Lumen had already grabbed for the mask to get it away from him, so feel free to take it as a help action. “Krackle listen to yourself! You’re not like that!”
"That's enough, Krackle," Kess spoke up, her tone taking on the forceful but soft tone of a mother disappointed in a child. "This is not like you at all, little one. I can't say for sure, but there is clearly something very wrong with that mask. Please, stop."

Though she's not sure what the little kobold went through with the dragonborn, she'd met Silver long ago; he'd actually been one of the motivating factors to get her off of her duff in the guardhouse and leave the confines of Twilight Tor with his small adventuring company. He'd even introduced her to the cleric who'd set her on the path to becoming a paladin. She can't help but feel an instinctual protectiveness of one of her greatest friends, and Krackle's ugly words bite deeper than he realizes.
"Silver weren't no meanie and it only makes you look bad to be callin' him such,"Chys says stiffly. "If he was here, I think you'da hurt him with those words, and that's rich, considerin' that's what yer blamin' him for - ye don't have a leg to stand on when ya throw around them insults. But I also think deep in yer heart, ya must know that. An' I do think that mask's clouded your judgement somethin' awful."
She stops, facing Krackle with her mouth set in a grim line.
"Ya don't come from the best o' situations - yer young, maybe too young, an' new at this adventurin' business. The people around ya wanna protect ya and see ya grow into yer own strengths. But when all's said an' done, everyone choses the path they're gonna walk with their own two feet. A cursed mask might be playin' on your own wish for riches, but it's only yerself, Krackle, who put that mask on in the first place. Each step ya take on yer life's journey is makin' ya grow, and when those steps prioritze yer own greed an' self-interest o'er kindness and loyalty... well. Ya can chose to grow in ways that will take ya off the path I'm walkin', but don't expect bein' young an' vulnerable ta save ya from my judgement when ya do. I owe it to my friends an' my faith to do better than that, even if it hurts yer precious feelins'."
Without waiting for Krackle's response, Chrys turns to Vesper.
"Keep a close eye on yer pack. Krackle's got swift fingers. 'Member, he managed to best Arine at the competition, and she was a real professional. I won't put it past him in this state ta try ta lift it from ya while ya ain't lookin'." Then, hefting her hammer over her shoulder, she very deliberately steps behind Lumen and makes sure Krackle is aware that she's watching him as she continues down the road. She does shoot a semi-apologetic glance at Lumen for making him uncomfortable with her intense stare, though.
Perception - let's call this the Anti-Naughty Krackle check, haha! : 7
“Krackle, don’t let the mask make you a jerk like my cousin Zaak. He found a cursed shield and it made him incapable of acknowledging he didn’t already know something when talking with people. Acted like a complete arrogant know-it-all. Might seem like nothing but it caused a small-scale war. We can help fix you.”
(If you are keeping track, Cousin Dak is the ugly one and Cousin Jertak is the one who found a glowing river and caused trouble with the local religious authorities.)
"That was mine! You're a meanie! You're all meanie heads!" The kobold would say as he falls to the ground as he fails to hold on to the mask. "Give it back nooOWWRROAR!" The small kobold would roar as his small frail body twists and transforms into a large brown bear. As he finishes his transformation, he would sniff the air with his wide eyes locked on thepapack containing the mask before lunging towards Lumen.

Vesper steps back as Krackle tries to seize the mask. "The mask is in the pack and it's going to stay there. Now you're going to switch back to your normal shape now or there's going to be consequences."

Lumen’s going to try something if we are about to enter initiative, spoilered for the DM:
He’d like to pretend to grab for the pack containing the mask and cast silent image to make it seem like he has grabbed the mask, and that he is throwing it 30-40 feet high up in a nearby tree, right at an illusory squirrel. This squirrel will then grab the mask and go far out on small branches, assuming the bear goes for the mask. Basically the illusion is of a mask appearing right by the pack and then rising up in a throwing motion to the tree branch, at which point the image turns into a squirrel holding the mask, which then moves around realistically in range.
Guessing this takes some kind of deception or sleight of hand check?
Assuming this works, he’d like to try to see if the mask can be broken or burned or something to destroy it.

"STOP IT, KRACKLE!" Kess growled in frustration, and to what might be the surprise of everyone in the party, she murmured an incantation and loosed what Vesper would immediately recognize to be a Fire Bolt straight into the dirt by her foot; she hadn't drawn her weapons, but her right hand had begun preemptively sliding towards the hilt of a scimitar. "Are you even listening to yourself? We're not trying to rob you, little one; we're trying to help you. I don't know if it is cursed or not, but that mask has altered your behavior, and not for the better!"
It would take her innately understanding that Lumen was trying to pull something, and either not moving to interfere, or actually improvising with him and pretending to toss him the mask.
Vesper won't interfere with what you're doing, but if you're creating a magical illusion, he would roll Investigation vs. your spell DC to see if it's a fake. And since he's got the intelligence of a bear, his odds aren't good

As the tone of the conversation quickly deteriorates to open hostility, Chrys's finely tuned combat sense allows her to react with surprising speed to Krackle's sudden transformation. As she watches her kobold companion turn into a large, fierce brown bear, the dwarf springs into action and wraps her stout limbs around the bear's head and neck, hoping to restrain it and keep it from letting loose on the group.
At the same time, Lumen reaches into Vesper's pack and then tosses the mask up into the air as high as he can. It lands about 30 feet up in a nearby tree and gets stuck amongst the sticks and leaves in the canopy. It now sits precariously balanced on a small branch, high out of reach.
(Krackle, it's your turn. Also, I need a contested Athletics check and a Perception check. I assume you roll both of those using the bear's abilities, right?)

OOC: Sure. We can say that Vesper snatched it while Lumen was distracting him.
Advantage roll: 11
Not much of an advantage, but she got it the first time.

Either way, you’re successful and Vesper now has the mask tucked away inside her pack.

Chrys murmurs under her breath, immediately blessing herself, Lumen, and Kess.
On her next opportunity (in case we're rolling initiative on this), she will grapple the brown bear formerly known as Krackle.
Possible rolls needed:
Initiative: 22
Contested Athletics Check (bless only affects the first touch "attack"): 11 + 3
Vesper steps back as Krackle tries to seize the mask. "The mask is in the pack and it's going to stay there. Now you're going to switch back to your normal shape now or there's going to be consequences."

Yikes...!!!! 😱
Ok, from Lumen, I need both initiative and let’s say a spell check, so your Proficiency bonus, plus CHA bonus.
Also, need I Initiative from Krackle.
Lumen initiative: 9
Lumen spell check: 26
initiative! 23
Bear strength check 24
Any chance Vesper could help on that spell check as the holder of the bag?
What would I be assisting with?

(Indeed. Just wondering if Lumen’s got a willing partner to allow that roll to come with advantage. Feel free to read the spoiler text above.)
