“I would be happy to assist you with this Krackle, my friend. There are a few merchants who offer delivery services that pass through Yartar once or twice every tenday, and I have some personal contacts I occasionally rely on for the transport of goods to and from other locales in the region. Coldfoot is near Red Larch, which is on The Long Road. Being a well traveled route, I don’t foresee any trouble arranging a timely delivery to that area.”
”I will wrap up these coins for you, address the bundle and see that it makes its way into the hands of someone I trust who’s headed in that direction. In my estimation, the delivery cost for such a distance would be somewhere in the order of 4 gp, but I will take care of that amount for you. Consider it additional appreciation for fixing our bell tower.”
"Thanks," Chrys tells Callum with a heartfelt smile. "I hope we'll be seein' you again soon enough an' in good health. May Luck be a Lady tonight!"
Once they've traveled far enough away from Callum and the bell tower, Chrys will answer Kess's question. "Yep," she replies with a satisfied nod. "The sooner we start off, the better, though. Remember, we still got one last piece o' that mask to get rid of, so it ain't only for Dundragon's friend that we're settin' off,"she reminds the others.
If they get to a store with the appropriate wares, Chrys will buy her smithing tools, and check the local prices on a mule - though she's not committed to purchasing a beast of burden.
During the excursion for supplies, Kess would set about finding a tailor and getting her clothing tended to. While there, she'd buy another set of Travellers' Clothes; if they had it, she would take a black and/or blue leather dress of some kind with enough of a cut in the legs to allow her free movement. She'd also seek to requisition a pair of blankets; even in the heat of summer, the north could be an unpredictable place, and should the Pie Pals find themselves strangely near the Spine of the World or the other mountain ranges leading up to it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have them handy!
The north was, after all, a savage place. It was time to prepare.
She'd also requisition the following, if she can find it:
- a bundle of 5 arrows - a hooded lantern, and at least two pints of oil if she can get them - a sack, for carrying additional supplies - a shovel - a healer's kit - Two bars of soap - a small steel mirror
(If they do stop at a store, Krackle would look for a theives tools kit and would place his whole pouch up on the counter while asking if he has enough to buy one... he has 27 gold)
Leaving the temple, you weave your way over to the merchant district and visit Donnal’s Provisions, where you get eager assistance from the energetic shop owner with the well-groomed handler mustache.
“A good day to you fine folks! I believe I saw you a during the middle of last tenday! If memory serves me, and it usually does, I sold you a lantern... and the robe that the little one is wearing! I’m so pleased I could accommodate, it does seem to fit him quite well!”
After his perfunctory greeting, you get down to business. Listening to Kess’s requests, he rummages around his crowded shelves and produces the following:
5 arrows - 5 sp
a hooded lantern. (FYI Chrys bought one here last time) 5 gp
2 flasks of oil - 2 sp
a shovel and sack - 3 gp
a healer’s kit - 5 gp
soap and a mirror - 5 gp
2 blankets - 1 gp
Regarding her clothing request, he finds her a good set of travelers clothes, (2 gp,) and has his helper, a young half elf woman in her late teens, sew up the arrow holes in Kess’s garments. Unfortunately, he does not have a leather dress; the closest thing would be a simple, but well-fitting forest-green knee length dress made of cotton with lace up ties that make it relatively form fitting, but still offering freedom of movement. (4 gp) The color matches Krackle’s robe
He also produces a set of slightly used, but perfectly good thieves’ tools wrapped up in a neat canvas bundle, for which he asks 25 gp.
Regarding Smith’s tools, after looking in a wooden box on the bottom of a corner shelf, he finds a set of those, as well. (20 gp)
"Now, will there be anything else I can help you acquire, fine adventurers?”
After a quick inventory with her party members and realizing the party wouldn't need a second lantern... though it might slightly disappoint him, Kess offers Donnal an apologetic smile before making to pay him and acquiring her goods.
And while she knew that the goods were cheaper, Kess wanted to, at the least, compensate the man for his time and services.
"Will 18 gold cover this? You can keep the change if you so wish, Donnal. For your excellent services and goods. I will not exaggerate when I say that your goods kept us all alive. And my compliments to your tailor! It's like that incident with the gnolls never happened!"
"Now that is a steal,"Chrys says appreciatively, handing over her coin as she almost reverently takes the tools and inspects them carefully. "Thank ye so much, good sir. By the way, do ya be happenin' to have any chalk here too? I'd like to take… hmm… 'bout three sticks with me, if ya got some. An' a vial or two, if ya got those. Oh! An' a set o' playin' cards… somethin' to help pass the time,"she grins. "Maybe a signal whistle, an a grapplin' hook too, come ta think o' it. ..." She looks at the group here for a moment. "An' two tents, or jus' one if ya got one big enough fer four people."
She waits, counting out her money carefully, before making her purchases.
Donnal smiles at Kess's compliments. "Thank you! It is my pleasure to be able to outfit adventurers such as yourselves, and it is quite a relief to know that my wares have indeed kept you alive and well. That's why I'm here! There's never a shortage of adventures to be had in The North, and so we'd better make sure that folks like you are well prepared for whatever dangers or inconveniences you may encounter out in the wilds."
