Kale silently agrees with Merric on the matter of splitting the party, and gives him a thumbs-up for the odd smile. He follows along behind the group, doing his best to stay alert in the terrible weather. Goat jangles along behind him, soaked, but still glowing as Kale refreshed his light spell. "To knowledge," he says to the others, wiping some rain from his face before pulling his hood up high. He looks up and down at the ever-shifting streets, trying to determine if the group is traveling in somewhat of the proper direction.
(Advantage from a well lit goat helping to cancel out disadvantage on sight perception).
As you move through the streets, most of you soaked to the skin within a single breath of stepping outside, you, surprisingly, find the short flight of stairs Cicero told you to look for in a matter of moments. Along one side of the street a short stairway leads down to a fairly unremarkable doorway. You are quite certain you have never seen this stairway or door before. Water spills down the stairs only to be sent down a deep crack along one side of the landing below.
the simple door is unguarded, once open a staircase leads down into a vast room with stone walls and bookcases stretching into the infinite distance in every direction.
The library is a strange place. Endless shelves intersect at yet more shelves, and you’re very unlikely to find anything you need in a hurry, as all the items are hopelessly disorganised.
Merric peers around, ALL around, and takes a good sniff and a good listen. "I've never seen so many tomes in one place...or ever, I be thinkin'." He moves in a few more feet, enough to let the rest of them fully into the library. Without turning around, he addresses Al-Ashari.

"Al-Ashari, I'm thinkin' yer ability tuh detect thought might be good here but I'm not knowin' the risks tuh ye. Does it be safe?" Merric asks, his eyes never stopping their scanning.
(please disregard this if Merric does not know about this ability/spell. I think she's mentioned it but I could easily be wrong :).
Whitegaze will look around for a bell or something to get peoples attention, failing that, he'll give his best yell, "Ho, the Library, we come looking for knowledge!"

(If I remember correctly, Al-Ashari used that ability at least once in Asylum, so Merric is aware about it)
"It might be needed, true," Al-Ashari spoke telepathically as naturally as out loud (more, actually), "but let me look around first - the place is to big for such spell."And this is what sh did - looked around, keeping close to the exit:

(Dice roller remains to be an extremists - everything is either 1 or 20) But I believe "Mind Over Body" see invisibility (You can see any invisible creature within 60 ft. of you that is not behind total cover) is still active (it was supposed to last for 6 hours). So if there is some invisible danger she must be able to see it.)
If there is nothing visible or invisible around and nobody came to Whitegaze's summon, then Al-Ashari will use Detect Thoughts to check if any intelligence is present.
Kale pulls out his bandore and strums a tune as he idly begins to walk down the staircase and peruse the shelves. He passes Whitegaze, shaking his head at the man's eagerness, and begins to hum quietly.
"If librarians were honest, they wouldn't smile, or act welcoming. They would say, You need to be careful. Here be monsters. They would say, These rooms house heathens and heretics, murderers and maniacs, the deluded, desperate, and dissolute. They would say, These books contain knowledge of death, desire, and decay, Betrayal, blood, and more blood; Each is a Pandora's box, so why would you want to open one. They would post danger signs warning that contact might result in mood swings, Severe changes in vision, and mind-altering effects. If librarians were honest, they would say, No one spends time here without being changed. Maybe you should go home. While you still can."
No one came at Whitegaze's yell. Al-ashari also does not detect anything with detect thoughts, nor does she see anything that would be invisible.
Merric just sees rows and rows of books, as does Kale.
Lia moves with Kale, looking through the books along the shelves.

Kale and Lia find...
Piles of scrolls etched with mad designs for incomprehensible artefacts roll off a shelf and into your path. Perhaps there is something you can learn here? Something you can make? You have stumbled across at least one usable schematic, describing the process and cost for constructing one magical item of your choice, using the guidelines set out in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.
(Kale you can pick the item, and it has to be Legendary or lower, no artifacts. Not sure how likely it will come into play, as constructing a magical item takes time, but maybe you could sell the designs or something.)
Since I doubt anyone (or even everyone cumulatively) has the time of 1-50 weeks to craft, let alone the money, tool proficiencies, and Arcana skill that would be necessary to even make the attempt, let's just call it the schematics for a Rod of Lordly Might.
"Hmm. Now this is interesting," Kale says as Lia shows him the schematic. "I don't think it's very useful to us. But it might fetch a nice price at the auction house. Let's take it with us," he says to Lia with a slight grin.
Al-Ashari frowned. "We were supposed to "see for ourselves" what the librarians are. Yet I, personally, do not see anything but books. Well, let's start with something simple."
She ordered her Unseen Servant to pick up a book near by and take it out of the library. Just to see what would happen.
Giving Lia a surreptitious wink, Kale walks up to Whitegaze, pacing around him. "So... did your calling bring any attention to yourself, my friend? I hardly noticed, spending all that time with the most beautiful Lia in the stacks, as I was."
As he talks, he gesticulates with his hands to emphasize his words, as usual. Not so usual is when he paces around Whitegaze's back, and uses those motions to try to subtly slip the schematics into Whitegaze's pack without the other man noticing.

Nothing seems to happen as the book is removed from the library.
That was interesting. Al-Ashari went outside as well to make sure her eyes did not deceive her. Servant was ordered to make a few steps farther from the library.

Merric quells the desire to turn around, feeling the disaster in the motion. He does let the Wicked Blade appear in his hand, while he tries to use his blindsense to...gauge...the presence.
