"Whatever you wish, Mordekai, but stay still, please, the statue told me to fix these ropes around you - that way you can be just like it and better understand it's divine beauty." Lionel did not stop swaddling Mordekai while cooing in the most calming reassuring voice.
"Stop that! I don't want to be like it, I just want to be close to it! Get these ropes away from me. And stop with the weird voice, I'm not a child!"
(Mordekai hasn't stood still enough to let Lionel get the ropes around him, and will wriggle out of the ropes every time Lionel gets it around him. Happy to roll for it if required, but just picturing the actions of a fidgety toddler whilst Mordekai is claiming not to be a child.)
"Do you not just think it's the most magnificent statue? Let's get it out of here so the world can see it! You pick it up, I'll Dimension Door us both out, as long as you're willing to come with me. I just can't carry it myself. Please stop trying to drag me away, and just help me?"
We sure can roll by now - Lionel is not going to stop.
"No one is dragging you away, quite the opposite, I want you to be closer to it. Stop struggling and let me tighten the rope - I can not do anything until we are done here, can I? Then we talk doors and teleports".
Lionel, it's magical darkness surrounding you, so you can no longer see Mordekai, so roll an Acrobatics (Dex) or Athletics (Str) check with disadvantage. Mordekai, contest as normal.
Meepo, without being able to see the statue the fog on your mind seems to dissolve. Now in the darkness you suddenly realize what the statue was doing to you, but you've shaken its hold on you. You hear Lionel and Mordekai struggling in the darkness. Ulthan, you stand back watching as the area fills with darkness. You're outside the darkness. You see the human through the doorway, down below. He looks up, trying to spot you in the darkness.
Roll a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw. No bonus from Lionel, he's too far away.

Reminder if worshiper was facing Ulthan while casting spell, no rock was thrown, Ulthan just dodged out of site since he's still outside the room. Since no one is watching the outside, Ulthan will be spending time doing that, letting glowy one to look after his friends, if he can't solve the problem, don't see how a stranger would especially since he doesn't seem to want to break the damn thing. Besides, Ulthan had the weird compulsion almost beat him last time he came close to it, so he intends to stay as far away as possible.

Mordekai, despite not being able to see you, the strong warrior grabs you on your arm, and begins wrapping rope around you, you struggle, but he's surprisingly nimble in the darkness and tough to deal with. You find yourself quickly being bound.
Ulthan, a green flaming sphere comes flying out from behind the statue. Ismark sees it and dives for cover, but the skull glances up at you and cackles. It blasts you with magic missiles. You take 2 force damage. Your action.
Meepo, you can act freely of course, but you're in darkness.

After making sure Mordekai is well fixed inside the improvised rope cocoon (and getting tiefling gagged too, btw, no casting!) Lionel picked the warlock up and took him - again - as far away from the statue as possible, to the balcony, I guess. "Meepo, I will be back," Lionel did not really hope Meepo cares about his presence, it was said mostly for his own reassurence.
(Can Ulthan see the statue through the Darkness? Not sure if that affects anything, but was what seemed to release Meepo. )
Mordekai is not about to let himself be tied up, friend or otherwise. As Lionel begins to overpower him, Mordekai will use his Fey Presence ability (DC16 WIS save for Lionel or be charmed by Mordekai - effect lasts "until the end of Mordekai's next turn").
(Not sure how this would work between PCs, you don't really get contested Persuasion checks, do you? And seems wrong for a PC to be "persuaded" to do something as that removes player agency over their character, but that's why the charming is there? It's unlikely that Lionel will fail that save anyway. Basically, Mordekai will try to charm Lionel, then (effectively what would be the next combat round?) attempt to persuade him to stop with the rope and pick up the statue.)

In case of initiative albeit simple enough skull goes I go.... Init 17. Ulthan says loud enough "hrmph!" and also reasonably loudly so they can definitely hear me "Skull coming to take the statue away! hrmpfh!" Arrows fly out at the skull in quick unison, right through the eyesockets striking the back of the skull and exploding out the back. At least that's how Ulthan imagines it before he looses his arrows. Obviously an optimist. Arrow1: 8 Damage: 14 Arrow2: 15 Damage: 20
(First, Lionel can not see Mordekai, so, how can he be charmed at all? Second - player agency is sacred! Lionel will overcome his sudden affection anyway. Third, are you absolutely sure you want to go this way? :) )
(I have no idea if Lionel can be charmed! I'm just asking the question and leaving the DM to answer it! Happy with whatever ruling is given, by the way.
And no, I, Xarboth, don't want to go this way. Well, maybe a little, I'm sure we'll all laugh about it in years to come if we survive. But there's a weird balance between being able to think and act normally vs the compulsion of this statue, that Mordekai is thinking clearly enough to try all of his tricks in order to remain under its spell!)

A PC can be magically charmed, just as much as an NPC can be magically charmed. Lionel, please make a DC 16 wisdom save, or you'll be inclined to stop tying him up and pickup the statue instead.
Ulthan can NOT see the statue. It doesn't affect anything.)
As two group members have a battle of wills in the darkness, they hear the 'twang' of an bow firing and the echo'ing clatter of arrows.
Ulthan, both arrows whiz past the skull that cackles and blasts you again with some magic bolts. 2 force damage.
Meepo concentration check: 16 DC is 10.
Meepo, darkness envelopes you, make a DC 16 Wisdom save. +3, Lionel is nearby.

Mordekai would cast Guidance on himself if possible, then Acrobatics: 18 + 2 Guidance if applicable.