"And gnolls you say...?! That must have been a harrowing engagement. I have never seen one myself, but I have heard the stories. Terrible, awful creatures, from what I've been told. Judging by those holes in your clothing, it looks like it might have been a rather bloody skirmish. I sincerely hope that you dished out worse to them."
To Chrys, he answers, "Why yes, I do have those additional items you seek.... let me see... chalk... over here...(1 cp ea), empty vials: I've got an entire bin of them over here. Take your pick. (1 gp ea) Playing cards... yes indeed! A fine activity around the campfire. Three Dragon Ante is, of course, my favorite card game, in fact, I have a Dragon-Ante deck right here, one dragon for the set (1 gp), but I also have regular card decks for 5 sp. I've played many rounds of "Hearts and Daggers" and "Kill the King" in my day!"
"And let me see... a whistle. I know I saw one of those last week... ah yes, over here! A mere 5 cp. Grappling hook... right over here by the rope and climbing tools. That'll be 2 dragons. (2 gp). And finally, two tents. They're not light, but they'll fit two people each, or three smaller folk, and they'll keep the rain off of you. Those will be 2 dragons each. (4 gp total)"
"There... I think that's everything on your list! What, may I askwill your next adventure take you? Wherever it is, I hope that there are no more gnolls involved!
"Oh, well, we're travellin' south from here, towards the High Forest,"Chrys answers readily enough with a smile. "Checkin' in on a friend, ya might say, aimin' for Noanar's Hold. Ya ever bin there? I've heard o' hobgoblins bein' a problem down thataways before, but not gnolls m'self."
Krackle would excitedly take his thieves tools and slide them into his robe. He would then take his nearly empty coin pouch and tie it to his hip. "Alright! let's go!" He would say as he bounces up and down.
“I have not ventured into The High Forest, and fortunately, I have avoided having any run ins with hobgoblins. My place is here, making sure that you are well prepared for such encounters, while I remain here, away from monsters and other evils.”
”I have heard enough tales, though, to know that The High Forest has its share of dangers and unknown perils. If that is your adventure, then go with luck and good fortune, and hopefully the supplies you have purchased today will help keep you safe.’
With that, Donnal bids you farewell and good luck, and thanks you for your business.
"A pleasure doin' business with ya again, an' I'll hope we see each other soon,"Chrys replies with a friendly wave, leading the group out the door. "So... we ready to set off for Noanar's hold? Or do we want ta rent a mule for the journey. I'll be honest, I can still carry this much, but my pack's gettin' full an' we still got a pair o' saddlebags on us," she says, tossing her head back at her ridiculously stuffed pack, now that two tents have been lashed to it. "Then again, a mule means feed, an' attracting maybe more trouble than it's worth from the local wildlife. What'chall think?"
"I've usually made my way through rough terrain without the coin for a mule, so I'm fine on foot. Happy to carry one of those saddlebags, as my pack's pretty light. So we're headed south to find the dryad, where the river enters the forest?"
(OOC: Dundragon didn't seem interested in the book about Shar, did he? Rereading my notes, he said he'd be interested in buying any books we come across in our travels.)
For everyone else's reference, here are the directions Dundragon gave us:
"And since you've agreed to run the errand, I will give you more complete directions. At Calling Horns, the Evermoor Way forks. Take the right trail and follow The Dessarin River for a day to the village of Noanar's Hold, which lies at the edge of the High Forest. From there, continue along the trail into the forest for three hours, until you reach The Old Man tree. Turn left off the path and walk for five hundred paces to a small clearing and look for a maple tree that's standing alone in a grove full of tall oaks. That's Phelannie's tree."
Chrys nods in thanks and hands over the saddlebags to Lumen.
(OOC: you could ask him, or we could just save it for when we get back with news about the nymph, even though it'll be in the distant future. Just take good notes, so you won't be sitting here wondering where you got these moonstones from, even though you took detailed notes about them, LOL. Removing the saddlebags from Chrys's inventory.)
If Dundragon is on the way out of town, Lumen’s fine with asking. Might also be good to confirm we are on the way to the dryad’s tree, but not necessary. Also I want us to get going!
(Oh! Got it. Happy to carry some of the communal stuff - it’s nice to have a strongbard! Also, Lumen didn’t buy anything because he can’t really think of anything he’d need for a trip to find a dryad, and he got used to having few possessions. But he’s happy to help carry the load.)

I love, OOC, Vesper dryly explaining basic things to Krackle. Lumen's annoyed by it but it's hilarious.
He's ready to get going!
"Thanks a bunch!" Krackle would reply as he dumps his coins into Colliums hands. "Let's go!" He would say excitedly.
"So, is our course decided, then? Do our business, and then make to continue on our travels?"
"Thanks," Chrys tells Callum with a heartfelt smile. "I hope we'll be seein' you again soon enough an' in good health. May Luck be a Lady tonight!"
