Lucky Perception check - 21
With a deftness to his movement the group hasn’t seen from him before, Lucky fades into the darkness and creeps up under the flying insects. Without being noticed he gets a good look at the direction and can see others in the distance. He can’t see where their journey will end, but feels confident he knows at least the first good portion of the journey without being in direct area of the creatures. The other thing he spotted, was that on the trek, will involve cross a river of lava. But you have a couple hours to think about that.
The group heads off and follows the path laid out by Lucky. Hopping on the stone ground while navigating around the small pools of lava.
After the buzzing noise subsided after the flying insects have flown away into the darkness. You begin to hear chirping up ahead. Jax’s foot steps forwards and the ground gives way, squishy under his foot but not wet. (Think like walking on a waterbed). The stone ground has transitioned to this membranous floor. In the open field ahead you notice quick flashes of something small and quick up ahead. Another swarm of some type of creature, locust like.
Jax would dim his lens to the point of nearly providing no light at all as Squall suggests turning it off. As the texture of the floor changes under the warforgeds metal foot.. he would pause. "Interesting.. I wonder if this means that we are entering the hive." Jax would say to the others. The warforged would then quickly turn and point his weapon towards the quick moving creatures in the distance. "I fear we may have been detected" He would say as he cocks back the hammer on the large faintly glowing revolver.
Ah great, says Lucky, quietly drawing his rapier and looking around nervously. I bet there's a lot of these things. Like, a lot a lot. Like a whole lot of nasty flying insect things, just waiting to sup on that sweet Lucky nectar. Tell me we're not going to be fighting through all of them, Jax. Just tell me that, buddy. Even if it's not true.
"I am not well equipped for taking out multiple enemies. I am better suited for support and assaulting single targets from a distance." Jax would reply to lucky while still remaining focused on the approaching swarm. "our odds of surviving an assault against this entire hive is lower than if we had attempted to slaughter the entire tribe of lizardfolk" The warforged would add as he remains still like a statue... focused on only the swarm. He would then turn his head and focus his lens on the shifter. "We are not going to be fighting through ALL of them....." He would state before looking back at the enemy.
(OOC Are they coming for us and have they detected us? How far away are they? I am REALLY not going to be much help damaging multiple enemies but I have grease and fairy fire which would both maybe be useful against multiple enemies... )
(By the way it’s group initiative to make it easier in pbp - also swarms in my game are the culmulative stats of the creature that makes them. Think of each hit like you’re taking a chunk of the numbers out. As their total hp lowers, their AC will increase and their damage output will decrease to reflect the more spare numbers.)

Swarm of Giant locusts
Party
As the party makes their way onto the field, their presence new is immediately noted by the local pests and begin to flock to and harass the party. The party begins to sway at and flail away from the insects as they become stuck in hair and nibbling through clothes and skin.

each party member takes 4 points of slicing damage as the creatures begin to chew on their skin.

Salqwyn "Squall" d'Lyrandar / Half-elf Sorcerer
"Everyone back from me about ten feet!" She moves to the center of the swarm and holds her arms wide. The mark on her arm begins to glow faintly and shift on her skin. Once everyone is clear she slams her hands together. A crash of thunder explodes where the sound of a clap should be.
(OOC I am moving to swarm center and holding Thunderclap until the others are more than 5' from me.)
DC 14 Con save or any creature within 5' takes 4 thunder damage.
As the swarm rushed towards the group, the runes running along the barrel of the revolver would flash bright red as a small fountain of flame burst from the tip of the weapon. When Jax squeezed the trigger, a bolt of pure energy would tear through the darkness of the hive and into the swarm of enemies..

Lucky sneaks back to give the all clear. Thataway.
Tara nods, eyes beginning to glow faintly blue and gold. "Shall we, then?"

Squall follows again trying to stay to the middle of the group.

“I can deal damage to groups. But they have to be close for me to do so. You can help keep any bigger ones off of me.”
So, we draw them to you? Good to know. Lucky looks uncertain, but pushes forwards, trying to be silent but ready for battle.

"Lets say we pick off as many as we can at a distance and then I can clean up groups that get close. How far out could you start to hit them?"

Lucky moves away from Squall, draws his rapier, and starts slashing wildly at the nasty little bugs:
Attack: 18 Damage: 9
(Just curious if your swarm rules will take into account AoE effects?)
