Dreams Into Journey

Smallfry looks greedily over Lia's shoulder.

"That sounds... uh, enticing," he says. "Where'd you say you found that again?"

"Sounds useful." Lia says, tucking it back away.  "Do you know who might be able to help me understand how to use the thing?" 

Lia ignores Smallfry's avaricious query and asks about how to use the dreamstones.

Nessarian speaks up, "I do recall that we did find out that you could attune to them while lucid dreaming. But, I believe we have stumbled into a loophole that requirement. Otherwise, I don't think the stones would not be acting this way."

"... Lucid what...?" One of them says perplexed.

"Simply stated, it is a technique that allows one to control your dream body with your conscious mind as if you were awake. It's difficult, but achievable."

"Meaning that normally another, what, 'unconscious part' of your minds would be in charge?"

"More complicated than that, but in essence, yes."

"Hmm.. That is new. But I think with those, the vast majority of us nightmares would be less likely to give you trouble. The only ones that might not care are the Terrors, nasty bunch of jerks, them."

"So, maybe I can attune to it now..." Lia suggests, sitting down and holding the amulet in her palm once more. She would try to attune to it.

The group watches as Lia focuses on her energies in the dreamstone. It's clear, white light slowly changes to a cool, glimmering blue.

What stone can do is revealed to her:

"Very useful..." Lia says as she tucks the stone away once more.  "Shall we continue, and find our way out of this dream land?"  She asks the others.

"I gotta say, I have never seen that before. It is a both an awe-inspiring and sobering thing to witness. Sorry about the scare. We'll spread the word about you."

The nightmares all bid their farewells to the party and scatter, clearing their path.

Looking at the lodestone Lyssida gave them. It's still pointing in the same direction as when they first started.

DM Screen:

The shadows start lengthening, heralding evening. A cavern is seen not too far away. As you approach it, the pulsing of the lodestone is getting faster and faster.

"Seems like we are getting close." lia says, nodding to the cavern ahead.

"Aye, 'tis might be whar we're goin'. 'less tha' stone o' yers is 'bout ta 'xplode!"

OOC: was the attunement long enough for a short rest?

Oswin continues to follow along, keeping quiet in the back of the group.

"Anyone want to scout the cavern before we enter, or should we just go in?" Lia asks, worried about meeting other unfriendly beings here, though the last ended up being nice, after almost killing them all.

((I thought so about the short rest, but wanted to be sure before resetting my features like superiority dice))

"I kin go in first an' check it out." Jororic declares and heads toward the entrance.

After some trepidation, Jororic volunteers to enter the cavern, to which, the lodestone led them. The red light of the setting sun illuminates its mouth giving it the appearance of a fiery interior. But beyond the point where the light fades, a soft, faint, blue-green glow is seen in a natural tunnel.

Lia would be following their scout, letting them have 20 feet or so of a head start.

Jororic pauses at the entrance, but continues in.

As Jororic and Lia get closer, it becomes more apparent that the soft glowing of the tunnel isn't coming from any single source. Rather, it seems to be more or less evenly spread throughout the tunnel itself. More specifically, coming from very small crystals that are peppered around the walls.

As Oswin follows them in, he’d try to lever one of the crystals off the wall.

Lia would continue to follow the direction of the loadstone.

"Lia, do dese crystals look like yers?" Jororic stops to inspect them as he asks the question. "Wish I 'ad me a good pick ta get somma dese. I wonner if'n dey be useful in our world?" he ponders aloud.
