Ulthan will try to make this quick, albeit as before not trying to kill the guy unless of course the dagger is poison then you know... Attack: 14 Damage: 1 if miss, he will slash again lightly. Attack: 14 Damage: 4
The wave of color seemed to stretch across all of reality, not really come from "anywhere".....sort of like it moved across the entire space.
Regardless, Ulthan leaps forward with the blade and slice......knicks Quill. There's a blast of energy and everyone is thrown backwards, landing on their backs. Quill is tossed free of Ketch's grasp. He lays there, groaning for a moment. And then.....the wall on the left folds up like a piece of paper...leaving only pitch black. Then another wall folds up. The furniture seems to become 2 dimensional, like one of those pop-up books, and then folds away with the wall. The chandelier becomes 2 dimensional, then folds up along with the ceiling. The entire world rapidly seems to fold in on itself, until there is nothing but dark...and everyone floats away from each other fading away into blackness.
You all open your eyes. You're laying on the floor of the warehouse. The other people are sitting around nearby. Quill is on the ground...a thin line of blood on his hand where he was cut. The strange colors seem to have faded away back to normal. The book is there, but folds in on itself until it collapses into nothing.
Quill sits up, and looks around. The hate and anger gone from his face. "Where am I? I had the strangest dream.....though...these people were in my dream." He glances around, "Maybe not a dream?"
The elf comes forward and grasps Quill's hand, pulling him to his feet. The tiefling, humans, and bariaur all come over as well to embrace him and welcome him back to the real world.
"And that is why you never let a beholder crash your party!" Ketch grumbles, climbing to his feet and slapping dust and dirt off his clothes and armor.
Ketch takes a moment to look around and make sure all of his companions made it back, then he'll give a not so subtle cough and look around for who is paying them for the job well done.
Ulthan checks on the cat, then "hrmpfh"s then checks his belongings, curious if any coins remained from the story, or if any arrows were actually expended. Then he'll remember there's other people here and the drama may not be over yet.
Meepo shakes himself like a dog, then gets to his feet. He moves to Mordekai's side and stands close to his friend as he looks around as well. "Meepo just glad be back in not book world." he says, not quite certain if this place is to be considered the real world or not.
Lionel stood up watching reunion of the friends with a bit sad smile. "It was in part a dream, a needed one. We were sent to wake you up when the time came. I am glad we were able to do it."The rest would be surely explained by the Quill's friends and Lionel stepped aside to not interfere.
"Have to admit, the beholder part does feel like a dream to me too." He said it more to himself, not addressing anyone in particular. "The creature was not in the story, but those spectators known to travel to the most unusual places. Well, it is done anyway."
At the mention of "Well, it is done anyway". Ulthan slinks off into darkness and cover. No other words have brought greater dire than those he remembers from the past and not a great feeling at that. The large cat pads quietly after him blending into the shadows somewhat better.
"In addition to the agreed payment," Mordekai says as he looks to the elf, then turns to address Quill, "I would ask one favour of you, noble bard - simply to tell the tale of The Great Meepo, Tamer of the Fearsome Beholder."
He gives a subtle nod to Meepo, before following Ketch's lead and looking expectantly at both Quill and the elf for agreement and payment respectively.
"Meepo no do much..." Meepo says with a shake of his head, looking uncomfortable. "Lionel, Meepo's Friend, stand and strike against beholder too... Meepo no could do alone..."
Mordekai says quietly, "Admittedly I may have missed some action whilst I was hanging around in a painting...But I went through because you had the Beholder trapped, and when I came out it was a pile of goop on the floor."
The strangers spend a short time reuniting with their apparently cured friend, before the elf finally turns his attention to the group. "Excellent. Thank you very much for your help. Here is your payment." He nods to the Yaddle, the noble lizardman who hired you for the job, passing him a small bag, and then passing the group over another bag. "As agreed. 5000 gold. Thank you again."
Yaddle gives a small head bow, then turns to the group with a tooth filled grin, "Yaddle issss pleasssed with your work. Good job. Yaddle will look for you again at the Fortune'ssss wheel if you need more jobsss."

"Indeed. The agreed figure was 6,000 gold. And that was before there was a beholder involved. None of your tricks, or we might think about adding a Beholder Bonus."
The man raises and eyebrow,, “Oh. Correct. My apologies. Here is the additional coin.” He pulls out an additional bag that he seems to conveniently had ready.
Yaddle hisses but says nothing.

As the friends seem happy enough and no longer interested in us, Ketch will approach Yaddle. “As you know, we’re new around here… As well as jobs were also looking to just familiarize ourselves with the surroundings. Could you point us to somewhere my friend’s cat could… stretch their legs? Without it causing a ruckus or problem? And my other friend is looking for some spare… bones. Of the skeletal variety. Preferably full sets.”
Having hired us, Ketch assumed Yaddle can read between the lines a bit…
Yaddle nods, but motions for the group to follow him out of the warehouse, back into the alley way in the city of Sigil. Once again, you're all met with the view of the city curving up around you, and a strip of city far above, through a veil of smog. The morning light is starting to glow as you've been awake all night, having entered the book world during the day, even though it was night here. You all realize, in addition to bearing the wounds, from that place, you're also all quite tired...not having slept in over a day.
Yaddle looks about, "Well, for sssskeletonsss, I sssuggesssst you go to the Mortuary. It issss run by the Dussstmen, a faction here. Though 'courssse that'sss in the Hive Ward and not the mossst hosssspitipal placccce. And not ssssure bout...what they do there with the bodiessss they collect."
He looks down at the 'wild animal' standing near him. The cat looks up at him placidly. It blinks slowly at him. "Uh...find a portal to the outlandssss for that one I think. There are tour operatorssss in the market ward who take people on portal toursss.....find them....bessst bet I think."

"A portal tours?" Lionel did not say "I wont my money back" but mostly because it was not his money they were spending on the guides so far. "Thank you for information."He looked up and sighed a bit - the book world felt even more real now and already made him nostalgic. "We will find you in the Wheel then."
Lionel looked at others. "Strange, I feel as if we have not slept in days. Probably time is as weird here as space. What do you say we return to our place and rest a bit? We can begin checking places out at dawn - or whatever passes here for the morning."
Are those with advantage?
