And so the battle begun. She was grateful that Lumen silenced them, still fearful of drawing Duskbringer's attention too son. But it was odd combating completely silent foes. Feeling a rush of satisfaction as Kess' arrow dropped one down, Nym briefly lost focus at the bag of wasps thrown at Silver, not having encountered such insects herself before, only kindly bees around Duaric's home. But seeing that Kess was helping her, the drow turned back to the Kobolds and tried to hit the same one that tried to hit her with a rock in the same way, hesitant to use up her magical reserves on such petty adversaries.
Lumen turns to Chrys. "Don't worry. These don't look at all similar to Krackle. We can fight them." (BA inspiration)

Looking up, you surmise that it would be an extremely difficult climb to try and reach the battlement from down here. With that observation, Lumen pulls out one of his daggers and whips it up towards one of the kobolds. Unfortunately, his throw is a little wide and the weapon slams harmlessly against the wall and comes tumbling back down towards you.
The kobold responds by whipping his sling and making a retaliatory attack towards Lumen. Attack: 9 Damage: 6
Nym casts her Sacred Flame cantrip and tries once again to target the kobold she injured with her spell last round. The radiant flame descends open the creature, but he proves once again to be a quick little bugger, and he manages to duck out of the way of the fire, escaping any damage.
Whether it's the urgency in her voice after being stung many times, or it's just that the wasps have no interest in listening to her please, she doesn't seem to be able to persuade them to leave her alone. Looking up at the kobold who threw the wasp bag down, she targets him with her Frostbite spell, but this one seems pretty resilient and manages to shrug off the effects.
Leaning over the wall, this time the kobold hurls down a small flask, aimed at Nym. Attack: 11
She tries to spin away, but the small bottle hits her and breaks upon her armor, causing the liquid inside to splash on her arms. To Nym's horror, she suddenly feels a burning pain that's similar to what she felt when she was hit by Duskbringer's breath in the forest and takes 5 acid damage.
The third surviving kobold whips his own sling in an arc above his head and throws a stone at Chrys. Attack: 16 Damage: 4 She answers by hucking her other Javelin at him, while answering Lumen.
"I don't think even our little Krackle would like these buggers!"
Unfortunately, her javelin slams against the battlement and misses, but at least it falls back to the ground.
Finally Vesper tosses a fire bolt from her hands at that kobold. Attack: 10 Damage: 3
Round 3
As Kess continues to bat away the wasps, they finally seem to grow tired of Silver, and they swarm begins to dissipate into the breeze as they fly off. Gasping in utter shock at Nym who has been splashed by the acid and is experiencing searing pain on her forearms and left shoulder, the elven fighter unslings her longbow and tries to retaliate at the inventive, but annoying little kobold. Waiting patiently for the right shot, she takes careful aim and the releases the string.
The arrow sails as true as can be and sticks the kobold right between the eyes, killing it instantly. (Critical hit!) It slumps behind the wall as it falls without a sound.
(If the kobolds are within 30ft of us then this post. If not, then I'll come up with something else.)
As the swarm dissipates and flies away, Silver looks down at her helper. "Thank you, Kessdara."She corrects herself. "Kess."
She flinches a little at the efficiency with which Kess has dispatched two kobolds. To find it so easy to kill... You're one to talk She thinks to herself, and says nothing more.
Instead she moves her hands as if she is creating a ball out of the air. Whatever she is doing is almost invisible, but tiny flecks of dust which dance and swirl between her hands show that some kind of magic is indeed being done here. She then pushes outwards, and the almost invisible ball of swirling air is launched upwards towards the kobolds.
Gust: STR save DC 13 to resist being pushed 5ft backwards (with the hope that it will push one off the back of the wall, although she doesn't know how thick the wall is).
Silver’s blast hits one of the kobolds with full force, driving it backwards. It actually tumbles over the edge of the back of the walkway, as that section is not connected to the outside of the keep.
