On second thoughts, if this devil was so intent on staying guard, we could have just left him here, thought Ordrag. He prepares to fight, but holds back to see if anyone can resolve this through more subtle means...

Adray is confused for a moment and then smiles behind the mask.  He moves over and grabs Ordrag and whispers, "play along."  He then makes a dramatic show and moving behind Ordrag and ushering him forward.  "Come intruder, you shall be tossed in cell."

When behind his back and his lips are not visible he says, "Fran, stay a step back and tell the others to prepare to rush in.  Nibs and I will attack when we get close."

Ordrag puts on a show of resistance, pretending to tug away from Adray and begging: Please no, don't let him tear me apart, me too young to die, me blood not taste very nice, but all the while gripping his weapons under his cloak and flexing his muscles for battle...

Devil with a life beard looked pleased: "One cell is still free," heard Adray in his head, "bring in the prisoner." Despite his previous words he did not try to rip Ordrag apart but allowed both of you to come close enough, so he can point out the free cell. The creature indeed was guarding the room lined by iron doors, each is set with a small barred window. One door was open invitingly.

Ordrag continues to play along until he gets the prompt from Adray to attack... Are you sure this cell is sanitary? It looks questionable to me. 

As they neared and were within striking distance.  Adray wait until the devil pointed and drew his gaze to the cell.  At that moment he tapped Ordrag and said "now."

Wanting Ordrag to attack 1st.

Feeling the nudge, Ordrag whipped out his two weapons and struck at the devil, all while still 'begging' for mercy, hoping to prolong the confusion:

Please don't rip me apart! Me won't tell anyone, me promise!

Devil did not look like someone who even heard about the word "sanitary" but any kind of begging was a music to his ears. Ordrag's sudden attack not so much surprised as angered him (though, who knows, he could welcome a distraction).

Everyone planning to participate - roll initiative. The distance for everyone is 30 ft (Adray and Ordrag are right by the devil), all but Reya can attack even in melee.

Devil Init: 19 , Reya: 18

Hearing commotion and occasional growling in inferno, Reya joined the others, fortunately after the ruse - she did not look like a good actor or someone willing to talk to the open enemies.

Choir doubts her arrows will do much harm to a devil, but she has a glowy magic mace now! She runs toward the enemy and whacks it in the kneecap.

Initiative: 8

Attack: 21 Damage: 10

Hearing the growl Polly rush forth around the corner and whisper “Magus Oro” with her hands raised in a triangle formation casing magic missile on him.

Immediately after Ordrag attack, Adray shifted to the side and made a series of three strikes, a punch to the face, a kick to the knee and an open palm strike to the chest.

Spending ki point for flurry.

Unarmed strike 1, if hit dc 13 dex save to avoid falling prone Attack: 11 Damage: 5

If he falls prone, the attack gets advantage and he loses reaction, if he resists, 2nd save vs being knocked prone if attack hits

2nd attack roll if he got advantage 14

Fran would cock her crossbow and let a bolt fly. She'd let out the familiar whistle to send Brutus bounding for the devil.

Attack: 15 Damage: 10

Bonus action: Steel defender Force-Empowered Rend Melee Weapon Attack: 20 Damage: 4 force damage.

Adray was the first one to attack. Unexpected devil missed the whole series of strikes ( Dex 1 16 and 2 - 11 ) and even worse - lost his balance and dropped to the ground.

Reya was just shooting from the distance Attack: 19 Damage: 9

while Ordrag was readying his weapons, successfully landing both attacks.

But now it was devil's turn - he managed to stand up and then something strange happen - Adray got entangled in devil's beard Attack: 18 Damage: 9 It did not stick, though, Adray managed to free himself. And devil tried to plunge his glaive into Ordrag: Attack: 24 Damage: 5 somehow missing, though.

Range brigade represented by Fran and Polly successfully pierced poor creature with bolts and magic, while Choir and Brutus added more damage to the pile ( Choir's hit even made devil to growl again and probably raised her position in his targets list).

Round 2

 Pleased at the new weapon's easy handling and the heavy thump it made on impact, Choir tries another whack. Attack: 7 Damage: 8

Apparently this mace takes a little getting used to....

Ordrag isn't one for fancy moves. He just relies on brute strength and primal savagery ... but these fiends are tougher opponents than pirates.

Adray cringed a little as he recoiled from the tentacle chin thing.  "Watch out for that tentacle things, best we just kill him now," he calls out.  He then joins in and continues the assault by drawing his shortsword and stabbing with it and then launching a kick as it's knee caps.

Feeling the backlash of casting magic Polly decide to summon her mage hand. She hold her hand in front of her palm up and whisper “Argetlam” and a spectral silver band appears. and she moves it over to the monster.  

ooc: don’t forget about flanking for Ordrag and Adrey in case they are on opposite sides of the fiend :) it gives you advantage :) 

There is nothing wrong with the brute force - it can successfully substitute even diplomacy, in particular, when you are dealing with devils. Bearded monster did not stood a chance - after he suffered yet another attack from Adray, Ordrag finished off what was left of the creature, smashing his skull into the bloody pulp.

Or he would - but if there is one good thing you can say about devils on our plane, they leave no trace of existence once they are killed. Another cloud of black smoke - and the body disappeared, leaving behind just the key ring with a single massive key on it.
