Song keeps silent, staring down at her untouched plate, letting the message to Kallak fade away. This is all far too much. She has dragonblood in her veins, true dragonblood from the monsters of legend, but she’d spent all her life trying to stay far out of anything that even looked like it might involve the Reef. People always want to use you.
Okay - First, let’s get out of the palace, then the city, country, and anything else that wants to pull you into politics.
“Yeah, sure - what’s the pay? ‘Handsomely’ could mean a lot of things” Song said, trying to project the air of a disinterested sellsword.
Palisade twitches slightly as his eyes focusing on Olive when they mentioned burning a temple down. The look on his face is a mix of rage and incredulity that such a thing was said so flippantly. "No such thing will happen. If this tome is important then it is likely that other objects in such a place will be worth something even if it may only be enough to gather more knowledge. Just be careful to not touch anything that you do not understand unless I have a chance to obserce them first."
"Your majesty," Rixton says, trying to bridge the gap between royalty and...mercenary...styles of communication. "You have almost sold these experienced but fiercely independent people on your plan. We lack the...unit cohesion of your own troops, however. This is a surmountable problem, but if we are to enter into a dangerous endeavor, you will want to...maximize the chance of our success. As a show of support, perhaps outfitting this group with some improved gear would serve to align all of our interests and guarantee these brave men and women some compensation up front."

Fireheart looks to his Golden Guard, who sort of shrugs back. "Very well. Come with me." The King stands and walks out of the room. The guard says, "move along." And I'm sure with little pushback except for Olive who is probably nodding off again or something you all follow.
"This is my person collection, and while it's not much... I suppose it could be a taste of what you're in for." He leads you to a vault he stands in front of it and you hear some murmurring and can tell he is doing some sort of motion but it is both hard to hear and see from where you are.
The vault opens and inside is neatly stacked gold and platinum and rows of armor and robes and wands and staffs... King Fireheart walks to the back of the room and wheels forward a mirror. You look into the mirror and you see another vault room with even more items and coin.
"Something like this? And I hear you. The quiet one and you..." He turns to Rixton, "You make a good point. Though, I cannot invest in you. You will recieve a little... start-up gold from our friend here Captain Dehkar. You will each receive 200 gold in your pouch. I will also be giving one of you a sending stone. Use it wisely and sparsely please. Only in an emergency. The other will be held by Captain Dehkar. Upon completion I will give you four times as much gold and outfit you with something from my castle's collection."
Impressed by the vault Kravek takes a few steps to walk around, not caring much for the gold but trying to inspect the craftmanship weapons and armor stored here. Perhaps determining what materials were used and in what region it was made to see what the king has gathered here.
Perception 4
He will not speak to the king yet, nor would he help Rixton persuade him (sorry). Realising this king has much to spend so still a bit confused as to why we would be picked for this task.
Kravek would look to the group to see what their plan is. Interested in gear and valuable ore as a reward he would be willing to go to this island.
Olive is sobering up seeing how real things have suddenly become and keeps her mouth shut. She pulls the wine bottles out of her bag and places those on a nearby bench or something similar. Then follows along quietly.
You do recognize the voice, and you can easily place it. It is a red dragonborn -- whose name you never caught. Until now. The red dragonborn is the one who made all the orders to experiment on you while you were captured. He is the one who implanted the magic in your brain.
Kravek, you are so awestruck by the mounds of platinum and gold that you cannot think of anything else... except for how you might spend it if it were yours.

Kallak looks around at all the golden treasures, for the first time realizing what the wealthiest and most powerful people in the kingdoms truly possess. She's awestruck, and a little angry at the injustice of it all, but her boredom is dissolving quickly. Getting on a boat as a favor to her uncle is one way to move along, but this would be more interesting. "Auril, I think we've got a detour coming up," she says to her goddess.
When the king mentions 200 gold payment upfront and a promise of a finely-crafted item afterward, that seals the deal for her. "Sure,"she tells King Fireheart, and extends her hand to shake.
As Palisade looks through the room with a bit of interest,a certain imp plans to try and grab anything that he can easily carry before he is grabbed by the warforged near him. Once he quickly shoves the infuriated imp in his pack, Palisade nods and will move to look at the stone to see if it holds anything of interest of its surface. Anyone near him will hear angered grunts coming from his bag.
Rixton'strademark smirk returns as Kallak agrees. "Your highness," he says with a curt, practiced bow. "I think you have found your people."
Rixtonlooks around to his compatriots, raising his eyebrows and a smirk. "If you want out now, speak now."
He returns to his Majesty and says, "Will we have to time to select some gear from the town's establishments? And perhaps we shall work out our transportation with Captain Dehkar."
"Eh, I'll set up a ferry for ya, but that's it. You're on your own." Dehkar says.
Fireheart speaks back up, "Yes, yes. I'm afraid while he may have a little more leeway, he mustn't be too involved either. The day is still early. I will have rooms set up for you at Pleasant View Inn, you all seem familiar with it. Go on, spend the gold as you wish. But please be wise with. I will have guards check by the Inn tomorrow to make sure you're on your way." Fireheart ushers you all out of the vault. "Ah yes, and one more thing, please, exit it through the back. Dehkar will show you the way." Fireheart hands Rixton the sending stone and a map with an X on it where the ferry will be as he passes.