He falls about ten feet down, but somehow, manages to catch itself on one of the branches inside the thick greenery of the trees that grow all around the outside of the large wooden building. The kobold now dangles from the branch about 15 feet above the ground.
Nym grimaced in annoyance as her target still avoided her holy fire, these kobolds were more nimble than she anticipated. Glancing over to see how Kess was faring in getting the wasps away from Silver, the drow looked back up to see too late an object being thrown at her, her arms instinctively going up to try to protect herself, turning slightly to the right as she did so. She heard a crash and didn't quite understand what it was that they threw until she felt the liquid burning through her already tattered clothing, seeping through the gaps in her scale mail and feeling all too painfully familiar. "AHNG-!!"A shrill cry of pain began in her throat, her expression twisted in pain before the cleric clenched her teeth together, the corners of her eyes wet as she tried to silence herself. Her only solace was that none of the acid seemed to have gotten onto her blade. Though the added retribution of the kobold that had did this to her immediately dying from one of Kess' arrows to its head was a nice bonus. "Th-Thank you."
Seeing the impressive display of elemental magic on Silver's part, Nym tried to take advantage of the opportunity she had granted and shakily took aim with her left hand, not able to raise it completely due to the pain in her shoulder and her right gripping her longsword tightly. Even now she knew that it was better to keep her magical reserves as she launched another Sacred Flame towards the kobold suspended above the ground.
4 radiant damage if hanging kobold fails its DC 13DEX save.
Once again, the kobold reinforces the fact that they are indeed nimble little buggers. Even hanging by the tree branch in the greenery below the the walkway, (and with Disadvantage on his DEX save), the small reptilian creature manages to wriggle enough and swing out of the way, so as to avoid being affected by the radiant flames of Nym's spell. Perhaps her somatic gestures were a bit off, having been affected by the burning pain of her injury.
Lumen's turn. One hanging and one still up on the wall.
Sorry… I forgot about the inspiration. We can save it for next time. Also, Fivin tells you that the only way to access the fortified walkway is from inside the keep, via the guard towers. Right now, the kobold is hanging 15 feet above you.
As Lumen looks for any possible way to reach the hanging kobold from here, he sees that it would require an expert attempt at climbing up the side of the very steep, and in some places, overhanging rock that the keep is built upon.
Meanwhile, Chrys recovers her javelin, and in the challenge try and take out the last kobold that's up on the wall, she tracks the little reptile with her eye, then hurls the weapon with a loud, very unladylike grunt. The missile flies up with surprising speed and hits the kobold right in the left breast. With a silent gasp, in part because Chrys punctured his lung, and also because of Lumen's silence spell, the kobold falls forward with a expression of shock and tumbles over the wall, falling the 30 feet, and landing with a soft thud right next to Chrys.
Placing one of her boots on the dead kobold's chest, she yanks her weapon out of its body and says to it, "Thanks for bringing me back my javelin. Didn't know that kobolds were so generous!"
From her vantage point, ducking behind one of the rocks a few feet away, Vesper sees the kobold that's hanging in the tree begin to climb back up through the branches. Conjuring another fire bolt from her hand, she launches it right at the creature. It hits the kobold in the back of the head, frying its brain and causing it to tumble and bounce a few feet through the tree branches before falling the rest of the way to the ground.
All four kobolds are now dead, two of which lay at your feet.
Fivin says, "I do not recall ever seeing those kinds of creatures here before. It's usually orcs that we have a problem with."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"There were orcs that made their way up here? Or do you mean after the dragon arrived?"Lumen says, catching his breath. He searches the kobolds' remains for anything of note.
Searching the 2 kobolds, you find that each one carries a few silver coins in its pouch: 25 sp total. In addition, they both have an embroidered light green silk handkerchief stuffed into a pocket. Fivin recognizes these as belonging to his people, and asserts that they have obviously been stolen from inside the keep.
