When Fran finished her communication session with the Captain, you heard some wing-flapping noise from the roof of bathhouse, soon lost covered by the sounds of waking up city.
It took some time for the Captain to arrive and you had a chance to count now completely yours treasure. The result is: in addition to the potions, Mask and Crown, there are 6900 cp, 1750 sp and 10 eye agates. There is no gold there but silver is at your disposal - Captain does not know yet what did you find there.
When Captain Zodge finally came - personally and with his "furious six", you had for some time already keep employees out of the bathhouse. Captain simply barked "btha closed, get away" - and workers disappeared before he even finished the sentence.
"You look like shit," immediately commented Minaqua, grinning at the group. Then half-orc woman sniffed the air and added: "smell too". Issio (Fran's blond admirer) winked at Fran: "See you were busy" he nodded at dead and chained cultists, that made him to notice Choir's impressive outfit: "fancy swim hat you got there, birdy, but I'd say soap and oils here need some work."
Captain did not interrupt happy banters: he studied the yard, reading the signs of the last fight, checked the bodies, looked inside the bathhouse and finally turned to the group "Report".
Adray raises his hand and brushed his hair out of he face before stepping forward. "Sir." He looks at the others and says, "feel free to add in if I miss anything," and then turns back to the Captain. "We started in the evening, and entered there," pointing to where the secret entrance was. "There is a secret entrance leading into a whole fricken temple. Though much of is flooded. Down there housed what we've been lead to believe is their leadership. We went room by room, cleared out all the cultists, though we left a bed room with some undead still locked up, and made our way to their area of worship. They had kidnapped a number of people with connection to noble houses and were torturing them for information such as things to rob and guard schedules but that's not the interesting part."
"When we got to their temple area, we found Mortlock Vanthapur fighting their leader, a weird bastard with no skin on his head, just a skull, kind of off putting. Anyways, after t was done he dropped some incriminating info. He's one of the son's Duke Vanthapur. Turns out she's been behind it all. She pressed for Duke Ravengard to go to Elturel and knew it would disappear. In fact, said it was transported to the Nine Hells. She then brought in the cultists to stir up trouble and claim the Flaming Fist couldn't keep the safety cause she wants all the power. He went as far to say that she probably wants Balder's Gate to transport to hell as well."
He takes a moment to let it sink in before continuing. "Mortlock has split town, his family has shown him no love and his brother Amirk sent the cultists to kill him and said something about Thurstwell keeping at the house and using imps to spy on everyone. And then there is the chests. The cultists here stole them from the Cult of the Dragon and whilst coming back they attacked. Those two were the only ones left alive after were done with them."
Fran too was tired of lugging everything around, and now cultists too? She'd take a moment, plop herself down on a chest and pull out her sending stone. Dunno why I didn't just check in with the captain before we left the stinkin' sewers.
The artificer would activate the sending stone. "Aye Capt. We're alive an' well outside the bathhouse. We got some loot an' prisoners. Our hands are full 'ere. Could use a hand eh." Once the message was sent, she'd pull the dragon mask from of the chests (if Polly doesn't have it on her person) to put in her possession, along with any of the other special items (if Polly doesn't have them on her person). She'd look to her teammates, "Just in case, make sure yeh got want you want most on yer person. Figured if the captain sends us a hand or two, it could save us some trips through the streets with our haul"
Fran would smile seeing Choir adjust her crown. "Suits you Choir." Fran would nod before turning to Polly. "How do yeh feel about some study dates to go over all of the magical items and texts?" She'd pan around to everyone, "Other's welcomed of course."
“It really does suit you!” She say to Choir, agreeing with Fran.
“And I would love to study with you Fran, from what little I have read in them, they are todays real treasure and will improve my understanding of magic greatly!”
After todays excursion, Polly has really taken to Fran. She was a huge help to her and has proven to be both a friend and someone to trust. The rest is also growing on her, and her curiosity of Choir hasn’t faded the slightest. How can she use so many different voices? It must be some secret magic behind it..
She follow Frans suggestion and grab as much silver and gold as she can fit in her pockets and bag.
("As much as can fit in a pocket" is not an actual measuring unit. Either give me a specific number, or be prepared to the very small pockets or even absence thereof ;) )
Captain Zodge listened intently (hardly even blinking) getting in all the information. "So, all Dead Three cultists are killed, you left some mindless undead in there, found some non-cultists, including Mortlock Vanthampur, that claimed Duke Thalamra Vanthampur and his brothers harassed people of Baldur's Gate to weaken Flaming Fist and take the power, all to send Baldur's Gate to Nine Hells as they did with Elturel? Then you let all the witnesses - including Mortlock Vanthampur - to go, but instead apprehended some random treasure hunters, who you think are from another cult, Dragon this time, and knows nothing about the events?"
"Ahh...that's pretty darn close to the mark sir. You could verify it with a Vendetta Kress. She was a Tiefling we saved from torture. Said she worked for the Oathoon family. She was there through the last bit of it and heard Mortlock confess it all," he replied.
"The say you say it makes it all sound a little suspect if not crazy but we were sent to clear out the dead three, the rest is just bonus info. I'm uh not from around here and dont know the political situation all that well but would this Duke Vanthampur benefit the most from our commander disappearing?"
Captain studied the dead bodies and the silently glaring bound cultists for some time. "It's not as if I did not believe you. I see the cultists, and that scum is always better dead. I also believe in Duke Thalamra Vanthampur's involvement with the goal to compromise Flaming Fist - this is an old feud. The Nine Hell stuff - would not lie, here you lost me. Even for the magic it sounds way too crazy - good for cultist's, I guess, not so believable for normal people. Still, not my concern now - the cult is. The problem is, officially Duke Vanthampur has nothing to do with the Dead Three or that bathhouse. I'll find your tiefling. But her word would not be enough to go against Duke Vanthampur - not even close. We need more here."
"Take the chests and your friends to HQ, guys will help you." he nodded to Oliver and Soltus (two humans, you slowly learn the names of Zodge's personal squad): "Prisoners in jail, chests," he looked at Adray again: "technically chests are yours. Where do you want them?" While team was thinking he finished his orders: "get the wolf team with the priest - and double back here."
"You," he turned to the party again, "I will see afternoon - you do deserve some payment, but the job is not finished yet. We need to discuss what to do with Vanthampur and the rest of the cult."
"Right sir, thank you sir," he says to the captaion. He turns to address the others and then turns back to the Captain. "Polly had done some checking with her magic down there and there are three statues at the end, they seem to have some negative stuff so be careful." Turning to the others helping with the chest he says, "Why don't we take the chests back to our quarters. We'll figure out something after that."
Fran would return Minaqua's grin. "Aye, 'n some of us are really gunna feel like it too."
"An' we're gunna put yeh to work." The artificer will pick up a chest, smirk, and hand it to Issio. She'll go grab another one.
When the Captain would call for the report, Fran will stand up straight to pay attention. She appreciated Adray's recap and honestly did not expect Zodge to poke holes in what they did so quickly. The artificer would find some humour in it after the fact, she'd let out a little snort, but then revert to trying to keep a straight face.
After a moment, Fran would get a passing thought. She'd look to Choir, then to the Captain. "Would an EXACT recording of this information count?"
Ordrag responds to Adray with the suggestion they could spend or exchange their coin along the way, so the Dragon Cult don't track it back to them. The further they spread it around, the harder it will be for the cult to track it
