Jax would look the half-orc up and down. "I believe we are close to reaching an agreement." The warforged would say as AJ steps a little bit closer behind the bandit leader. "The passengers and crew aboard this ship have been through a great deal of stress and I would hate to have them give up what little they posses." Jax would add before pausing. "How about instead I provide you with another tool that may help you in your future business endeavors. I could offer you a cannon, a keg of gunpowder, and five cannon balls in addition to the supplies I offered before." Jax would pause again for a moment and allow the half orc to think it over. "Think of it as an investment in your groups future. With more fire power you will be able to acquire much larger... business opportunities? Going forward." He would add with a wink of the red light in his lens.
(Given that William is taken his focus to steering the ship and told the group to take care of it, Jax could easily just take 500 gold or worth of equipment from the ship or others)
The half Orc smiles and lets out a bellowing chuckle. His mutton chops flapping with each laugh. “You got yourself a deal, mate.”
Jax would show no emotion as the negotiation seemed to run its course. AJ however would immediately seem to relax as his shoulders drop and he laid down on the floor. His metalic tail swaying lazily across the floor... leaving small scratches behind.
Common knowledge your character would know of Sharn if you don’t already:
Sharn is the largest city in Khorvaire, with a permanent population of approximately 210,000 people. Humans make up about a third of that number, and dwarves are a sixth of it; the rest is a blend of every race found across Khorvaire. Halflings, elves, and gnomes have a significant presence in the city, but even kalashtar and changelings have communities in Sharn. Beyond the permanent population, tens of thousands of people pass through Sharn every day. Refugees from the war still find their way to Sharn, along with tourists, spies, merchants, and people hoping to find their fortune in the grandest city in Eberron. Sharn stands above the Dagger River. It’s an important port for anyone dealing with Aerenal, Xen’drik, or Sarlona. Mountains line the shores of the Dagger, and Sharn can’t spread out... so instead it’s grown ever upward. Sharn is broken into five “quarters”: Central Plateau, Dura, Menthis Plateau, Northedge, and Tavick’s Landing. Each of these quarters is a hub of massive core towers. A web of bridges and platforms connects these vast spires, and a host of smaller turrets sprout from the edges of the core towers. The district of Skyway floats above the highest towers, while the tunnels of the Cogs stretch out below the lower city. Sharn is a vertical city, and height is a simple indicator of status and wealth. Each quarter is roughly divided into three levels, and the combination of quarter and level defines a ward. Thus, wards include Lower Dura, Upper Central, and Middle Menthis. This distinction gives a general sense of the tone of a ward. • Upper wards are home to the wealthy and powerful. Here you’ll find the finest goods and the most expensive services. The typical quality of meals and inns is wealthy or aristocratic, and rough adventurers may be treated with suspicion. Violence is rare; the City Watch is active in these areas, and if they’re corrupt, they’re at least taking bribes from people richer than you. • Middle wards are home to the middle classes. Here you’ll find bustling markets and taverns, along with a wide range of entertainment and housing. Services range from modest to comfortable, with a few wealthy-grade options tucked away. The City Watch has a presence, but not as strong as in the upper districts. • Lower wards house the hard-working laborers, but they’re also home to the destitute and the desperate... refugees who’ve lost everything in the war, orphans and urchins who never had anything to begin with. Modest services can be found, but overall the lower districts are squalid and poor; a visitor in fine clothes might attract unwanted attention. The City
The days journey goes rather uneventful, surprisingly the roving horde of bandits keep their end of the bargain while not being too crass. William agrees to the terms and they make their arrangements, before the bandits begin to head out to the city for a day of debauchery.
Just at midday you see your destination. A colossal city set on a Clifftop with sharp and pointed towers reaching out into the sky. The sun shines and bounces of the towers with a blue reflection, making the air waves dance in the heat.
William looks to the group. It’s the later afternoon/evening of the day. Sun is still high in the sky but it’s dark where you stand. “Normally we don’t find ourselves docking in the lower wards, easier to stay out of the slums when you fly in. I think I’ll send my men to escort the passengers that would feel better with some protection while I stay here and figure out how to get this thing flying again. I would like to thank you all for everything you did. I don’t think we would’ve made it here as easy as we did without you. I know James would thank you too. Willams says mournfully, not having the same anger as before. “I owe you so much, what can I give you in return?”