Looking at the room of treasure beyond imagining, Kai almost stood dumbfounded. Years of disguise and acting helped keep his demeanor appropriately awed but not drooling. Still he couldn't help but eye the room for things others would look past. Something to give him an advantage in the coming trial.
The itch strikes you, but as you look closely with your investigation you start to realize the coin is so meticulously stacked that it is probably counted. If you were to ask the King how much coin is in here he would probably know the answer down to the copper...if there were any in here.

After leaving the manor Kravek will walk through the town to find the local smithy. He wanders around the shop a bit picking up some items to inspect them a bit closer to see how well they are made. Feeling the material to try and feel the purity of the material.
Eh.. You looking for something? Says the blacksmith. Just putting a red hot sword into the water to cool it down as a loud sizzling sound is created paired with rising fog from the water. As the fog obscures Kravek's vision of the blacksmith he does hear him putting down some tools then sees the man walk out of the fog as it is starting to clear again, walking towards Kravek.
The blacksmith sizes up Kravek as he is still inspected a weapon I would like to purchase a few things. I will need that armor as he points to a splint mail that he just passed in the shop. And these tools. Gathering Smithy tool's and a whetstone. When i have more coin i will come back for some of these pointing to some more expensive looking items while ignoring the items placed in front for the common crowd.
You have experience with smithing? Not expecting a normal soldier to spot the difference in items I have worked in a smithy yes.
With the recent attack demand for my goods will go up again, i could use someone to help out if you can prove your skills.
Thank you, but I have work that requires travel. Perhaps i have need of your forge if i find ore.
The blacksmith shrugs Alright, well im sure we can come to an agreement. Id be happy to work with whatever ore you find. Or put in an order for you?
Just these will do, pushing the gathered supplies onto the counter and having taken off his current armor placing it next to it And i wont have need for this anymore
Scratching his head the blacksmith looks at the items seeing him calculate in his head Hmm, well id let you have this for 182gp and 5sp and your current armor.
Placing the gold on the counter they finish the trade and Kravek starts putting on the armor and putting on his gear again and placing the tools in his bags. He then nods a goodbye and walks out of the store towards the Inn. Thanks for your business, hope to see you again the blacksmith calls out as he goes to continue his work.
Kai moves through the store slowly eyeing the various items. It was a rare occasion he had money to 'spend' on more than chemicals and reagents. He listened to the others assessments of items and inquire about different pieces. He finds a Shortsword of warning and asks for the price, "600 gold, a fine price to be sure." Kai nods and hefts the weapon but tries not to look too interested.
"Ehhh, 600 seems a little steep for such a common enchantment." He sheathes it and sets it back in the rack, "If it was more like...250 I'd be interested."A very low ball price, but that was bartering right?
Olive walks in just as Kai is putting on his moves and notices a Ring of Mind Shielding and the tag of 600 gold. She is pretty unrecognizable, having done a long series of prestidigitation on the way to the shop.
She mentalizes to Kai, "This seems like an opportunity, I'll play along"
Out loud she sides with the shopkeeper, "Why don't you offer another 150 gold for the ring there," talking to Kai and pointing to the ring she is interested in, " and walk out of here paying three times less than it's worth?"
Turning to the shopkeeper, "What's your practice for multiple items? What's a realistic discount on these items if he were to TRY to make a realistic offer for both of those together? With like a really sad story that they need to go fight a mind-reading boogeyman to save a bunch of children or something like that?"

After you all depart from the King's mansion. Kravek finds one of local smithies and Kai seems to be the first to find the largest magic shop in the continent, The Enchanted Chupacabra.
The owner of The Enchanted Chupacabra is a rather tall, rather fat Elf by the name of Adamar Luna.
Adamar chuckles at Kai's attempt to haggle. "HA! That there is a good one. Look, I haven't seen you around here before. And normally... I would have you thrown out on yer arse for trying to haggle down ol' Adamar... but I'll tell ya what. 550 gold. No less."

As he finds what he is looking for he will take the Bag of Holding to the owner once he is done speaking with Kai. He will pull out the necessary gold. "Would you be able to tell me where I could perhaps pick up a few potions for my more fleshy companions? If it can be helped I wish for them to remain alive during our journey."
