This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Your blast nearly knocks the ghoul to the ground, but it shruggs off the pain. Catherine, seeing the weakend state of her ememy rushes in, great axe high, and bares down on it.
Attack: 19 damage: 9
(These might not be the numbers she had, but since the character was removed from the campaign I'm going to assume she had a strength of at least 14)
Her axe cleaves through the ghoul, sending the creatures dark blood splattering around the immediate area.
As of now combat appears to have ended with no more creatures rushing out of the room, what do you all do?
She'll nod in agreement and rush forward to stand her axe up. Once placed she'll poke her head into the dark room cautiously. After a quick moment she announces, "there is no more sign evil creatures. The room looks to be almost the same size as this. There are heavily destroyed crates to the right, against the wall, and another barred passage off the left wall..." She pauses as she scans the rest of the group before asking, "what happened to Sieghart?"

Sieghart returns with the green gemstone in hand. The party needed to know what he had found.
‘’I think I found the source of the green light we’ve been following.’’ He presents the emerald to his companions. ‘’It looked like it was powering some sort of coffin filled with a green liquid. There are more of them. I don’t know much about magic. What do you make of this?’’
Thinking back to the days you spent with the thief, learning rune-craft in their hudden cellar beneath Kirsk, you remember seeing an odd contraption on their work bench. A cube of metal, 1 foot on all sides, with tubing connecting it to another strange device. Resting on top of the cube, in a small craddle of three brass prongs, was an emerald gem, much the same size (about the size of a bean). When the gem was on the cube it glowed brilliantly and gave off a localized misty aura.
From what you recall this gem acts as a siphon, pulling in the arcane energy from its surroundings. The greater the luminescent mist, the more power it drew. The device it was placed on funneled that power through some tubing to "energize" a recieving device or object, making a mundane item magic. Almost as if this method bypassed the years it would take an arcanists to normally learn the art of enchantment.
You don't recall a coffin with green liquid or the use of a corpse while in the company of your teacher, but you remember it powering a palmed sized disc shaped object. When fully charged the rim would glow a deep blue. When you inquired what it was for, the thief placed the disc in their inner pocket and tapped their chest, rendering them invisible. This allowed them to be the successful thief they were.
So if this gem, which is of a similar size, shape, and clarity, was sitting on a similar device, then you know that Orbid is using it to pump magic into these coffins without him needing to expend the energy or time to do it himself. And given the atmosphere of everything you feel nearly certain that he's using this device to essentually grow his "subjects", as he called them. There is still a green glowing mist coming from where Sieghart came from, so there is definitively more of them.
(Sorry about the crap info from earlier. I reread it and totally agreed with you. Not sure why I thought that was good enough to post. Hopefully this is better.)
(That’s okay, I think DMing is hard to gauge the right amount of success/failure on dice sometimes)
Arlo looks up at Sieg. “Coffins, eh... more like incubators. Sounds like Orbid’s got a monster farm here. You see anymore of these crystals, snag ‘em. And lets destroy those coffins.”
With another whack the gem falls from the ceiling and clatters to the ground. Picking it up you see that it is different is purple in color, in the shape of a half-dome, and is about palm size. The one in Sieghart's hand is green, and roughly the shape of a bean.
From behind you all, in the room where the ghouls were held, you hear the familiar voice of Orbid.
"I cannot let you destroy my work. Too many years of effort have been spent rebuilding that town and growing my subjects."

Catherine's mouth stretches to a wide grin and says, "I thought you'd never ask."
Orbid sees Sieghart start to turn for the room, whips a hand to his robes as if he's reaching something, and begins mumbling what is probably an incantation.

Arlo, I believe you are the only one who is proficient in arcana, so why don't you make the roll to see if you recall anything.

(Does the gemstone in the ceiling look anything like the one Siegfried grabbed from the other room?)

Lucas pockets the gem for later inspection.
"Arlo and Siegfried, you should destroy those coffins or we might have some more friendly ghouls to deal with".
Lucas turns toward Catherine and points his axe toward Orbid's voice, "Catherine, want to take this evil out once and for all?"
Arlo goes to start chopping

Sieghart nods and follows Arlo in the side room with the coffins. He will attempt to remove the other two gems from their sockets.