Moxely kneels down in front of William, "You owe me nothing. You graciously gave me a home for several months and I will be eternally grateful for that. If you ever need anything in return all you have to do is ask and depending on where my travels take me now, whenever I am back in Sharn I will come check in on you to see how you are doing. My eternal gratitude for your friendship. And when I ultimately find out who is responsible for your brothers death, trust in me that they will breathe no more."
You can hire us,says Lucky bluntly. You can hire us to find out who killed your brother and tried to destroy your ship. It makes it more official if we can say we're investigating on your behalf. Opens some doors, I reckon. You don't need to pay us - we're gonna do it anyway. But having a letter or something from you would be good. Maybe. I'm kind of new to all this, but I'm ready to get started. Some bastard tried to kill me and I want to know who.
Tara's eyes widen with wonder at the sight of the City of Towers. "Incredible," she murmurs to herself. "I suppose, in their own way, the short lived races can create wonders to approach those of dragons and couatl."
At William's question, Tara tilts her head. "I am here for knowledge, not materials." She glances at Lucky. "History does indeed show that authority can provide opportunities to improve the expediency of investigation. However, if one of the Houses is involved, caution would be prudent. The Houses are exceedingly powerful, and can bring a great deal of that power to bear against their enemies, including financial leverage to bring in sovereign powers. The most drastic example of this, of course, is the War of the Mark." Tara rolls her eyes at the term. "An ill-advised attempt to wipe aberrant marks from the population of Khorvaire that ended in the destruction of this very city. I doubt anything so dramatic would occur should they discover our investigation, but it is a good example of the kind of thing they are capable of, even more so now, as in the intervening thousand years, they have further solidified their financial control over the economy. So we should keep our investigation from being too blatant."
Jax would listen to his companions and after Tara finishes her statement, The warforged would respond. "I am in search of knowledge and materials." The warforged would reply plainly. "I do not require compensation, but It would be foolish not to accept if offered" He would add as he opens his leather jacked and begins to examine a small notebook before sliding it back away. "Coin, dragon shards, rare crafting materials, warforged components, and information on the processes needed to repair and create warforged would be most helpful." He would say in his smooth metallic voice as AJ lays on the ground next to him rolling around and trying to lick something strange that he appears to have stepped in.
"I'm willing to help however is needed." Saralyssa says as the others start discussing. "For payment, I think you will need what you have to get this ship up and airworthy again." She tells the ship master when asked.
William is visibly touched by the kind words and generosity of the group. He pats Moxely on the shoulder as he kneels. “Maybe next time I’ll show you how to make a proper dwarven drink.” With a chuckle. And a “bro pat hug”
William gives a solemn nod to Virnen
he listens to Tara and Jax, slightly amused at the warforged man wording. Yes, having some sort of resources could be helpful. He slides a small wooden chest towards Jax. “Five hundred should be enough to get ya started. You don’t need to remind me how viscous these houses can be. Plenty of run ins with them before we got clearance for this ship.
Witha wink “Saralyssa you and everyone else will always be welcomed aboard once we get up and flying again. Honored guests on the Doub.... Flying Drackon!”
”Lucky you bring up a good point.” He disappears into the ship for a couple of minutes before coming out with a scroll with a wax seal. The seal is a loose resemblance to the runes used to make the ship fly.
”Goodbye for now, my friends.”
With that the group turns to face the towering city. What would you like to do?
Tara looks thoughtful as she consults her notes. "The area most likely to contain scions of the Houses is Dragon Towers. However, I have little experience with this type of investigation. How would we begin going about this? And will we be launching into the investigation immediately, or waiting until tomorrow? If the latter, I have an appointment with a sphinx at Morgrave University to arrange."

Damn, this place is big. I mean, of course it's big, I'm not some country.... I... Yeah, I read about it and heard stories, I guess I just didn't expect it to be so... big. What? He turns to look at Tara. Oh, I... guess we don't need to rush to that extent. We're not hot on the trail, exactly. I... why are you meeting a sphinx?
"Who is your meeting with?" Saralyssa asks Tara at the mention of the university. "I should probably check back in at the University before much else, so could help get your meeting set up..."
"Thank you William" Jax would say with a nod as AJ moves forward and jumps up on William and attempts to lick his face. for a moment. The warforged would then quickly put his box into his pack and once everyone is ready he would turn towards them. "So what is our next move?"
