Brozznan will turn to the others and put a finger to his lips to indicate to be quiet. He will then motion that something is down the way. Brozznan will begin backing away from the area to regroup with the others and remove both his daggers. "I assume we can rest here for a moment or we can get to work. If they knew we were here, they'd be on us already."
Brozznan will remain near the back of the group and try to keep a lookout for anything moving up ahead. He isn't necessarily being quiet, but he's not being loud.
The party continues, until they reach a stone door. On each side is a carved drop with what seems to be a skull in front of it. The door does not budge but does seem to have a key hole in the form of a square indent between the door.
Brozznan will move to the front after seeing the door is unable to be forced open. He throws open his coat and pulls a setup lock picks out of an inner pocket. The set is in a brown leather book style case filled with bronze picks. "Let me give this a shot." Brozznan looks into the lock the best he can and retrieves a pick, attempting to pick the lock open.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylvester steps forward while pulling out his thieves tools stating “Looks like I’m up.” Sylvester will first investigate for traps, if the door is trap he will try to disarm it, then he will try to pick the lock to try and open the door.
The door lacks a lock. It seems the indent in the door needs a weight of sorts to open the door.
(Since Nicola was doing religion checks for a while, I'll put this up for her.)
@ Nicola
The carvings on the door resembles the motif of a religion, the Blood of Vol. Not on good terms with the sovereigns as they view them as cruel gods. As with their use of necromancy for menial & military labor. They don't seek to embrace death but rather defeat it, a belief that divinity is tied into the blood and soul of one.
@ Kastor
(Detect magic is still active)
As you come near the door, you can see above you a flow of magic. Through the dirt, you can see the flow of magic go above the door and past it. It somewhat seems like roots spreading out.
"Oh...I know them," Nicola says with an eye roll. "Blood of Vol. They think very highly of themselves. One of their people came through my old church spouting about how the gods aren't real, that belief in the soul is a lie, calling us mindless sheep. Little gratitude or humility for the eternal soul either. They'll disturb hallowed ground and the peace of death just for a crew of undead workers to plow a field, so I've heard. It's horrible. Wonder what they want here."
Investigating the indent in the door, she mutters, "I'm sure they love to feel superior to us God-fearing folk with their little puzzles too...here, is there a rock or something on the ground that we can place on this little spot by the door?" Nicola looks on the ground for anything to serve as a makeshift weight.
Sylvester is going to try to pick up one of the skulls from the side of the doors, if it moves he is going to stick it in the key indent. If it does not move he will then take one of his daggers and cut his hand, put it in the indent and let some of his blood flow in to it.
The skull is too large to fit into the indent, the indent is now bloody, but the stone door still stays closed. As the party tries to find a way through, they can hear something start to come closer.
@ Kastor
The school of magic is Necromancy. It looks to be a collection of roots draining something from above, connecting together as it comes further down. Once its almost near the ceiling, it heads past the door above you.
Kastor points out what he sees to the rest of the group, although he realised they probably can't see any of what he's pointing out. (Are these roots exposed in the ceiling? What is the ceiling made from?)
Brozznan is going to look up as Kastor points toward the ceiling. Can Brozznan tell what is up there with his dark vision? "Nicola, your light. Point it up this way."
(They look like tree roots but they're magic. You don't actually see any actual tree roots above you. And above you is dirt until you come closer to the stone door then it is replaced with stone. You can only see the roots because the dirt isn't compact enough to be considered a solid yet. But you do lose sight of it once it gets past 10 feet above you.)
The creature comes closer, you all can start to hear it creaking towards you all.

"I'm not sure what to make of it, but it's definitely there."

RavenloftAnnihilationMostly small rocks lie about near the stone door. Even with all of them put in, it might not be enough and may risk jamming the door.
@ Kastor, Arcana check to determine the school, how you roll determine how much you know about it.
