Choir makes a prayer to Akadi to be with her friends....they would be under water, but there would still be air in there. Surely Akadi would enjoy the rare chance to explore under the Styx? Well, maybe not.

Once the girls got inside, Bazelsteen closed the hatch, hammering it in with his enormous fist, and gave a signal to a couple of devils on the deck. The barge moved with jerk and much screeching only to stop a hundred yards away from the dock. The devil squinted, calculated something and mover the rusting freight a bit further. Satisfied, he begun to move the crane’s controls lowering the bathysphere down.
Under the water
Foul liquid was slowly covering the view.To Fran's and Polly's surprise, blood-colored "water" was not that muddy, once you were underneath the surface. The River turned out to be inhabited too. Something was moving there - long sleek bodies, barely visible but making you question the true safety of the contraption.
The light of the nine ever-setting suns was enough to keep some degree of visibility up to the very bottom of the slow moving river. It felt as if you were submerged into a dirty gello - viscous liquid could not flow there but now when you stop you could see what it's made of (in addition to some genuine trash, like dead bodies of most disgusting creatures you could imagine). Souls - millions and billions of souls, pressured together, transparent, shapeless and yet somehow with visible faces, distorted with scream of endless agony. One of your goal was all around you - just press the button to siphon as much as you wish.
(Please, give me a series of rolls. Perception (to spot the bag, DC 15) and six (6) Dexterity rolls each if you are siphoning the souls.)
On the barge
Minutes passed by. Ordrag enjoyed the view of red sky above him, devils relaxed on the deck, Bazelsteen, Choir, Adray, Lulu and Mooncolor watched the rusty chain now motionlessly hanging from the crane. All was indeed quiet and even peaceful on the stinking shores of the River. "Might be done soon," declared Bazelsteen not lifting the the bathysphere up yet, though, and at that moment Ordrag noticed a few black dots in the sky, that were getting bigger as he watched. Soon they take a shape he already saw once - vrocks , ten of them. Heading towards the Docks (and likely the barge too).
Bazelsteen looked up, cursed in Infernal (everything sounds as cursing in that language but that sounded very emotional) but instead of getting bathysphere up run along the barge promising to "demote every lazy demons-food he sees not ready to fight". With that he took to the air and flew towards the Docks. His two helpers joined him a moment later.

Adray looks to his group still up on the barge and to those in the water, then finally to the approaching enemies. "We keep the contraption safe until they can get the stuff and back here safely. Once they are up, we get them on stable ground and end the threat. If you got range, use it. We stand here together."
Seeing the incoming OwImp relays the information to Polly. “This wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t gone for a dip!” OwImp complains. “Though they’re probably just after your new demon body! I told you it was a mistake! Things like this don’t happen to respectable gnomes!”
((Can Imps talk? Non-telepathically? I assume so but... unsure. If they can, then OwImp plays battlefield commander, staying invisible and defensively flying while shouting out where opponents are and such, all while grumbling and complaining. If they cannot talk, then Fianna will use her Voice of the Chain master to speak through her Familiar and do much the same thing, just slightly delayed since OwImp has to tell her then her about it out... though there would be less grumbling!))

Polly will press the button to gather the souls, reluctant at first but a deal is a deal. Besides, she’d not put it past a devil to have the button be what grabbed the rods and the rod retriever actually get the souls.
When Polly learns what is happening above she relays the information to Fran. “We should go back up and help,” Polly says, trying to remain calm. ”I can bring us back down here later. After.”
“Ready?” Polly lays her hand upon Fran’s shoulder and awaits her sign before Dimension Door ing them both back to their companions.

Indeed, the underwater adventure went surprisingly successful. The devil was right about his precise eye - he lowered the diving bell practically near the bag, scaring away some creature that looked like a demonfrog. Fran found the manipulator was quite simply to navigate, the thing was precise enough if a bit clumsy, but after a while artificer managed to grab the bag firmly with that "hand".
Meanwhile, the containers connected to siphoning pumps were slowly filling up. That's when OwImp informed his Master about attack.
The newborn Imp enjoyed his role of battle-commander (no one objected, probably too busy fighting - demons brought some ground troops as well the battle for the Docks was happening now both in the air and on the ground). Lazy devils proved to be a good fighters, there was probably no need to worry about loosing the Docks.
Unfortunately, Bazelsteen said the truth - demons were using the River Styx to reach Avernus. And the group had a chance to see it for themselves. A strange very quiet boat lightly touched the barge - it did not even move - and three demonic creatures climbed aboard: huge horned abomination all spikes and claws (you could recognize glabrezu from the "Demonology" some of you read in Candlekeep) and two smaller frog-like demons, that Polly and Fran would recognise should they be already here - Hydroloths
Choir's spell summoned the Fog, and though the cloud was not enough to cover the whole barge, the crane and everyone around were hidden. Not for long and you could barely see, but you also had some time to prepare to attack.
(Demons in 80ft from the group on the other side of the barge. You are in the fog cloud - can not see and can not be seen)

Polly and Fran found themselves in the fog. You can not see anything and the only "eye out" is Owis/OwImp, that could report (once he left the battle in the Docks) that three demons are advancing to your position. The horned-and-clawed abomination - Glabrezu - cast a piercing look at your direction, then looked straight at Owis as if clearly seeing him and sent the message: "Fly away little Imp if you want to live."