Once the last of the Kobolds were felled, Nym wanted to relax and even sit down but her posture didn't relax. The acid had finished doing the worst of its damage, just bubbling at the dissolved edges of her clothing and armor, her cloak looking worse for wear than ever now. Trying to look around, she winced at the glare from the sun before closing her eyes and trying to focus on hearing and feeling whether or not anything else might be coming. The drow did her best to tune out the sounds and shifting of her own companions.
Perception: 21
Assuming that she doesn't hear or feel anything, Nym opens her eyes and looks to where the kobolds had been perched before glancing to Fivin. "I'm going to go ahead and cast Locate Object now if you think we're close enough."Going through the beginnings of the spell if she isn't stopped, holding the pendant that Lia had given them that matched her children's.
Lumen hands over the money and handkerchief to Fivin. He drags the bodies out of sight. He offers to heal Nym, if she needs it, and otherwise will lead the group to a sheltered place while Nym casts her spell, to stay out of sight.
Silver joins Lumen in moving the bodies. "Please, allow me." She lifts a kobold onto each shoulder, and will deposit them where Lumen directs.
(I haven't done the maths but she counts as Large for carrying, so I assume she can carry two little kobolds.)
"We must be getting closer to the dragon. These little ones made reference to their Mighty Winged Master. We should be especially cautious from here on."
"You all despatched these kobolds very easily. Do you have much experience with fighting and... killing?"
Kess keeps watch with her bow at the ready while you dispose of the kobold bodies, dumping them behind one of the larger rocks in the terrain about 40 feet away from the entrance to the keep.
Answering Silver, she says, "Yes, the truth is that we have many battles during the time we have been together, and thankfully we have prevailed in each one. We seem to have developed a good element of teamwork and we watch each others's backs. And yes, the truth is that some of us are quite adept at killing. I was trained to fight, as was Chrys here, and growing up in the North, I learned long ago that there are many dangers in the world. Raising blades is not always my first choice, but when it's kill or be killed, I'd rather be the one doing the killing. I won't say that I particularly enjoy it... when it's called for, I try to focus on being precise with my own skills... as if I were trying to perfect the moves of a dance. If that makes any sense."
After you dispatch with the kobold bodies and return the silver and handkerchiefs to Fivin, you move back up to entrance and face the large, ornately carved wooden doors that lead into the keep.
Nym casts her Locate Object spell, and immediately gets a sense that the other pendant that would match the one that Lia gave to you lies straight ahead.
Nym couldn't help but smile even with her eyes closed as she concentrated on the spell as she overheard Kess' answer to Silver's question, particularly the bit about her fighting being like a dance. Perhaps one day in the future she'd be able to persuade the other elf to engage with her a Blade Dance under the moonlight.
"I was trained to kill from a young age like most of my people. But when my clan and I found Eilistraee's light I saw that there was a better path. A path of harmony and acceptance. But to always repay violence with swifter violence in return."
Opening her lilac eyes to the well made door to the keep she murmured to her companions. "The other pendant is directly ahead. Ready yourselves." She herself took the opportunity to grant herself a Vigilant Blessing before meeting the eyes of her companions, waiting for their signal that they were ready before hesitantly reaching out towards the door and then whispering in concern, "Do you think the kobolds might have done anything to the door? Like a trap?"
Silver's eyes open wider at Nym's statement. "A whole people taught to kill? Your lands must have been very dangerous.
My people teach just the opposite, never to kill. All of nature has its place. We only bring ourselves to violence when the delicate balance is threatened, or in self-defence, and even then with great reluctance. We try to have respect for all peoples, but I admit I am glad that your clan found a new way.
I have very limited experience with kobolds, and confess I don't know what they might be capable of. Are any of you adept at checking for such traps?"
And so the battle begun. She was grateful that Lumen silenced them, still fearful of drawing Duskbringer's attention too son. But it was odd combating completely silent foes.
