"I think I could use one of those drinks..." Lia puts in, accepting the drink once it is made for her. Glancing to the others she gives them a raised eyebrow, looking more herself now than for the last couple days. "What sort of creature are we facing here, that old children's books tell you how to deal with them?"
Merric eyed Lia as sipped his own drink. He still did not trust the lass, though Kale's points had been good ones. He'd let another answer the question...the truth was he knew little more than she. But his mother would make sitting a chore for a week if he were churlish, and his father would see that week spent doing the most useless and disgusting chores on top of that. "The truth be, lass, I've been here but little more'n ye. So I canna help ye on that accoun'. You do seem tuh be a bit o' a magnet for the beasties, though..." He trailed off, allowing an opportunity for her to fill in, if she were of a mind.
After, he turned to Cicero, "Have ye considered me question 'bout the 'pothecary, Cicero, me friend?"
"Good thing your cards told us about them then, dear Cicero. Since you know about the rules and the Amber Convention, and it sounded like at some point all the sources of the rules were destroyed... Does it mean there is such a creature around and you know who or what it is?"
Cicero sighs and grabs another tankard, before tkaing a seat at the table with the rest of you. He looks thoughtful for a long moment, then begins to speak...
"In the dark past, in a time when the city thrived underneath the sun, the gods of Elysium watched their chosen people from above. Those who remember say that the tragedy which struck Elysium from the face of creation killed them, though some small memory of them remains imprinted in the bones of the earth. Though very few would admit to the suspicion, some have guessed that the prison may not have been to hold the enemies of the gods as much as the gods themselves. Regardless, they are long gone, and only some faint sense of the prisoners remains." He glances to the group for another long moment.
"There is a place, an old prison if you will... This relic of the Old City was once a holding pen for powerful evils. It fell to the cataclysm, but something nasty lurks there still. I do not know what is there, and do not know if it would aid you or destroy you, but the prison was also the home of the old gods, now dead and gone from this land."
He trailed off, allowing an opportunity for her to fill in, if she were of a mind.
After, he turned to Cicero, "Have ye considered me question 'bout the 'pothecary, Cicero, me friend?"
Lia just shrugs. "Seems any time I went anywhere alone I was set upon almost at once by creatures." She says.
(As far as the pothecary goes, can you quote your message on it? I must have missed it.)
Later, during a break, Merric went to the common room and sat at the bar. "Cicero, me fren, I have a question for ye. I've been known to brew me some potions and salves and was wondrin' if there be any apothecaries or herbalists here'bouts, where I might get me the stuff I needs. Be there any such?"
"I am afraid, dear Cicero, neither of us is familiar with the history of your city and have no idea neither about cataclysm that killed your gods, nor about parts of the city - old or new. So, do I get it right and in old days the city was was on the different plane of existence and had own gods, watching over it? And right in the city those gods had a prison, where they kept some powerful being, guarded by some relic? But than something happen - cataclysm, gods died, the city was ripped from the plane where it was and moved... where? The relic perished, prison burst open but could not leave "the old city" and now either that prisoner is lurking there or something even wors, while gods might become a part of the soil this city is standing upon?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(during the downtime,) Kale takes some time to truly inspect the belongings he purloined from Cecilia's room.
The first and most obvious thing, of course, is the address of the Dancing Spider Inn, as well as her room keys. He's quick to share this information with the group, but as he pours over the less obvious clues and items he saw and found in her room, he finds himself facing a puzzle.
The shard of amber and the small candle which cannot be lit, he gives to Al-Ashari to identify: "I've got no skill at identifying magic items like this. Maybe you can have a turn at it?"
To the rest of the group, he holds up the scroll with the strange script (celestial): "Can anyone here possibly read what this says?"
The herbalist's pouch, he takes a long whiff of, scenting the rosemary, and then pockets it -- it might potentially be able to calm Cecilia if they find her alive, for she most likely won't be in any good mental state, considering the spider she'd likely etched into the wall of her prison in charcoal.
The calling card with the gaunt silhouette, he inspects closely, trying to determine if he can recognize who, or what, the gaunt figure is, or is supposed to represent. (Varied rolls for that here: Arcana, History, or Religion: 9 Investigation or Perception: 32 Insight: 24)

