient civilisations."
Scurrying from nearby a little ferret crawls up Douglas and onto his shell. "And this is Gordon, the mascot of my adventures!"
“Nice to meet you Douglas, i am Gnoll. I hope you don’t mind, but i prepared a few spells that should help us to deal with the hunger, thirst, diseases, spoiled food and forest fires.” With the last words, Gnoll grins a little at his companions.
(also, Gnoll left a note with the Elves, to inform them that he expects a leather delivery in the near future and he asked them to store it safely for him until he returns.)
"Marvellous!" The tortle chuckles as Gnoll's statement. "Having a spiffing man of the world as one of my hirelings will make this expedition all the more enjoyable!"
Arriving are the other five hirelings, the real hirelings. They are not combatitive members of the group, more for the menial tasks; aiding with camp, preparing food, carrying goods, torch bearers, and the like.
"Well that's all of us." Douglas tells the group. "Our quest leads us onwards, to glory and long lost cities!"
Douglas points his walking staff forward, taking some bold steps ahead of the group. The hirelings quickly get around the cart, readying it for the off (the party can add their packs to the back of the cart). Leaving the village the group starts by following the road that they walked only yesterday. "Keep an eye out for the blasted su-monster. Terribly agile thieves of the jungle, a mortal foe!" Douglas warns the group.
Gordon scrabbles onto the cart, grabbing onto a wheel and riding it up, taking to the reins and scurrying to sit atop one of the pack mules taken for the expedition.
"Yes, we encountered some on this road yesterday," Tahia says, taking up a position on the left of the cart. "Hopefully they'll remember how we dealt with them and think twice before engaging again." She has her bow at the ready and is keeping an eye on the forest.

The phrase 'ancient temples' would probably catch Tahia's ear, she'd like to know more about what those old tales say.
