With that, Ellywick leads you back outside, and after spending those few, seemingly long hours underground, the warmer, clean open air feels immensely refreshing, at least to everyone who isn’t a dwarf. Of course, with the overwhelming air of evil inside the temple, perhaps Chrys even relishes finally being out of there and out into the expanse of nature.
The gnome leads you back to her secluded campsite on the backside of the small rise, and once there, she rekindles the embers from her small fire and gets a small flame going again.
Lumen lays the still-sleeping Harriet down again, and then Ellywick plops down onto the nice, soft flat ground that looks like it will make for a very comfortable night. You’ve been up for a very long time, and you figure there are probably 4 hours before daylight comes again.
"Mm... I actually am not much for it, but if need be, I'll use the restful trance technique that my people taught me," Kess would offer with another yawn, "In that way, I can be rested enough to allow the rest of you to sleep safely. Although I usually prefer to sleep."
Kess stifled another yawn, her eyes tiredly smiling at the starlight and the moon above; along with the sounds of a summer twilight, it was a refreshing sight, considering the horrors that had laid within the nearby cavern. The party's excursion into the dark had not seemed so very long, and yet the sound of owls, toads and other nocturnal denizens had a say in the matter.
Yes, the two Uthgardts are still tucked away in their hiding places in the banquet hall, fast asleep. They're extremely tired, to the point of having multiple levels of exhaustion. They will need at least a full day's rest before they would be ready to travel, and at this point. They're so out of it that they don't even wake up when you try and rouse them to go outside.
Assuming nothing happens in the night, Lumen volunteers to check the remaining door and the room at the end of the hall, above where the pool room likely opens to.
Krackle would look to Vesper and rub his snout. "Before I didn't know what was in here.." He would say before putting on the black mask. "The mask will help me be brave, and that will make me a better helper!" He would say as he bounced excitedly past Vesper towards those leading to way back Into the cave.
Fortunately, nothing does happen at night. You're all very tired from a long day that you almost can't seem to remember when it actually began. Between the hours-long trek through the woods, your tenuous, but peaceful encounter with the old bugbear Wuzig at the bridge, finding and scouting the area around the cave, and then making your first foray inside the underground temple, not to mention everything that happened after that, there's been quite a lot of excitement during the past 22 hours or so. So, in other words, sleep is extremely welcome at this point, and when you lay yourselves down on the soft dirt, sleep comes quickly.
Lumen takes the first watch, while Kess takes her trance, and then she relieves him to cover the rest of the night and morning. Letting everyone get the proper amount of rest that they require to remain strong and alert, she watches the dark black of night fade slowly to blue, until the warm hues of predawn begin to light the sky. Eventually, the fist rays of dawn kiss the trees around you with dappled specks of orange that slowly diminish in intensity as the sun rises higher into the sky. As the others rest in their deep slumber, she watches the forest world come alive again as small critters and birds flutter and scurry about in the trees and on the soft forest floor.
(Long rest accomplished.)
About four hours after sunrise, Kess finally wakes everyone up and you all ready yourselves for another day. With the intend to finish clearing out the temple, burning the goblin bodies and preparing for the long walk back to Melton. Ellywick prepares a quick breakfast of bread, cheese and nuts and then agrees to remain with Harriet until you return.
With Lumen leading, Chrys and Kess slightly behind, followed by Krackle and Vesper, you all retrace your steps back to the north end of the temple, down the very long hallway that lies south of the final hallway where you defeated Frida. Carefully opening the door, you indeed find that it leads to the north side of the pool room. Looking inside, you see that the water is still glowing with flickering green light, and a pale mist still floats around the edge at the base of the pool.
”Anyone know what to do with something like that? Should we throw a pebble in? Or leave it for a holy person to come and purify or de-creep or drain it or whatever they do? I had a cousin once who found a glowing river and, well, last I heard, Jertak was making things difficult for a few clerics and the local constable after he roared down the Spine with a bunch of new friends at his back.”
Is the chamber all stone? What does the pool actually look like? Lumen would want to cautiously try to figure out a bit more about what’s going on there, going only as far in as they did before.
"I don't think fillin' it with dirt is an answer... we'd have ta haul all the dirt from outside. 'Less you're talkin' 'bout the bodies of the goblins we slew. An' now that would be a real bad idea,"she adds, just to clarify the obvious.
Chrys would look at the pool, reaching out with her divine sense to see if there was anything evil dwelling at the bottom of it.
"I think we should all back away an' let Vesper's magic hand check 'round the bottom o' that pool for anything hidden there. If nothin' bad happens, then we gotta make a decision here. Lookin' behind that door with the warnin' on it or not? I'm thinkin' we should press on. If we don't deal with the evil here, who else is gonna? We don't know why Frida did what she did here. Maybe she was evil from the git-go. But maybe she weren't. What if this place corrupted ol' Frida? Would it reach out an' snatch somebody else too, now that she's gone?"
(Isn’t the door on the other side of the pool just the door that continues on to the hallway we didn’t initially explore? I think we have now explored the whole place...)
As you reach out with your Divine Sense ability, the presence of strong evil suddenly fills your entire being, as if it were some kind of horrid, noxious odor that's defouling this room. It immediately registers in your mind that there is a fiend of some sort in the pool.

Are the two Uthgardts still there inside the banquet hall? Lumen will tell them they can leave, if they want to...
He volunteers for first watch and then after that will sleep like a log.

Chrys will follow Lumen in.

Kess follows the two of them inside as well.
"These poor men... nobody deserves this."
Vesper goes in after Kess. "You used to be the first one in Krackle, now you're bringing up the rear!" She jokes.

"I could fill it with dirt" Krackle would reply with a smile hidden behind his mask.

(you might be right, and I'm confuzzled... we definitely have some zombite former halflings to kill here though, yeah.)
Ah right the zombies. Poor Harriet.
Can or should we drain the pool?
Is it still glowing like it was before? Anything different about it?