DD, here is the question.
"I am sure the Auction House can find anything you might be looking for." He replies with a nod. "Otherwise let me know what you are needing and I might be able to get it for you in a day or two."
"I am afraid, dear Cicero, neither of us is familiar with the history of your city and have no idea neither about cataclysm that killed your gods, nor about parts of the city - old or new. "Is this right?"
"Seems as right as anyone can guess at." He confirms.
"Not sure we are fit to fight a god or god's prisoner whoever it was. But thank you for the story, I will remember to use the rules should we come across the thing. If saving Cecilia is supposed to help us leave that place, we probably better off doing just that."
When everyone was finally ready to make another attempt of city dwelling, she would join, of course.
"I am sure the Auction House can find anything you might be looking for." He replies with a nod. "Otherwise let me know what you are needing and I might be able to get it for you in a day or two."
Merric shudders at the mention of the Auction House. He hadn't been here for that little escapade but from what he'd heard, it was no place to get some ingredients. "I'm thankin' ye', Cicerco, but I'm thinkin' I'll pass on the Auction House." After breakfast, Merric heads upstairs and jots down the missing ingredients for first Purple Worm and then Wyvern poisons. He had all the base ingredients, he just needed the actual venom of one or the other. Returning to the main room, he looks for the first opportunity to speak with Cicero when no one else is around, then hands him the list. "Here ye be. I'm freely tellin' ye that I may not be havin' the coin fer these, dependin' on how 'spensive such be here. But I would be willin' to trade services fer some o' the cost, if that be an option. I'm preferring the first but I'll be takin' the second. And wouldn't be sayin' no to both, if that be possible. And, people can be a wee squeamish fer this sort o' thing so I'll be thankin' ye to keep this...transaction private. Fer yer troubles therein..." Merric tosses him a gold coin.
Kale says to Merric (during his rather open and public conversation with Cicero) "You might not want to trade bits of your soul for ingredients from the actual auction inside of Fiddler's, but there's an interesting elemental who lives in a well just outside. If you're willing to take a risk and have the coin, he'll grant you a wish. Twisted, of course, in some way, but likely still beneficial. I think the elemental trapped in his well here in Elysium is being warped by the city, just as much a prisoner as we are. So it's a double edged sword, you see. But you might still be able to get something you're looking for."
Kale pockets the candle and the shard of amber, and prepares the himself to leave with the others. "Yes, I think the Dancing Spider Inn is our best immediate course of action. Everything else, we can wait on. Finding Cecilia seems to be a part of our prophecy, after all, so we might as well get that done. We can see about storming a prison that hosts the relic remains of old, dangerous gods afterwards, if we survive."
Before the group sets out, Kale inspires everyone to greater health with a short song describing their current situation fairly well:
"And you may find yourself, Sleeping in a tiny hut, And you may find yourself In another part of the world And you may find yourself Behind the wheel of a large carriage And you may find yourself in a beautiful house With a elderly duchess, And you may ask yourself, well, How did I get here?
Letting the days go by, let the rainstorm hold me down, Letting the days go by, rain keeps falling on the ground Into the blue again, after the curse is gone Once in a lifetime, rain keeps falling on the ground..."
"I am sure the Auction House can find anything you might be looking for." He replies with a nod. "Otherwise let me know what you are needing and I might be able to get it for you in a day or two."

ooc: Merric is ready to get wet again.
"You might want to try trading those gold coins in somewhere for silver." He tells you as he eyes the gold. "I'll take it, but it is only worth what I can get the Vistani to trade me for it." He takes the note though and agrees to try to get some of it for you.
The group gathers for a trip outside again. The rain is falling heavier than ever as you step outside. I am assuming you are looking for the Dancing Spider now. How do you wish to do this?

The scroll lists the rules you gleamed from the mirror and the review of the book.
The candle and amber are not magical.
