Al-Ashari gave Whitegaze a polite smile, acknowledging the apology and her acceptance of it, but then remembered that they were still missing one piece of information (among the sea of another): "Cicero, can you explain how exactly Infinite Stairs allowed citizens navigate the City?"
"Well it use to be as simple as knowing where on the stairs to get on and off." He answers. "With entrances all over the city, the stairs allowed for fast and reliable access to the entire city. Then the creature came, and most who went in never returned."
"This is the second time you've mentioned this creature prowling the stairs. Could you describe it in more detail to us?" Kale asks idly. "I have to wonder... if we were able to defeat that creature somehow, if it would make it safer for us to travel around this place of absolutely no absolutes. And whether it would garner us some goodwill among the local non-maddened population."

Merric watched from a corner as his companions came downstairs, sipping at a cup of tea, the remains of hearty breakfast before him. As each came down, he raised his cup in a little salute, giving each the same telepathic greeting, "Good morning, such as it in this dreary place." He'd come to decision upon waking. These were his companions and he would trust them until they proved otherwise. Revealing his ability to to speak mind-to-mind was his way of showing that trust. When Al-Ashari comes down he asks, "Did you sleep well?"
Merric listened as Kale played the piano and sang his song, but most of the assassin's attention was back on the book they'd procured prior to his arrival. He'd spent time last night reading it and more again this morning. He was certain there was a clue, more than one likely, to their present situation.

"Perfectly well, thank you dear,"for Al-Ashari telepatic communication was something way more normal than annoying need to constantly articulate every thought. "Did you find any meaning in the book? I am beginning to thing it's either a bad omen, meaning "no matter what you do - you die" or someone truly sick was researching creative ways to kill others."

"Describe it!" The innkeep says with a exasperated noise. "No, I cannot describe it, as no one who has ever seen it has lived. There are a few fortunate ones that heard it coming, but got out of the stairs before it could reach them."

You are sure it has some value, but are not able to figure out what that might be at this point. You think there might be a key to it though, something that makes it all make sense.
Whitegaze will rise and head out the door, "Seems its time to get moving, perhaps we should head to the asylum first while we're fresh rather than fighting whatever is in the stairs first."

Standing, Merric nods his agreement, adjusting his goggles firmly in place. "I'm agreein' with the warrior. Let's be headin' the crazy place, though I'm shudderin' at what this'n crazy place is considrin crazy enough to lock away. I'll take point." He speaks firmly, loosening his weapons as he heads to the door. As his passes, Cicero, he nods and asks, "How we goin' to be findin' the place? Any suggestion on directions?"
As he catches Kale's eyes, he asks in Thieves Cant, "Why does the asylum worry you so? And do you know how to find it?"
Stopping at the open door, Merric listens closely and looks around even more closely before heading in the indicated direction.

Merric:
Tried to murder one of the Asylum nurses, after swindling her to pay for our book with quite literally pieces of her brain. Her boss broke my spell, though, and might have sussed me out. This could potentially get messy, to say the least. Don't spread that around, the others don't quite know the extent of it,Kale signs back subtly in Thieves' Cant.
"I've got no idea where it is, but if this place is anything to go by, all we need to do is look for the largest building in the city," Kale says drily. "Any tips for us?" he asks Cicero. "What's the Adamant Asylum look like?"
Once outside, Kale will throw a furball from his bag of tricks once again:
